About this property

The luxurious holiday home of Edgar House sits in the heart of Chester, Cheshire, atop the ancient Roman Walls overlooking the magnificent River Dee and weir. The property enjoys a central location with many bars, restaurants, cafés, shops, the famous racecourse and Grosvenor Park just a short stroll away, making it the perfect setting for a large family of 16’s self-catering break. Internally, Edgar's exquisite interiors offer a wonderful blend of tradition, bold, contemporary design, and conveniences. It’s a wonderful place for family get-togethers, with a beautifully furnished and contemporary open-plan living space, perfect for entertaining in the evening, thanks to the Smart TV and Bluetooth surround sound, as the designated chef cooks up a storm, utilising a wealth of quality appliances along the way. Take dinner outside to the spectacular garden patio, once described by renowned travel writer Alistair Sawday as “Chester’s equivalent of the Royal Box”; there is plenty of external seating to sit back and savour your favourite drink whilst listening to River Dee flow by. After dinner, why not retreat to the cinema/TV room and enjoy a movie on the large Smart TV, or to the games room, a fabulous space enjoying a Bluetooth jukebox, and a range of entertainments, including darts and table football. Alternatively, you can settle down in the library/snug and curl up with a captivating book. When you’re ready to catch some sleep, there are seven well-presented en-suite bedrooms, spread over two floors, accommodating up to 16 guests. Three of the bedrooms have super-king-size beds and four offer zip/link beds for added flexibility. One of the rooms, the family room, has its own private lounge area with a double sofa bed – as well as a freestanding copper bath; ideal for those seeking a little bit of privacy away from the larger group! Chester has been dubbed "the jewel of the North-West of England," and one of the most fascinating aspects of the city is that it contains remnants of every period of history, from Roman walls and amphitheatres to medieval churches, Elizabethan and Georgian architecture, to Victorian restorations and 21st-century buildings. The city has a lot to offer visitors, such as superb shopping in and around the renowned Tudor 'Rows' and delightful strolls along the historic, Roman Walls, alongside the River Dee, and through the beautiful Grosvenor Park. Tour Chester Racecourse, spend the day at the world-famous Chester Zoo or wander around the breath-taking cathedral. The spectacular Welsh highlands, including the Cader Idris and Eryri (Snowdonia) ranges, the seashore, the picturesque market towns and villages of Cheshire, and the Wirral Peninsula with its world-class golf courses are all within easy reach. For a truly spectacular getaway for all the family, in a marvellous location with riverside views, choose Edgar House.

Location is great 5 min walk to the centre of Chester and lots to watch on the river.

Everything you could need was catered for, from toiletries, detergent, to condiments in the kitchen. Loved the decor and the huge blackout curtains in the bedrooms meant we weren't woken early by the light (something which I often find an issue when staying in other properties). The pictures on the website don't do the size of the property/rooms justice. It's huge! Couldn't ask for a better location with views of the river and a 5 minute walk into the city centre.
