About this property

The Peak District National Park and the beautiful Dovedale Valley are on the doorstep of this charming late-Victorian holiday cottage in Ashbourne. Aldergrove Cottage is half a mile from the centre of this historic market town, putting everything you need for a self-catering stay within a ten-minute walk. It's fantastic for walkers and cyclists who can access the Tissington Trail and Manifold Way, among other popular routes, and convenient for Chatsworth House, Alton Towers, Buxton, Bakewell, and Matlock Bath. Aldergrove Cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms and suits couples, families and friends.

Aldergrove Cottage is the result of a decade-long dream. The late Victorian holiday cottage, possibly built for railway workers in the 1890s, is in the Peak District town of Ashbourne, half a mile from the town centre with its shops, tea rooms, and friendly pubs, and close to the national park. This area is perfect for walking and cycling holidays, but it's also ideal for sightseeing as it's within easy reach of fantastic sights and attractions. Sleeping four people in two bedrooms, Aldergrove Cottage is an excellent choice for couples, families and friends.

You'll find everything you need for your self-catering holiday in Ashbourne. The importance of the town's history as an economic hub is evident in its pretty Georgian and Victorian shopfronts, and there's a regular weekly market every Thursday on Shrovetide Walk. Remarkably for a town of this size, Ashbourne has more than 200 Grade I or Grade II listed buildings and monuments, which you can see along the self-guided Heritage Trail. Being so close to both the Peak District National Park and the scenic Dovedale Valley makes Ashbourne a firm favourite with walkers. There are miles of footpaths to explore - leading up hills, beside rivers and streams, through woodland and over moors. Don't miss the photo opportunities at the Dovedale Stepping Stones river crossing in Ilam Park. The traffic-free Tissington Trail goes between Ashbourne and Parsley Hay and can be used by walkers and cyclists. Other options include the High Peaks Trail, Manifold Way, and Monsal Trail.

Alton Towers is only eight miles away and is always a great choice for a fun-filled day out. Other day trips can include visiting the potteries at Stoke, wandering around Chatsworth House and gardens, shopping in Bakewell's busy Monday market, and learning about the heroic actions of the residents of Eyam during the plague of 1665. There are National Trust properties, showcaves and mines, and dozens of pretty towns and villages like Buxton and Matlock, to explore.

Aldergrove Cottage is a welcoming home-away-from-home. The owners - themselves long-time visitors of this area - chose it for its location and have worked hard to ensure it's somewhere visitors can feel comfortable at any time of the year.
