What our customers say about their holidays

We booked a long weekend for a group of 6 female friends to spend some quality time together.

Great social space with the kitchen, lounge and dining room all in one space. Great location in beautiful Bradley. The building (particularly the bedrooms) were unique and quirky. The hot tub was great, hot, bubbly and Inviting. However, it was at the far side of the garden with no footpath or lighting. It was completely pitch black. There was a torch in a cupboard but it didn’t work. There did seem to be outside lights but none worked or we couldn’t find a switch. The general cleanliness was a bit below par. All of the utensils and pans could have done with a good clean. I scrubbed at least two pans clean and the utensils before using them. The carpet/flooring was very dirty. I had white socks on and they were filthy. I can supply a photo. On the first night as we sat down to eat. The glass in the oven exploded. I messaged the numbers supplied on our confirmation email and someone got back to me straight away. They came the next morning at 8am and replaced the oven - we couldn’t ask for better maintenance service and we were extremely grateful for the swift resolution to the problem. Excellent. Thank you. Unfortunately, we decided to leave a day early as those sleeping in the 4 singles in the back room had really bad nights sleep and bad backs from the beds/mattresses and we couldn’t bare another night in them. They really do need replacing. The sofas in the lounge were also very slouchy and uncomfortable. We spent most of the time sat at the dining table as the sofas were so uncomfortable. For us we wanted some comfort and relaxation. If the beds and sofas were replaced. We’d be back there in an instant and would book for next year. Overall a really great location and social space and with some easily resolvable tweaks as mentioned above it would be excellent. Thanks for letting us stay.

      We loved our stay.

Perfect for a big family break. All rooms lovely with amazing views. House very clean. House well equipped with everything we needed. (Could do with a 2nd toaster as the one there takes forever and with so many people for breakfast it took a while) but everything else so well equipped for large numbers. 2 dishwashers really handy. All rooms nicely spaced apart so didn’t feel on top of each other during stay. Massive dining table to seat everyone. Loved that there were a couple of different lounges/cosy areas so guests can spread out and not be all stuck in one space. Outdoor area beautiful- most amazing views. Sooo nice to have that view to wake up to. Little lambs right there and bunnies hopping around. Outdoors would benefit from a comfier sofa/rattan type set or loungers for sunny days/more seating if everyone wanted to sit outside at table. Also an outdoor light nearer the house/table would be great for sitting out. 2 Hot tubs and sauna fab. Beautiful setting. Owners were helpful and easy to contact with couple of queries we had re cleaning and someone came out to check/clean one of them out that seemed to not be quite right. We had a couple of children with us who absolutely loved their stay and all the space in the garden (small children need close supervision as house very close to the road - no issue but garden gates are like metal farm gates so small children could easily get through them onto road) Ashbourne only a 10 min drive away for cafes shops etc and lots of nice walks on your doorstep. We absolutely loved our stay so much and wouldn’t hesitate to return/recommend to those looking for a special break.

This is a fantastic house in a wonderful position.

We did, however, have major issues with the electrics on the site. When we arrived the house was warm, but after that the heating went off and we had to resort to sweaters etc. The instructions sent out by the owners stated that “the heating is controlled via an outside app …. Do let us know if you would prefer it warmer or cooler.” We messaged Laura Holden at 18.01 on Saturday to ask for some heat, and she replied at 21.24 telling us that the reference to an outside app was copied from another property. Laura then told us where the thermostats were in the house; one of them would not work because the knob was worn. Guests staying in the cottage and on the third floor of the main house were cold. A further disappointment was the hot tubs. We decided to use them on Saturday evening, but found that there was no power in the areas of the sauna and hot tubs. On investigation we found an outside consumer unit with an RCD that had operated. The cause appeared to be a fault on the hot tub nearer the sauna, so we had to leave that disconnected in order to restore the outside power. We.messaged Laura and she promised to contact a local electrician; she did this and he came on Sunday around 1 pm when we were out walking. These issues with the heating and the hot tubs were most unsatisfactory: we were only there for the weekend and we manifestly did not get full value. OTHER ISSUES: kitchen well equipped but needs some small sharp knives, one or more decent sized cafetières, water jugs, and plugs for the sink. The “Welcome Guide” needs careful revision: what it says about the heating and the Wi-Fi is inaccurate.

We were blown away with the character of the property.

It was stunning. We unfortunately had a little trouble with the hot tub on the Friday evening where we had to contact the owner. Although we were disappointed we could not use it that evening, someone was out for 8am the next day and got it fixed for us to use after our walk on Saturday afternoon which we were really happy with. Really quick service and very apologetic. The only feedback I would have is the lack of everyday essentials. Things like cling film, foil, salt and pepper etc that you don’t really want to be buying just for a couple of nights. We did also run out of toilet paper as I think we only had one additional roll between two bathrooms. The recycling bin was also full to the brim when we arrived. So we unfortunately just had to stack our boxes/glasses and cans next to it. However, these were just minor things that did not negatively impact our stay, just would have made things a little easier and convenient. On a whole we had an amazing time and the property was the perfect getaway. I would also like to let you know about the private chef we hired for the Saturday evening. This was David from The Dinner Party Company and he was amazing. The pre-event communication, food, and service was amazing and such good value for money. A nice little addition to top off a really relaxing stay and happy to share his details if it’s something you’d like to promote to guests. Thank you for a great service and stay! Kind regards Hannah and guests
