This is quintessential British beauty, with the Church of St James overlooking the pretty cottages set in its narrow streets.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Teall - Verified booking

The site manager responded very quickly to our request for a shower stool. She definitely put her customers first which is what I call top notch service. Thank you Karen. This cottage has been well designed and is very comfortable. It is well equipped and the Wi-Fi speed is very good. So long as you position your seat correctly, there is a lovely countryside view across the valley with both livestock (sheep and cows) and wildlife (rabbits, hares and many different birds) to keep you entertained. We did that a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the other direction there is a factory building in the yard you drive through to reach the cottage, three wind turbines and a row of pylons and cables. The factory building was quite noisy with constantly running machinery during working hours. As it was quite cold for our visit this was not a problem as you cannot hear it inside the cottage at all, but I suspect it would detract from sitting outside in better weather. The downstairs bedroom has the most storage space and a much larger shower room which is very good indeed. It has a king-size bed. The upstairs (only half-a floor up really) has a super king-size bed but a much smaller shower room and no wardrobe - just a row of pegs with hangers. Both bedrooms have a good amount of drawer space. As we rented the cottage as a couple (just two of us) we slept in the upper bedroom to have the advantage of a cosier room with a bigger bed, but kept our clothes in the downstairs one and used the downstairs shower room. It is a shame they did not put a super-king downstairs as well as there is plenty of room, but using the two rooms in the way that we did worked well and we were very happy with the arrangement. As usual, there were a couple of quirky aspects to the design like the hand-woven carpet in the downstairs bedroom which was extremely rough to walk on in bare feet and, because there was such a huge amount of cooking equipment, there was not actually any cupboard space to store food - just one empty drawer. We enjoyed our stay in Griffedale and we would recommend it to those of our friends who we know, like us, would enjoy the views on its good side. For the future, the addition of a charging point for electric cars would be much appreciated and, within a few more years, will become essential.

Really beautiful bungalow set in glorious countryside. Extremely clean and well looked after. Would of given top marks for equipment except for the shower floor. The shower itself is brilliant but the wet floor idea is very poor! The water just doesn't drain away and consequently the whole bathroom floods to literally 1 inch deep. The water even reached under the washing machine! It then takes an age to drain away and it is then impossible for someone else to use the toilet or have a shave. Recommend that the outflow is improved, a proper shower tray installed and a proper side and door installed. 9.5 out of 10 for the rest of the bungalow. I've clicked on no for recommendation purely because of the shower.

Cottage is in a beautiful location with gorgeous views . It was spoilt by the lack of attention to cleaning including dirty door mat and kitchen windows, sticky kitchen floor, dusty ornaments and stained duvet on the double bed . There are also maintenance issues that require attention which we have reported including windows that are very hard to open and shut . We did speak to the holiday letting company on arrival and they offered to send cleaners to deep clean … I had already cleaned and suggested that they make sure it was all rectified before the next people arrived. With a bit of attention this could be a great place stay .

No Fire Place utensils, windows dirty, (I have images) … windows wouldn’t open - On entry to the property one of our party slipped over luckily no damage - the path / stairs upto the property were covered in slippery moss so I had to clean the pathway given it was lethal … inside the cottage was a warning so disappointingly they knew … if the people who I believe live in London knew about this stuff they would hopefully sort these issues out or stop taking money of people for properties not fit for renting … I will be taking this further and a bill for compensation will be coming to yourselves Totally unacceptable

    • Mrs Aris - Verified booking

We really enjoyed our stay. It is a very comfortable cottage in a great location for exploring the southern Peak District. All 3 bedrooms were equally impressive and each with a great bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and the outside space was lovely for sitting out and for the dog to explore. A hosepipe for the outside tap would be the icing on the cake as our dog had a great time but was constantly muddy! Also please can you resolve check out time as the cleaner turned up at 9:30 when we were told 10:00am check out. However, this is a great property to stay in.
