This detached cottage is located in the Derbyshire village of Alstonefield. Ideal for a couple looking to explore the wonders of the Peak District, this property is a great base to return to and kick off your boots after a wonderful day of hiking. Be welcomed into the lovely open-plan living space, decorated with light colours to enhance the natural light from the windows coming through. Take a seat around the dining table with a glass of wine while your partner cooks up something special in the kitchen just for you, and afterwards you can cosy up on the sofas in front of the TV for those quiet evenings in. Step down into the hall and through to the bedroom, which holds a super-king-size which can be divided in to twin beds for flexible sleeping arrangements; in the morning, throw the curtains on the floor to ceiling windows open and let the sunshine get you ready for the day ahead. After a shower in the neat bathroom, you can head out to the patio area at the front of the cottage to sit and eat breakfast, and later on in the day come back from your walk to relax. Alstonefield is pretty village in the Peak District, with rolling countryside between spectacular valleys, and is home to two local pubs, the Watts Russell Arms being a short walk away, while local shops are around a 20-minute drive away. You can find a wider selection of activities just a bit further out, like the iconic Heights of Abraham, famous for its landmark cable car which provides an incredible journey across the Derwent Valley for those brave enough. Head up to Buxton for a more unusual adventure at Stoop Farm, where you can take an Alpaca for a walk and afterwards enjoy tea and cake back at the farmhouse. There are countless things to do in the Peak District, but make sure one of them is staying at The Old Cow Shed for a relaxing break with your loved one.
Alstonefield lies on the borders of Derbyshire and Staffordshire between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold rivers and has won the ‘Best Kept Village Award’ ten times, (most recently in 2005), and was in the final for the ‘National Village of the Year’ in 1998, which is a remarkable achievement for such a small place. There is a pub set on the village green, and the surrounding area is perfect for walkers and cyclists. Slightly further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.

A nice welcome hamper. I would certainly rebook this cottage if we come back to the Peak District again.
