Lion Cottage in Birchover, Derbyshire, is highly praised for its beauty, comfort, and well-equipped nature, making it a home away from home. Guests appreciate the welcoming hosts and the cottage's central location for exploring the Dales. The two local pubs add to the charm, though guests should be mindful of the intermittent opening times and lack of village shops.
The cottage is generally regarded as very clean. One mention of dishes and oven trays needing a wash before use slightly impacts the score, but this appears to be an isolated incident.
The location is excellent, with easy access to local walks, villages, towns, and attractions like Haddon Hall and Chatsworth. The presence of two pubs nearby is frequently mentioned positively.
Guests find the cottage to be warm, cosy, and comfortable, contributing to a restful sleep and an enjoyable stay.
The cottage is consistently described as well-equipped, with a kitchen that is great to work in. No significant issues with facilities and maintenance are reported.
While guests express appreciation for the attention to detail and the provision of necessities, there are no specific mentions of gifts, so it is not possible to assess thoughtfulness in this context.
A beautiful example of a Derbyshire stone cottage, filled with character and charm and nestled next to a 17th-century pub in a peaceful hamlet. You are spoilt for choice for walks and places to eat, with the pub next door and another great pub at the end of the road, both serving splendid local ales and good food. Winster, just over 2 miles away, has a great local shop for your kitchen essentials and fabulous local produce. Sitting perfectly between Bakewell (5.4 miles) and Matlock (7.7 miles), you get to experience some of the best locations in the Peak District, with Bakewell famous for its pudding and tarts, and Matlock and Matlock Bath offerings Abraham Heights, Caves and Caverns and local independent shops. Chatsworth House and Gardens is just over 7 miles away, along with a parkland, a farm, and it also hosts various events throughout the year.
The house itself if full of original features and character, including beamed ceilings, stone fireplaces and exposed stone walls.

Mrs Oldbury
Beautiful cottage with a lovely homely feel. Well equipped with everything you need. Situated in a gorgeous location where everyone is so friendly. Visited both pubs and would highly recommend both. Communication from owners was excellent. Myself and my partner look forward to staying again.

We really loved this cottage and did not want to leave. We slept really well. It was warm and cosy. It had everything you needed and was in a central location to explore the surrounding Dales. It was lovely and clean, the kitchen was great to work in. We had a great week and highly recommend it.
