What our customers say about their holidays

    • N - Verified booking

My dog, Millie and I had such a lovely peaceful stay!

I booked this last minute and it was very quick and easy. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and I had a query before booking which was answered in no time at all. The garden was secure and a great size so my dog really enjoyed it! My dog is nervous and there is a free roaming sheep dog but we only saw her/him once and we were able to close the gate to the garden so this really wasn’t an issue. There are chickens in view too but again, these were fenced away so Millie soon got bored of trying. We had some lovely winter walks around the local area and had relaxing evenings at the cottage watching TV and reading. The only issue was a dripping/tapping noise on the last night when it was raining so I barely got any sleep! Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I would recommend for those who are wanting a basic but comforting and cosy stay.

Super little cottage in a great location.

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, A good sized bathroom with a lovely powerful shower. Plus, a super comfy bed. It was also good to be able to park right outside the property. Although, it's compact there is plenty of storage space upstairs. It was also spotlessly clean on arrival. It's situated in a great location to be able to enjoy all the wonderful industrial history (Unesco World Heritage Site which is right on the doorstep. However, if you choose, you can walk in the other direction for fantastic countryside walks with stunning scenery and views. Cromford station is only 15 mins walk away for trains to Derby and Nottingham. Or for simply travelling a few stops along the tracks and then walking back to the cottage along the Cromford Canal. All in all a great stay! We would definitely consider a return visit.

A great little cottage with absolutely everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay .

The cottage is beautifully decorated with quality fixtures and fittings, especially the Pete McKee print. The log burner is a must on a cold evening, although be warned the cost of logs was extortionate in the village, definitely take your own. A beautiful welcome pack greeted us and helpful advice from Chris regarding directions and how everything works was welcome . The heating was popped on for when we arrived too. Some beautiful walks by the canal, busy on a weekend though and The Greyhound and The Boat Inn were warm and welcoming. Can highly recommend the Cheese Shop at Cromford Mills and a walk to Matlock and Matlock Bath . Thank you to Chris and Jon for sharing their beautiful cottage. Jenny

Stable Cottage was a lovely base for our holiday.

It’s bijou & charming & set in a lovely spot. There were a couple of downers; we arrived when the weather was extremely cold & it took a long time for the cottage to heat up. We would have appreciated it if the heating was already on. It was only 11 degrees according to the Hive thermostat, maybe the owners could have checked the Hive settings & got the heat going? My other comment is that the soft furnishings look a bit grubby, I suggest it might be time to refresh cushions & throws. Neither of the above spoiled our holiday, the bed is comfortable & I liked having the choice of bath or shower. The cottage is very well equipped overall & the log burner was easy to use.

What a lovely little cottage in such a great village.

The cottage had everything you would need, and more and was extremely clean and comfortable. Chris the owner was very attentive, ensuring our stay was perfect. The village had lots to offer, with dog walks from the front door. The neighbours and villagers were very welcoming, providing knowledge of the area and good dog walks. We were very lucky with the weather which allowed us to walk everywhere, only using the car for shopping and the occasional visit further afield. The Boat pub provided fantastic meals at a very reasonable price and of course plenty to quench the thirst. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time and will definitely return in the future.
