What our customers say about their holidays

We've just spent a wonderful week at Overton between Christmas and New Year 2024.

We've had such a lovely stay in this beautiful property. All the beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, and even included a steamer and plenty of baking trays, pans and oven dishes. There was plenty of cupboard storage space and ample seating in the lounge. Although the property sleeps 8, there were only 6 dining chairs. However, as we are very local to the property, we were able to easily pop home for a couple of extra, foldable chairs, so we could have a family meal. It might be helpful to supply a couple of extra foldable chairs for guests to use in future. There was a folder in the house with manuals on a number of items, however they didn't include some key items. It would be helpful to have an info book for guests, to include things like: WiFi code. Some general instructions on how to navigate the TV to get terrestrial channels such as BBC and ITV - it took us a while to figure it out. Also how to use the hob as not everyone has a modern hob. Once we worked it out it was great. Also we struggled a little how to use the oven and particularly how to turn it off, which we discovered by chance. We managed fine in the end but thought this feedback might be helpful for the owner. We had such a fantastic stay and were very comfortable in this beautifully finished property. The bathroom and en suite were beautifully finished and the showers were amazing. The little touches like tea, coffee, a bottle of wine, salt pepper, the coffee machine, towels in all the rooms and really snuggly bedding made it a real home from home for us all. We will certainly be coming back to Overton next year. Thank you so much to the owners for providing everything to make our stay so perfect.

Another wonderful stay in the bungalow.

I don’t know whether to mention this but it is a wonderful writer’s retreat. The view must be one of the best in Derbyshire - rolling hills and alpacas grazing (and for the foreseeable future, no through road). There needs to be a desk/ dressing table in the bay window main bedroom to write from and look out, but I worry if this happens, other writers will book the place up! Much time was spent writing on the decking area table at the front. It faces West so the sunsets can be amazing. We walked down to the nice Tickled Trout (half a mile) and stayed put most the time. I reversed the car up the steep drive and once it was wedged in was pleased not to have to do that again! Apparently most people park at the bottom of the drive, but I preferred a car-free view. One slight annoyance was I think the previous vacationers may have had a joint but we opened the windows and then it was fine and no reflection on the bungalow. We worked out the reclining sofas had phone chargers in which was handy on a rainy evening watching Netflix movies. The garden behind was lovely to lie in - our picnic rug got well used. The only noise were owls, clip-clopping of horses and occasionally tractors in the fields. Bliss. Hope to come here for a third time if it doesn’t get too booked up. It is a very special place.

This is a beautiful house in a nice quiet peaceful area.

The house is tastefully decorated throughout. The conservatory was lovely to sit in and eat or just relax. The bath is a good size and great to soak in. The bed we used was comfortable and we slept well. The kitchen was a good size and well laid out. It was a pleasure to cook there. We enjoyed spending time in the garden and it is very dog friendly and private. The owner was very responsive and welcoming and left a welcome pack which was very welcome indeed. Nearby are two playgrounds, a park, playing field and canal. The local shop is just across the road. Two pubs within easy reach. The No 90 bus takes you straight to a big Tesco and a big Sainsbury and the bus stop is only a short walk down the road. There is a regular bus service running from the main road so it is easy to get into Brimmington or Chesterfield. The Owner left plenty of leaflets about things to do if you come with a car. There is a garage for off-road parking. We had a lovely time here and liked it so much we didn't want to leave and booked an extra week so stayed 3 weeks instead of 2. It was relaxing and just what we needed. Would highly recommend.

Our third time at the bungalow.

We love staying here. You cannot beat the peace and quiet and the views are out of this world. The bungalow is clean and bright, modern and spacious. Owners are really pleasant. Milk and cakes were very much appreciated on our arrival. The only thing is that our car does not like being parked on the steep driveway and the oil light always comes on, however, you can park at the bottom of the drive on the roadway. No traffic comes past as you are the last property on a no through lane, so its not a problem. Plenty of walks around and good dog friendly pubs, especially the peacock ( chef and brewer)on owler bar roundabout ( not in Barlow) also the shoulder of mutton in Chapel en le Frith. People are very welcoming in the area. After staying for the third time, it feels like home and we wish it was! The owners are so lucky to have such a lovely bungalow, you really could not design a better place to stay.

Had a lovely stay at the bungalow.

.excellent position. It doesn't look much from the outside but inside it has been renovated to a good standard and has a really nice feel with all you need, with a brilliant outlook over the fields. It was clean and welcoming with all the facilities you need.Only small gripes for us were the thermostats on radiators a bit hit and miss and the matress wasn't supportive enough for us but this is a personal preference. The gardens could do with some maintenance but still nice to relax in,especially as it's a little suntrap at the back of the property. We have stayed at a few cottages, and they are expensive, but if you like a home from home with a good location then you get your monies worth. All in all we would recommend and with a few tweeks here and there would be even better.
