What our customers say about their holidays

    • Matthew - Verified booking

Cottage was very nice and clean.

The only reason we booked though was for the hot tub, which was massively disappointing. Was told it was checked and maintained daily on arrival but on the second day in it there was a lot of brown scum and black hairs floating to the top when the bubbles were turned on, nobody in our family has black hair and we certainly aren't unclean and had showered beforehand. On the 3rd day my wife had planned her day around relaxing in the hot tub but when she went to use it and opened the lid it hadn't been cleaned, the water was green and it smelt terribly (like cabbage) and so was totally unusable. She knocked on the door of the owners but there was nobody in so she called the mobile number supplied to us and there was no answer, so she left a voicemail message. The call wasn't returned so she sent a text to the same number letting them know of the issue but there was no reply at all from the owners so she went out for the day instead. The next morning was check-out. I had a look at the hot tub and it was still in the same condition as the previous day. When handing the key over to the owner, she said that her husband had replied to the text saying that we could use their own hot tub. Neither my wife or I received this text message nor a phone call back regarding this. It wouldn't have been an option anyway due to the lack of privacy. She said that the hot tub should be self cleaning and asked if we had showered before using it or had creams on us that could have caused the issue. It was October so we definitely haven't used any sun creams, plus we have used hot tubs many times and have never experienced this issue before so it was definitely not down to us. Unfortunately, this issue ruined the stay so we wouldn't return. Regards Matthew Mitchell

Lovely cottage and will get the 2 complaints out the way first.

.. it was booked for a birthday celebration and chosen due to it having a hot tub. My daughters were very excited! Unfortunately the hot tub wasn’t available on the first night as they had changed the water from the last visitors and said it would still be cold. I understand that during COVID-19 extra precautions are needed but perhaps they should leave a day between each booking so the hot tub is available? They did kindly offer to let us use their hot tub which is located outside their house but it didn’t feel private and we felt awkward about using it. The second issue was the duvets on the beds. They are made of plastic and presumably there Incase visitors wet the bed. They are incredibly hot and slide down to the end of the covers in a big lump! We all slept badly on night 1 and in the morning I removed them from the covers and we slept just with sheets over us on night 2. Had I known, I would’ve brought our own duvets and would do so if we returned. Other than that we had an enjoyable stay. It has a lovely courtyard style garden which makes for a very relaxing area on a nice weather day. The little summer house is also cute and a nice addition. We ate our evening meal here. The cottage is well equipped and cosy. The host is lovely and very welcoming x

      Perfect little getaway!

Beautiful location, clean home and great facilities. We booked this place as a last resort due to being let down with the previous property, but we were not disappointed with the outcome. Ardsley Cottage turned out to be a much better option. The kitchen has all the things you would need (a few more cleaning supplies would be handy), with a dining room attached where you can sit round a lovely big table to enjoy a meal together. Moving into the spacious living room, you find big comfy sofas to sit and relax in, along with a smart TV. Upstairs there were 3 bedrooms set up with bath and hand towels for each guest and 3 laundry bags to pack away bedding at check out. The large bathroom was great for showers or baths (bathroom lock wasn't working). Finally leaving the best till last ... the GARDEN. Incredible scenery surrounding the house with the added bonus of the hot tub (with British weather, it could do with a gazebo of sorts to provide shelter from strong winds or rain). Highly recommend this property!!

We (family of 4 with 5 and 7 year olds) had a lovely stay at South Lodge Cottage.

Communication with the hosts before and during the stay was excellent, and the homemade cake on arrival was delicious (although we didn't manage to finish it all!!). The cottage itself was very clean and was actually more spacious than we thought it would be. It was very well equipped with everything we needed for a three night stay. Smart TV was useful for catching up with Netflix with a glass of wine once the kids were in bed! Good central heating system which kept us nice and cosy, as well as on demand hot water. Great location too. We visted Dovedale, Derby, Sudbury Hall as well as going slightly further out towards Castleton. Unfortunately, we visited during Storm Dennis, so we couldn't make the most of the beautiful garden although our boys still had a run around out there and looked for fish in the pond. I imagine it would be fantastic on a warm summers day. I would highly recommend this cottage! Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed at this lovely cottage for one week, once we looked at why it was originally built it made more sence.

Only small issues could be fixed, updated. I would have got rid of mismatching cutlery, add an extra dinner sets. Small details in the grand scheme of things. The good things are everything else, space inside and out. location, hosts helped out when needed and full of knowledge, Nikkie couldn't do enough and filled o Internet gap while they were changing suppliers. The surroundings amazing, out in the countryside, Less than an hour from larger towns, even closer to local shops. I would without a doubt return to Bramble cottage, it's far enough away for peice and quiet, (apart from road noise when outside). The hot tub is big enough for 4, lovely quiet summer house, comfortable seatng inside, bed rooms not to big, but big enough for purpose, which is for 4 people. So, here is where I can say a big thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage, good luck for the future and hopefully, fingers crossed we would love to return.
