We arrived in the pitch black and it was a scary drive to the house (tiny roads) but so worth it.

The first thing we found was biscuits, tea, coffee, milk and what a GODSEND that was! Thank you!! I was never so happy until I saw them. The house is beautiful and clean with four poster beds, jacuzzi for about 6, lovely conservatory, dining room with real fire, sitting room with fake fire (which sadly didn’t work when we were there) and well-equipped farm kitchen. Linens and towels and some soaps and toilet rolls provided. Only one bedroom has en-suite with bath but there were 3 other shared bathrooms and the one I used had the best shower ever - so powerful. All the beds were comfy (everyone said so!) with fresh linen sheets and very plumped up pillows. More than enough for everyone. We had to use some initiative to work out the central heating as no instructions. Basically, the thermostat is upstairs, left down the long corridor and next to the furthest upstairs bedroom. Once that was spotted, we were toasty and warm. The electric fire needed instructions - using iPhones to photograph the back of the fire told us it was a Dimplex Oakhurst so we looked up instructions on the internet but as the lights didn’t work, we contacted The caretaker who suggested we didn’t use it. We didn’t miss it though and preferred the real fire anyway which was well stocked with wood and fire lighters. The S’mores we cooked by the fire with the children were delicious. The Wi-Fi and instructions were clear and good info in a sheet about rubbish and toilets. The Jacuzzi was amazing! So hot when I first got in and easily took 5 of us. Again, some instructions on use would be helpful but we worked it out (ish) with experimentation. The view from the tub is AMAZING - right over the valley to the hills opposite - we felt like kings. One touch the house owners might like to add to make it perfect would be some fairy lights on the patio and leading to the jacuzzi for evening sessions with just adults. It was a lovely stay and we really enjoyed it. A few niggles but excellent on the whole.

      Amazing house and neighbourhood!

We were greeted with a warm, cozy house upon arrival with some lovely treats, waiting on the table. Outside, there's a beautiful old bridge with a gushing river passing through it and its just to the side of the property. On the opposite side, a pathway leads towards the river bank itself, where you can see ducks, trout and catch glimpses of Heron! My girls loved feeding them all!! Coop is just around the corner and eateries/ shops literally at your doorstop. Its centrally based and an easy walking and driving distance to places like Chatsworth, Bakewell and Matlock. The house is very cosy, immaculately clean and beds very comfortable, the hot tub is an extra bonus. The kitchen is well equipped and the conservatory is perfect for a morning cuppa! The owner came over to help with lighting a log fire and was very courteous, kind and accessible at all times. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Toll cottage and would love to come back again.

We had a lovely time thank you!

A few minor things cd be improved - the conservatory doors don’t lock altho I appreciate that the location is remote, this needs fixing. Oven gloves and more cleaning clothes would have been helpful and there is a relative lack of glassware for the size of property. The cold tap in the first four poster room sink also not working. A booklet with some info on the property/appliances/local amenities and walks would also be helpful. We had a problem the first night with the landing light switches which are on a timer not turning off so had to remove bulbs until the electrics were reset the next day. All minor issues which didn’t spoil our week - the property is spacious, the jacuzzi has panoramic views after long local walks straight from the front door and the electric car chargers were great. Would love to stay again as the local area is beautiful and pubs/shops in Youlgreave kept us well supplied.

A perfect house for a large gathering!

We stayed here for a family holiday and it had everything we needed. There was lots of space for all 18 of us in the bedrooms and reception rooms; with a welcoming kitchen, living room and conservatory. Plenty of room for the younger children to play and give the teenagers some separate space too. The kitchen was very well equipped and the welcome basket, board games and books were a nice addition. The house was very clean, warm and well-kept which I'm sure isn't easy with such an old farmhouse! The hot tub was a huge hit with everyone and the views were amazing! Lots of outdoor space for football and our Easter egg hunt! We had an issue with the filter on the hot tub and the maintenance team came out very quickly and resolved it; Vicky was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend this holiday house!

After a wonderful week at the Farmhouse…the location was fantastic, suitable for our large family, comfortable, clean and with views to die for.

Just a couple of things…. There were water problems upstairs…no cold water came out of upstairs taps or loos while the bath was being run. The grass around the property was very long, making games of football difficult. Dave did come and mow but stopped when the wheels fell off the mower. Dave was helpful with other things when we contacted him. I did feel irritated when emailed by Sykes Cottages while we were in the Farmhouse, offering the property at almost £5000 less just two weeks after our stay….it made me question whether we had been overcharged for the week we had booked. Despite this, our family of twelve adults and six children had a very happy holiday, in an outstanding location and in a very comfortable and well-equipped farmhouse.
