Curlew Cottage in Derbyshire is highly praised for its cosy charm, ideal location for exploring the Dales and Peaks, and welcoming hosts. Guests consistently mention the cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped nature of the property, along with the proximity to good pubs and walking trails. While internet connectivity issues were noted, this was seen as a minor point in otherwise glowing reviews.
Guests consistently commend the cottage for its cleanliness, describing it as 'very clean', 'well maintained', and 'exceptionally clean'. The high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to the positive experience of the guests.
The location is frequently highlighted as ideal for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and High Peaks, with easy access to walking trails and local attractions. Proximity to good pubs and eateries is also appreciated, enhancing the property's appeal.
Comfort is a standout feature, with guests finding the cottage 'snug and cosy', 'comfortable', and 'spacious'. The presence of a log burner and a comfy bed are often mentioned, suggesting a high level of satisfaction with the comfort provided.
Facilities are generally praised, with the cottage being described as 'well equipped' and having 'everything needed'. However, one review mentioned the absence of a dishwasher despite it being listed, which suggests a slight discrepancy in the facilities' description.
The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident through mentions of a warm welcome and welcome gifts. While these gestures are greatly appreciated by guests, it is noted that such personal touches, although delightful, may vary with each stay.
A super little cottage recently credited with a VisitEngland Gold Award and lovingly created out of a mellow stone barn nestling under the dramatic Hucklow Edge.
If you’re looking for a luxurious little cottage in the heart of the Peak District, then Curlew is the perfect place for you. Set under Hucklow Edge, the owner’s attention to detail ripples throughout the property and this is reflected by the recent VisitEngland Gold Award the cottage has received. The well decorated lounge is spacious yet cosy with a glowing wood-burning stove and ceiling beams. Set in the sleepy hamlet of Windmill, Curlew is a wonderful location to be the base for exploring the local areas, such as Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Buxton.
Explore the nearby lanes and villages, such as Eyam which became famous after the Black Death of 1665 and 1666. Once you’ve returned from your day out, settle down for the evening by the fire with a glass of wine, or continue soaking up the surroundings and head a local village pub. When it’s time for bed, the comfortable bedroom will allow you to sleep well and become refreshed to do it all again the next day. The perfect little getaway.

The cottage is perfect for a getaway in this part of the Peak District for a couple who want a cosy, comfortable base for walking or visiting attractions in the area. It has everything you need for a few days away, including a very comfortable bed and well equipped kitchen. Lots of suggestions for where to eat and suitable walks are a great help to planning your holiday and the owners are also very happy to offer help and advice about the local area.

Comfortable cottage with helpful owners set in a beautiful part of Derbyshire.
Mrs Malthouse
If you want a small cottage for 2 max nowhere in particular surrounded by the Derbyshire Dales, this is the cottage for you. We had horrid weather (it was December!) but still had to walk out with the dog. Cottage was comfortable but has electric storage heaters with a wood burner for chilly evenings. This might not suit everyone.
