About this property

Winster 1.5 miles. A charming semi-detached barn conversion, situated on the owner's working sheep and cattle farm close to the village of Winster, 6 miles from Matlock. Skilfully converted, Aunt Jane's is a real delight, combining modern facilities with many old features such as beautiful old cruck beams, to provide a holiday home of real character and style. With panoramic views of the rolling countryside and a spacious patio area, ideal for dining alfresco and enjoying the setting sun, this is an ideal retreat for getting away from it all and enjoying a welcome break in the country. The historic village of Winster is a delight to discover, with its 17th and 18th century buildings and small selection of shops and traditional pubs, whilst the towns of Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne are all within easy reach. Ideal for a small family or a romantic break, this lovely retreat provides an excellent base for touring and exploring the Peak District National Park and visiting nearby Haddon Hall and Alton Towers. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 2210, together they sleep 10.

Situated within the Peak District National Park is the conservation village of Winster - an extremely pretty place with a charming 17th Century market house at its centre. With a variety of other imposing 18th Century houses within the settlement - nearly all of which are three-storeys high - this is an incredibly elegant town. Just off this stylish main street, however, are a number of endearing little alleyways known locally as 'ginnels', which provide the village with a very charming atmosphere. Most famous for its Morris dancers, June Wakes festivities and its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, this is a fascinating place to visit to enjoy a number of past traditions. There is a well-stocked grocers within the village as well as a post office and gift shop and two good pubs which serve food and local beers.

All spotless and the kitchen extremely well equipped with good quality equipment. Great location for walking - we walked from the door on one of our days and a short drive will bring you to many great options. Owners were friendly and very responsive when we had a small unforeseeable problem during our stay (thank you). If Wi-Fi is very important for you, then I suspect it may always be patchy due to issues outside of the owners’ control. Also, it wasn’t obvious to us in advance that the garden terrace is only accessed from the single bedroom as it’s on a higher level. Not a problem for us though.

Ideal base to visit Buxton, Bakewell and Chatsworth. Thoroughly enjoyed staying in Aunt Jane's for a second year.

The best equipped kitchen we have stayed in, which is many. Lovely patio with smashing views. Couldn’t fault the accommodation and the hosts who lived on the farm were helpful & friendly. Added bonus was the new micro brewery within a short walking distance ,which is open at weekends. Well worth a visit. Can recommend a visit to Carsington Water 20 minutes away. We would definitely visit Aunt Jane’s cottage again.
