Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, comfort, and the convenience of on-street parking. While some guests encountered issues with the games room and outdoor furniture cleanliness, the overall experience remains positive.

The cottage is generally praised for its cleanliness, with guests finding it very clean upon arrival. However, one guest noted that the outdoor furniture required cleaning, slightly impacting the overall cleanliness score.

The location is highly regarded, being close to Alton Towers, local pubs, and walking trails. Guests are very satisfied with the convenience and attractions in the area.

The property is described as spacious, cosy, and warm, providing a comfortable stay for guests. The unusual layout with a walkthrough bathroom was noted but did not significantly detract from the comfort.

While the property is well-equipped, there are several mentions of the games room equipment being in disrepair, and some minor maintenance issues like missing roof flashing and a non-functional socket. These factors have led to a moderate score in this category.

There are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness category, and the score is set to null.

About this property

Nestled in the rural village of Alton near the Peak District National Park, sits this Grade II listed cottage, Staffordshire Knot Cottage. This stone-fronted cottage was built in the 1660s and retains much of its character with its original beams, woodburning stove and brickwork. Bring along your family and pooch to this pet-friendly dwelling, which is positioned close to Alton Towers and hosts a games room to keep you entertained. Step inside to discover the entrance hallway, where to your left you will find the dining room, hosting a table for six. Relax and unwind in the sitting room; here you can choose between a selection of books or the Smart TV, as the woodburning stove crackles before you. Stepping through the property, locate the kitchen, with everything you need for a self-catered stay with an electric and hob to rustle up heart-warming meals. The young ones can escape the adults and head to the games room, where a small pool table, table football and Smart TV with a PlayStation is certain to keep them busy. Meanwhile, the adults can unwind out on the rear patio and savour a glass of wine as they recount the day’s events. As the evening cools, retire inside and climb upstairs to pick your bedroom, with a spacious super-king-size, a double and a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room. The twin bedroom is access via the family bathroom, the ideal place to relax your muscles after an action-packed day, with its deep tub and walk-in shower. In the morning, head out on foot to explore the quaint village of Alton, home to rustic pubs serving local ales and meals, as well as a Post Office to stock up on the essentials. Jump in the car and venture to Alton Towers for thrilling rides, see adorable animals at the Peak Wildlife Park or embark on a hike around Dimmingsdale Valley & Furnace Forest Walks. Take advantage of the close proximity to the Peak district National Park, where you can roam the unspoilt landscape either on foot or bike; be sure to visit the stately home of Chatsworth House to immerse yourself in the past! It is much more spacious than I was expecting, which was ideal for our large family. It was also really warm which was a welcome surprise when the temperature dropped over the weekend. On street parking wasn’t an issue during our stay, we had 2 cars and occasionally had to park further down the road, but on the whole were able to get a space out the front. All in all, a very comfortable and pleasant stay. Thank you.

We stayed for a week and found the cottage to be very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The walkthrough bathroom was not a problem, we quickly developed a system! Although we initially booked for distance to Alton Towers, there is a lot in the village and many things to do do and visit in the area. We would recommend this property.

Layout of bathrooms difficult although maybe unavoidable. Anyone in twin room can’t really exit or enter their bedroom if main bathroom is being used. Games room is good but equipment needs to be replaced for snooker table. Only one cue there which had the end missing. Grandchildren would have appreciated Wi-Fi in the games room. Son in law noticed some roof flashing missing above twin room and some dampness in there which the owners may wish to address. We noticed the actually socket on the cooker switch doesn’t work. Hope these comments help. We had a very enjoyable week and very convenient to Alton Towers.
