Plan your holiday your way with Sheffield Holiday Cottages

Sheffield is a cool and cosmopolitan city in the heart of Yorkshire. There's lots to see and do in Sheffield city centre including the Millennium Galleries, Kelham Island Museum and the Botanical Gardens.

The city of Sheffield is also home to a bustling high street and vibrant nightlife with plenty of brilliant restaurants, bars and pubs, and fantastic live music venues, perfect for a memorable night out.

Fancy a break from the city? Surrounding Sheffield you'll find picturesque sprawling countryside and the beautiful Peak District National Park, ideal for outdoor adventures.

To complete your trip, stay in one of our hand-selected Sheffield holiday cottages. We have dozens of gorgeous self-catering properties packed with character, charm, and all the home comforts you could wish for.

Why choose a Sheffield weekend break?

Located in South Yorkshire is Sheffield, a unique city on the edge of the incredible Peak District, so city excitement and stunning natural beauty go hand in hand.

Sheffield is built on hills and rivers, the main one being the River Don, and completely regenerated itself after the Industrial Revolution. Old factory buildings and warehouses retain their historic stature but are now the homes of thriving independent businesses, restaurants, and other cool eateries. In short, Sheffield is a city with a vibrant history mixed with a modern and creative edge.

While the city is well-known for its steel production, there is so much more to Sheffield. It's a multicultural city with an eclectic arts scene, from museums and galleries to theatre and live music. One of our favourite areas is Kelham Island, which was once a powerhouse of industry and is now an eclectic and trendy neighbourhood.

Sheffield's museums are all free to visit, and many of them tell the stories of the city's past. The Kelham Island Museum is a fascinating insight into Sheffield going back over 300 years, while Weston Park Museum located just outside the city centre, provides history going back to prehistoric times.

For a spot of tranquillity in the heart of the city, head to the Winter Garden, a beautiful oasis and one of Europe's largest urban greenhouses. The eco-friendly building is a lovely way to enjoy a spot of respite, where you can relax among over 2,000 plants from across the globe. Or why not visit the beautiful Sheffield Cathedral and marvel at the oldest building in the city?

Impressive street art is everywhere in Sheffield. You can take a street art tour around the city or pop into The Millennium Gallery or Graves Gallery for more street art fun.

Music fans will be in heaven when visiting Sheffield. The city is renowned for its music scene, with famous artists including Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Pulp, Def Leppard, and The Human League hailing from Sheffield. You can even spot a huge portrait of Jarvis Cocker on the side of a building in Kelham Island.

To experience some top-notch live music, head to iconic venues such as The Leadmill, the longest running live music venue in the city.

Sheffield is also a dream come true for foodies. It has a thriving independent food scene, with countless cafes, eateries, restaurants, street food stalls, and bars everywhere you look. To discover more amazing food spots, join a Kelham Island Food Tour, or go to Cutlery Works, a food hall in Kelham Island with a buzzing atmosphere and lots of independent food vendors.

There's also lots of excellent shopping to be had in Sheffield. For something a little different, venture slightly south of the city centre and have a wander around the Antiques Quarter. It's a quirky area filled with ancient buildings and hidden antique gems. Meadowhall is a huge shopping mall packed with over 250 stores from high street to designer. There's also a massive food court and a cinema.

With so much to see and do in Sheffield, you'll only wish your trip could go on for longer.

Pheasant Lodge is set in a beautiful woodland, it's a luxury property and the master bedroom is huge!

The kitchen is very well equipped. Kieron met us and showed us around the property and how to operate the sauna and hot tub. We also used the pizza oven and BBQ, plenty of outdoor seating, a lovely garden and very private & safe with it being the last property at the end of the lane. We were celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of my parents who are both in their 80's, they found the ground floor bedroom and bathroom easily accessible. Also staying were my daughter and her husband along with my granddaughter of almost 15 months, she was so excited and spent so much time outside. There were 4 generations at the property and it suited us all, I stayed in the shepherd's hut, it was a very comfortable bed, hot water always available and I loved it. The walks to both reservoirs are truly stunning, we saw lots of wildlife and so peaceful. Fox Valley retail park is only 10 mins drive away and has every shop you could need and a beautiful Italian restaurant where the food was delicious. We also had pre-booked Sunday lunch at McGilverays' Wortley Arms, (as recommended by Kieron) the food was excellent, the owners went above and beyond to look after 12 of us (my sisters, niece and partner joined us). We want to thank Kieron for his great hospitality and was easily contactable if we had any requests or issues. I would highly recommend staying here, we all had such a lovely time. Thank you so much

We had a lovely stay of 3 weeks at the Millhouses Hideaway whilst building work was done at home.

The house was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Tracey was there when we arrived and was at the end of the phone, when we had a question, throughout our stay. Will was very responsive when the smoke alarm went off due to a problem with the oven door that they are getting replaced. The beds are very comfortable. The on suite has a soft mattress which we loved but others are firmer if you prefer that. The internet can go down for a short time in the evenings when the demand increases but we were able to get it back on by rebooting the router. We noticed that the water, when running a bath, runs hot then cold for a minute or two but if you leave the taps on it goes hot again and runs a lovely hot bath. There is a path into the woods and Millhouses park by the house next door and that is ideal for dogs. The back garden doesn’t have a gate but there is an old door to slide across to keep small dogs in the garden. We didn’t use the garden as it was wet and quite dark during our stay but we didn’t need it with the park being so close. We would recommend the house for other visitors. Ideally placed in the South of Sheffield for local walks and the Peak District as well as Sheffield City Centre.

3 pheasant Lane was an amazing little cottage.

The en suite bathroom was brilliant for my disabled auntie, she absolutely loved it. The kitchen is very well equipped with what you would need for a week away. The pizza oven outside was loved by the children. They were amazed at the pizza oven and now want one. The cottage itself looked clean and tidy when we got there, as soon as we pulled the hoover out however big clumps of dust was coming out as well. The Shepherds hut was lovely, doors were a bit of a pain as they kept getting stuck, took a lot of strength to open the door to the toilet. The bed is a bit shorter than I personally am used to however it wasn't a problem. It was comfortable and once I got used to it, I got a decent night's sleep. The hot tub was all prepared and ready for us when we got there, everyone loved the hot tub and sauna. The outside hosepipe is full of holes and sprays out everywhere as a result so washing down the patio in the garden is hard work. Lyndsey was very helpful and happy to point us in the right direction of the shopping centres and the pubs and other places we asked about. Always answered any queries we had and was very polite and helpful.

The cottage is well equipped, clean and is all we expected.

The owner is around and very helpful. There are two very pleasant walks nearby around the reservoirs but it is a fairly steep road back to the cottage if you are walking. The main disappointment was the fact that the garden is not enclosed for our 2 dogs. Luckily they were well behaved and respected the barrier we made for them with the garden furniture. The weather was disappointing but we made good use of the hot tub though didn’t have time for the sauna. I would advise that the spiral stairs to the mezzanine are steep and not suitable for an older person. The main bedroom with the en-suite would benefit from the toilet being boxed in rather than open but that is just my preference. I stayed in the Shepards hut but showered in the main house as the bathroom is quite compact. I am just over 5ft and had to climb onto the bed so again may not be suitable for an older person. A kettle would have been a bonus in the hut so a cuppa could have been made if required. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well in this peaceful rural location

An excellent base for our trip to Sheffield.

Loads of Buses and trains so you can easily get to the city and areas surrounding the city. From busy Sheffield to wild moor is only 2.5 miles. Beat that for convenience if you want National Park scenery. Loads of galleries and museums and green parks galore. Our base was great and a real home from home. We met Will and his adorable family and they helped us out with technology..... Old folk are technophobic you know. A lovely quiet place with an amazing park 5 yards away. Join the athletes... where do they get their energy? Every facility to keep you fit and for children to enjoy themselves. Visit the industrial village 400 yards up the road. It's so good. These were the best beds ever. So comfy. Shops and pubs around so you don't have to cook. Visit the Moor market in the city centre for The best curry. A wonderful culture-packed holiday made better with pleasant holiday accommodation. Oh, the water makes excellent tea... a real bonus. Well done Team Will. We will see you next year.
