Plan your holiday your way with Sheffield Holiday Cottages

Sheffield is a cool and cosmopolitan city in the heart of Yorkshire. There's lots to see and do in Sheffield city centre including the Millennium Galleries, Kelham Island Museum and the Botanical Gardens.

The city of Sheffield is also home to a bustling high street and vibrant nightlife with plenty of brilliant restaurants, bars and pubs, and fantastic live music venues, perfect for a memorable night out.

Fancy a break from the city? Surrounding Sheffield you'll find picturesque sprawling countryside and the beautiful Peak District National Park, ideal for outdoor adventures.

To complete your trip, stay in one of our hand-selected Sheffield holiday cottages. We have dozens of gorgeous self-catering properties packed with character, charm, and all the home comforts you could wish for.

Why choose a Sheffield weekend break?

Located in South Yorkshire is Sheffield, a unique city on the edge of the incredible Peak District, so city excitement and stunning natural beauty go hand in hand.

Sheffield is built on hills and rivers, the main one being the River Don, and completely regenerated itself after the Industrial Revolution. Old factory buildings and warehouses retain their historic stature but are now the homes of thriving independent businesses, restaurants, and other cool eateries. In short, Sheffield is a city with a vibrant history mixed with a modern and creative edge.

While the city is well-known for its steel production, there is so much more to Sheffield. It's a multicultural city with an eclectic arts scene, from museums and galleries to theatre and live music. One of our favourite areas is Kelham Island, which was once a powerhouse of industry and is now an eclectic and trendy neighbourhood.

Sheffield's museums are all free to visit, and many of them tell the stories of the city's past. The Kelham Island Museum is a fascinating insight into Sheffield going back over 300 years, while Weston Park Museum located just outside the city centre, provides history going back to prehistoric times.

For a spot of tranquillity in the heart of the city, head to the Winter Garden, a beautiful oasis and one of Europe's largest urban greenhouses. The eco-friendly building is a lovely way to enjoy a spot of respite, where you can relax among over 2,000 plants from across the globe. Or why not visit the beautiful Sheffield Cathedral and marvel at the oldest building in the city?

Impressive street art is everywhere in Sheffield. You can take a street art tour around the city or pop into The Millennium Gallery or Graves Gallery for more street art fun.

Music fans will be in heaven when visiting Sheffield. The city is renowned for its music scene, with famous artists including Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Pulp, Def Leppard, and The Human League hailing from Sheffield. You can even spot a huge portrait of Jarvis Cocker on the side of a building in Kelham Island.

To experience some top-notch live music, head to iconic venues such as The Leadmill, the longest running live music venue in the city.

Sheffield is also a dream come true for foodies. It has a thriving independent food scene, with countless cafes, eateries, restaurants, street food stalls, and bars everywhere you look. To discover more amazing food spots, join a Kelham Island Food Tour, or go to Cutlery Works, a food hall in Kelham Island with a buzzing atmosphere and lots of independent food vendors.

There's also lots of excellent shopping to be had in Sheffield. For something a little different, venture slightly south of the city centre and have a wander around the Antiques Quarter. It's a quirky area filled with ancient buildings and hidden antique gems. Meadowhall is a huge shopping mall packed with over 250 stores from high street to designer. There's also a massive food court and a cinema.

With so much to see and do in Sheffield, you'll only wish your trip could go on for longer.

Very well equipped and tastefully fitted out barn conversion.

This is located in an extremely quiet hamlet just outside Oughtibridge. Sheffield is just a 10 minute drive, but if you go the other direction you are presented with miles of open countryside. It’s a great location. Oughtibridge has a number of pubs and takeaways ( I recommend The Pheasant) Going back to the accommodation, there are some lovely touches. The kitchen is amazing with a massive central island made from railway sleepers. (as are many things around the accommodation. A huge fridge freezer, dishwasher, loads of cutlery and utensils and lots of crockery and glasses. We have been to so many places where there are 4 cups and four plates etc. Not here! Also downstairs is a marvellous utility room with loads of space for all the muddy shoes, coats etc. Bedrooms are all doubles and beds are extremely comfortable . The master bedroom has an en-suite and huge French windows giving the most amazing view. Minor criticism is that the rooms could do with a bit more storage for clothes. There is a downstairs toilet and shower. Beautiful family bathroom upstairs with twin wash basins and walk in shower. (en suite also has a walk in shower. The showers were excellent though the owner might want to think about fitting a glass screen, as it’s easy to flood the floor. The living area is comfy and has a massive 78 inch smart TV. Everyone loved this. Another feature of this place is all the lighting. There are lights everywhere enabling you to create whatever lighting mood you like. The only problem was knowing which switches to turn on and off/dim. I think I counted 32 light switches downstairs. I think it would be a good idea to label them or do a diagram,! Outside, garden furniture is plentiful with a big outdoor sofa and table set outside the front and another nest to the private hot tub. The hot tub is huge and was very pleasant. It’s a few yards away from the house and when it’s dark could do with a bit of outside lighting, but again a minor issue. The owner , Simon is a great host, very welcoming and always available to contact if you need anything. Plenty of private parking. There is a large lawned area big enough to exercise a dog, which is shared with the other cottage on the same piece of land. Overall, highly recommended .

We had a delightful stay at Underbank Hall Cottage.

We were welcomed by homemade scones, jam and butter with milk in the fridge. A lovely selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Also a lovely posy of freshly cut flowers from the vast gardens surrounding this beautiful cottage. The cottage itself was of a high standard and the rooms were much bigger than the photos made them look. Everything was catered for and lovely and clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable with lovely crisp linen to fall into. The towels were also of a high standard and ranged from face flannels right up to bath sheets and were on a heated rack in the bathroom itself. The surrounding areas were easily to access by car or foot whichever took your fancy. We highly recommend this property and the owner Mrs Weldon was so helpful whilst not in your face at all. A delightful relaxing stay and we can't wait to go back again. Thank you so much. Phil and Carole (Washington, Tyne and Wear, UK). 5***** experience

I only put MET expectations as I expect very high and that is what I got.

The cottage was in a beautiful location and was clean, cosy and calming. The gardens were magnificent and we met "the gardener" who turned out to be the owner. We spent a long time with him wandering around discussing the plants and flowers. The chickens were amazing with feathered crowns. The home-made scones were a delight and a welcome sight on arrival. We will be booking again, in a different season to see how things change as there was so much to see. Stocksbridge was a few minutes away and is well supported with shops and businesses although the fuel there is pricey. We found cheaper on our travels. The moors have little signposting so as to preserve the scenery, so a really good OS map is essential. There are some really beautiful villages to be discovered (and tearooms). There is a walk from the cottage which takes you down to the reservoir and as the walk is circular you end up back home.

Underbank Hall Cottage is an idyllic retreat from the hurly burly of everyday life.

It is spotlessly clean, well-equipped and very spacious for two people with a large living area/kitchen and a huge bedroom with en suite facilities. The cottage garden is very well-stocked and well-maintained but its main advantage is that it looks out over the owners’ huge and beautifully-presented grounds and beyond to views of the local moors; simply stunning. We also found the location to be convenient for long walks and visits to National Trust properties nearby. For those who enjoy cinema, the Penistone Paragon is a must; it’s like taking a trip back to the 1950s and is well worth a visit, if only for the interval where you queue up for ice-cream (just like in the olden days)! We strongly recommend this property and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Delia and David, the delightful owners whose discreet presence was reassuring but at no times intrusive.

Everything about this cottage was wonderful, set in beautiful location with stunning views.

As soon as you arrive it has a very homely and relaxing feel. The cake and tea went down a treat after a 4 hour journey and we all settled in well. The bed was so comfortable and well needed after a day of exploring the peak. The little thoughtful details like having the lamps on (we arrived when dark) curtains closed, heating on a comfortable heat, the cake and tea and relaxing bubble bath to use there really set the holiday off from the beginning - so thank you very much! The ensuite bathroom is lovely and modern with a walk in shower and lovely big bath. It really was the perfect way to celebrate the husbands birthday and see in the new year. We can not wait to return to underbank hall cottage in the summer!
