Despite being a hub for rural operations since the 11th century, Swinton's village layout as it is known today dates back to the 18th century. The town of Coldstream, which is located on the banks of one of the top salmon rivers in the nation, is only 5 miles to the north of this location. Duns, which used to be the region's largest town and is located 7 miles away, is rich in history. There are plenty of things to see and do in the Scottish Borders, including golf, fishing, and walking, as well as castles and stately residences. The east coast of Scotland with its stunning beaches is only a short drive away, and busy Edinburgh is about an hour's drive away.

Great location for exploring the borders. The addition of a slow cooker would be good but not essential. We hope to return.

As you walk in there is a musty smell but this may be because it had been closed up for while?? It did have all the equipment you would need but probably far more than required which if removed would give more work surface in the kitchen. Although we appreciate it is autumn & gardening does take a back step, the gardens were overgrown & unkempt. As I am currently on crutches, we had to sweep the long accumulated leaves from the steps to avoid any H&S Issues. All said, we had a nice time at Charlie's Cottage but feel it could do with a good clean & freshening up.

This place is so, so peaceful. Our dog Pogo loves this place too, the garden is her favourite place in the world. We love everything about this home. The log burning stove, the cosy sitting room. The kitchen is lush. Sleep so well here. Dish washer is a bonus no fighting on who does the dishes. The Indian takeaway food in Coldstream is delicious. The Chinese in Duns is lush but a long wait. We will be booking again as it's just lovely here. Battery recharged. Thank you Amanda Love the Fradgley-Thompson's
