What our customers say about their holidays

    • Frank - Verified booking

Absolutely superb property and a lovely host Liz.

We have had an absolutely perfect holiday at Grooms Cottage. The cottage was spotless and very well looked after, there is everything you could ever need, especially in the kitchen. Loads of different pots and pans etc. Even had colour coded chopping boards.. Lounge has 2 nice comfy sofas and a good size TV. Beds were very comfy. Benefits from having both a bath and shower. Enclosed garden outside with a brand new BBQ. Set in further lovely tranquil frounds. We could not find a single fault with the property at all...its fabulous ..and we will certainly return when we can. The location is quite remote and a car is needed to get around the area but we knew that before arriving and was one of the reasons we chose it. It is easy to get to loads of different places such as Edinburgh, North Berwick ( lovely little fishing town), Holy Island, Eyemouth to name a few. Most relaxed holiday we've had in ages... We would highly recommend grooms cottage to anyone. Thank you Liz, we hope to see you again soon.

This cottage is comfortably set up for four adults and a dog and is set in pretty surroundings close to the border towns and coast.

There are a couple of pubs a co op and a fish and chip shop nearby. My main concern was the cleaning of the property considering the check in and out times. First impressions were a dark courtyard covered in leaves with 2 old wooden chairs and some plant pots with dead plants in them. The front door mat was worn away and the steps were filthy as were the doorways and windows. There was no mat inside the door so we kept walking in leaves and muddy footprints. The house was dusty and had lots of cobwebs, the oven was dirty and the shower needed a good clean. It was also quite cold in the evening as only one heater was working downstairs and didn't give out much heat. Overall the cottage itself is very nice but it needs some care and attention to the little details to make it a more pleasant place to stay.

      Excellent time.

Cottage was great & surrounding area wonderful for walking Only comments would be that wifi was very bad. Most of the time it told me I was connected fine, but there was no internet. It was frustrating knowing the cottage had wifi, but not having it available. Would be easier to actually say there was no wifi which I think would have been easier to cope with. Wanted wifi mainly to check on weather for next day and see opening times of different places to go & visit. Other comment would be that the teapot was in the cupboard and when I went to use it there was a used teabag in. This had obviously not been washed. Info said all crockery would have been washed. In todays climate this is especially important. Overall though an absolutely fabulous holiday & cottage was great

The house needs quite some tlc.

Everything is a bit worn, tired. Owner was friendly and groceries were a nice gesture . Cleaning not up to standard, cobwebs in corners ceiling, cooker dirty inside. I should have mentioned everything there and then but you don't want to offend. Other people have the same complaints, looking back at the reviews, also for Gardener's Cottage next door. My advice for the owner is to have a good, objective look at the places to see what can be done to lift it to a higher level. Perhaps invest a little and check the cleaning. The setting is nice, the basics alright. It would be a shame people would not book again due to matters that can be fixed quite easily.

The cottage was in a very pleasant area but the immediate environs needed some attention.

The trees on the site would benefit from lopping and felling, to allow more sunshine into the cottages, and the grounds would benefit from more regular maintenance. The cottage itself was adequate - except for the very creaky floorboards! However, as we usually arrive at a holiday cottage with several days' worth of frozen meals, we do not expect to have to defrost the freezer overnight in order to unpack the freezer bag. I would therefore suggest that the weekly housekeeping checklist includes de-icing the freezer and also checking that all the lights work.
