Many places of local interest can be reached by train, even to Aberystwyth and for train lovers there are also many steam trains in the region.
Day trips are also possible by car to Bodnant Gardens and Plas yn Rhiw, a 16th century Manor House with ornamental gardens and fabulous views.
Also worth visiting is Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn to see the Ospreys' nesting and breeding grounds.
Criccieth is on the sustrans national cycle route 8 and the National Trust Porth Meudwy coastal walk, with walks from Porthmadog through Criccieth to Pwllheli.
Criccieth also has kayaking and paddleboarding available.
Easy to get to Portmeiron (entrance fee may apply), location of 'The Prisoner' TV series, with an Italian village, restaurants and ice cream shops.
