Guests say

Captain's Rest is highly praised for its stunning views, comfortable furnishings, and excellent location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped property, beautiful decor, and the sound of the sea. Some concerns were raised about cleanliness, check-in times, and Wi-Fi connectivity, but overall, the property is cherished for its homely feel and is frequently rebooked by satisfied visitors.

Most guests found the property to be clean and well-maintained, with several noting it as spotless. However, a few guests mentioned issues such as a smell of damp on the ground floor and scuffed walls towards the end of the season, which slightly affected the score.

The location is consistently lauded for its spectacular views and proximity to the beach and local amenities. The ease of access to nearby attractions and the calming sound of the sea contribute to a high score.

Guests frequently mention the comfort of the property, highlighting the quality of the beds and furnishings. The presence of steep stairs was a concern for some, particularly elderly guests, which is reflected in the score.

The property is well-equipped with kitchen utensils and other amenities, though some guests experienced issues with Wi-Fi and suggested improvements such as a TV upgrade. The lack of outdoor space was noted by a few, impacting the score.

While many guests were pleased with the overall experience, there is insufficient information regarding specific thoughtful gestures such as gifts to accurately assess this category. Therefore, the score is set to null, and guests should note that such gestures, if provided, are a bonus and not guaranteed.

About this property

Captain's Rest is a family friendly seaside holiday house in Criccieth - you’re a stone’s throw from the beach! Laid out over three floors, this beachside holiday house has plenty of room and boasts brilliant sea views from both sitting rooms.

There are two sitting rooms and both of them have amazing sea views - the shore is on your doorstep! The ground floor sitting room has sofas set around a gas log burner effect stove and a wall hung flat screen TV.

On the third floor you’ll find the second sitting room. It has a large window with views out to sea, a large corner sofa, books and board games for entertainment if you can bear to tear your gaze away from the views! This is the ideal space for a bit of relaxation.

The contemporary kitchen is bright and has a Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and fridge freezer. From the kitchen you can head into the dining room which has a glass roof! This room is brilliant in the summer, but bright in the winter months.

On the first floor are two lovely bedrooms. The master room has a king sized bed and sea views. The second room has twin single beds.

On the third floor is another bedroom which has a double bed.

Captain’s Rest has two family bathrooms, one with large walk-in shower, loo, wash hand basin and underfloor heating. The second bathroom has a shower, loo and wash hand basin.

There is no garden here, however there is a small paved area to the front where you can sit on the bench to enjoy a morning coffee if you like. At the back there is a gravelled narrow space where you can store bikes. However, you are literally overlooking the beach at Captain’s Rest.

The best bit about staying in Criccieth is that there’s so much here without having to jump in the car. Fab places to eat and drink, great walks, a castle, to explore and lovely local shops. Some of the best ice cream is found in Cadwaladers and the best fish n chip shop on the Llŷn Peninsula are both less than a two minute walk away. You’re close to attractions, activities and fab places to eat and drink. Happy holiday memories will be made here!

Often described as the 'Pearl of Wales on the shores of Snowdonia’, this delightful seaside town is situated just 5 miles from Porthmadog. The town’s 13th century castle perches majestically on a rocky outcrop, dominating the skyline and offering superb views of Tremadog Bay and the Snowdonia mountains. Watersports enthusiasts will be delighted by the two beaches, whilst walkers and bikers are spoilt for choice by the proximity of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Stroll along the beaches, watch porpoises playing in the surf, or relax in the various pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, sampling the famous Cadwalader’s ice cream. Further afield, attractions such as Portmeirion’s wonderful Italianate gardens, the Ffestiniog railway in Porthmadog, Harlech Castle, Caernarfon Castle and the beautiful beaches and renowned golf courses of the Llyn Peninsula are all within an easy drive.

The Dolphin’s every morning at around 7am was just beautiful to watch from the top of the house.

We had an amazing week. The house is beautiful, decorated as an ‘ode to a beach house’ without it being over the top. The house is clean and airy and spacious. The top lounge was our favourite room, we watched glassy seas, choppy seas, sunsets as well as the puffing pig porpoises from that amazing window. To be able to step out of the front door and simply cross the road to the beach is the stuff holidays are made of. Fish and chips and ice cream two minutes away, Dylan’s restaurant a 10 minute walk as well as pitch and putt and the high street also 10 mins away. The only downside was that we couldn’t get the Wii to work, which our two girls were disappointed about as they don’t have one at home! Other than that, we had such a great week and would definitely go back.
