Guests say

Dinas Island Cottage is praised for its superb location, with proximity to unspoilt beaches and a peaceful setting. Guests appreciate the friendly hosts and the cottage's potential as a base for exploring the area. While the charm of the working farm and the rural experience are noted, guests also mention that the property could benefit from updates and a thorough cleaning.

Several reviews mention the need for a deep clean, with specific references to a surface clean condition, mould, and leftover food in appliances, indicating that cleanliness is below expectations.

The location is consistently lauded for its beauty and proximity to beaches and coastal paths, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful retreat and exploration of the local area.

Mixed feedback on comfort, with some guests finding the beds soft and warm, while others note the need for new sofas and the presence of collapsed seating, suggesting moderate comfort levels.

Guests report outdated fixtures and fittings, a need for maintenance on taps and showers, and issues with hot water supply. The presence of internet and provided towels are positives, but overall, facilities require attention.

There is no mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.

About this property

This semi-detached National Trust-owned farmhouse is situated in a sheltered position on Dinas Island (actually a prominent headland) and is part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The farmhouse offers peace, seclusion and is perfectly located on a working sheep farm in north Pembrokeshire.

The traditional slate front opens into a large hallway that leads you through to the comfortable lounge with log burning stove. As you continue you will find the well-equipped original farm kitchen with its traditional low open beamed ceiling.

On the second floor you will find one master double bedroom, a bunk bedroom and the family bathroom with suite of bath, shower, WC and wash hand basin all enjoying views over the pasture and farmyard.

At the front of the property you will find a patio area with garden furniture and to the side and rear you will find a large lawn area. The lawn area is shared with the owners but please note that the owners very rarely use it as they are working the farm and all pets must be kept on a lead.

A short walk from the property will grant you access to the Pembrokeshire coast path as well as Pwllgwaelod and Cwm yr Eglwys beaches. A short drive will bring you to Dinas Cross village and Newport where you will find a selection of pubs, shops, galleries and eateries.

Newport is a beautiful coastal town in Pembrokeshire, south west Wales lying on the River Nevern with a selection of shops, pubs, tea rooms, plus an excellent golf course overlooking the sea as well as a lovely sheltered harbour. Newport lies on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which is renowned worldwide for its unique landscape and wonderful opportunities to go dolphin and seal spotting. Wonderful coastal walks along the path or in the nearby Preseli Hills with the ever changing scenery are a walkers dream all year round. Learn about history when you visit the mills, craft centres and castles dotted around the county or spend a day at the wonderful Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort where you can learn hands on all about living during that time. See the majestic Shire Horses at the Shire Horse Farm or spend relaxing days on the huge choice of beautiful sandy beaches. All year round this is a perfect location for all the family.

We appreciated the fact that, despite living next door, the owner mainly just left us in peace to enjoy our holiday. The only minor niggle is that we never managed to work out how to control the central heating!

Ignore the satnav as this takes you down a tiny road that is playing Russian Roulette with any traffic. Use the directions as given by the site. Beach and coastal path was unspoilt. Good stopping off point to take day visits to local towns and shopping. Internet has a good speed and unsecured. Dogs need to be kept on a lead outside of the house. Beds soft and warm. This is a working farm. Was 4 star 16 years ago and now shows signs of being rather tired. Washing lines available and adjoining garden. Power shower needs to be left to run before adjusting as it takes time to warm up and then gets hotter (fine for anyone with patience and understanding of fluid heat transfer in a powershower). Plenty of Towels provided. TV, Fridge and small freezer provided. shortcomings: Washing up machine still had chicken and olives in the bottom of the machine from previous users - no tablets provided (I had to clean the filter and previous users not used tablets so plates etc not properly clean! - we brought our own tablets and cleaning kit.). Bathroom taps need update or maintenance as cold tap needs to be carefully turned off or it will be left running by children. Mould in shower cubicle and bathroom outside wall needs attention. Hot water takes time to arrive at kitchen sink but very hot on arrival. Hot chocolate powder provided was three years out of B.B. date! Sugar bowl was left empty except for encrusted with tea hardened sugar crystals. Sofas and seats need to be replaced as they are all with collapsed seating needing cushions but fine if you can play about with said cushions and you don't have back issues. summary: We loved it because for us it is you could expect with less spiders for this part of the world in an old farm house conversion and in this price bracket and was better than others we have stayed at. Large master bedroom with bunk beds next door. Need a good condition car to drive up the hills, or 4x4.
