Arrived Sat late teatime , had to spend well over an hour cleaning before we felt at all comfortable to bring luggage in.
Apartment needed high and low deep clean . Body hairs in bathroom cabinet, bedroom blind filthy, body grease on all work surfaces and touch points through out the flat. Chipped crockery, dirty bedside lights, sand and dirt on floors and under sofa cushions.... and much more !! Contacted Carbis Bay Office Monday morning. They sent some one out to look but it seems this is standard that Sykes holidays regard to be 5 star! No feed back given to us .We contacted again Wed morning. Staff came out to meet us but it had to be in their time, to suit their agenda so we had to give up holiday time to meet staff at the apartment .They wouldn't come out after 6pm so we could enjoy afternoon out. We were told this would have been regarded as an emergency so we should have alerted Saturday evening to the emergency number .However even when we highlighted need for deep over haul , the disinterest of the Carbis Bay staff was palpable. Again it appears that the management of the apartment are happy to sell the property as 5 star. Apparently we have to deal with the owner who lives in Australia because that is in the terms and conditions. We booked this apartment as part of South Devon/Cornwall road trip. The previous apartment had been immaculate , managed by the owners who lived locally. As explained to Sykes we had 3 days of commercial trips booked in that part of Cornwall .However we left the apartment early once all the trips had taken place. Didn't want to be in such a grubby environment for a moment longer. Moved on then to another immaculate property . We know what 5 star cleanliness and 5 star customer service looks like. Ocean Shore falls short on all aspects.

Mixed feelings.
The flat is in an ideal location with only a couple minutes walk to the beach/train station/town. It also has a perfect view of the beach which was really nice especially with the table in front. We also really appreciated the spa passes included which were an amazing benefit. However, I donât usually write reviews but felt our experience was tarnished somewhat by a couple of issues. One was the smell of the property, there was a really unpleasant smell in certain areas of the kitchen including near the fridge as well as a weird smell when you first walk in the door especially when itâs hot. We also didnât feel cleanliness was up to a standard weâd expect as when we arrived there was bits of food on the rug, hair in the bedroom drawers, food left in the cupboard as well as the cheese grater not being clean. The smell as well as it not being 100% clean made our stay less comfortable as it made it unpleasant being in the kitchen area and we were also put off using the kitchen equipment/putting our food in the cupboards. We looked everywhere for what could be causing the smell but couldnât find what was causing it and we also bought febreeze to improve it but it didnât help. Itâs a shame as these are problems that could definitely have been improved with thorough cleaning between guests.

We have stayed at Heron four times.
The location is lovely and the parking is a bonus. However this year we were disappointed with how dirty the apartment was. We had to clean the fridge before we could use it. The oven is in desperate need of a clean. We used it once but the smell of old burnt food was overwhelming. There is a desperate lack of kitchen utensils, no decent frying pan for example, which along with the dirty oven made self catering a challenge. The bathroom is mouldy ( a point picked up in previous reviews) and has gotten worse over time. The furniture is also tired and the sofa was quite uncomfortable. The curtains are ripped ( as they were last year ). The rug is a trip hazard. As I said, a parking space is a bonus but this year the signs were all broken and it was unclear where to park . We returned one day to find no space which was really frustrating. I reported all these issues to the holiday company and in fairness they offered to redo the cleaning but we declined. I also reported the main issues again when we returned home, but no response hence this review. Heron has been our âgo toâ place in St Ives and has represented good value for money but we shanât return until there are improvements, but if you value location and lovely views across the harbour above all else this is probably the place for you.

A charming flat which overlooked st Ives in possibly the best location you could ask for and only a few mins walk into the village / Town.
The apartment was well equipped for our stay. Including bedding and fluffy towels etc. Parking was a short 10 min walk from the property. Their are a few things that need to be addressed in the property for improvement: - the bed, the mattress is awful :( the bed is a small double (I believe) so we both ended up sleeping on our sides. - the WiFi (it only work in the communal corridor) the problem is the signal strength does not cater for the property and needs its own connection to a modem. The WiFi boosters simply do not offer any form of WiFi to the apartment. - final night of our stay the battery to the smoke alarm was going off ALL night - intermittent beeping (battery went). - bathroom mould on the ceiling, bathroom could do with a lick of paint. We do understand there is no window hence the reason for this happening. But requires addressing as a âluxuryâ apartment / flat. Overall a pleasant stay ( apart from the last night with the smoke alarm). âWhat 3 wordâ location ///cobbles.liberated.able for anyone who finds the property hard to find as couldnât find on Google.

We had a lovely stay at Heron but there were a few things that i think need addressing.
Firstly the parking space, im not sure this should be advertised as including a parking space tbh. I was unable to use the parking space all holiday (BMW 4 series gran coupe) since the space left by the cars either side simply didnt leave enough space. Personally i dont think this is the fault of the drivers in either space. The allocated bay is next to an end space which is next to a big hedge. If they parked to leave enough space they wouldnt be able to manoeuvre their vehicle. I had to pay over £60 to park in a public car park for the week which unfortunately resulted in a dent in the side of my car, so not great. I normally select properties based on having private parking so this was disappointing based on the listing. The only other feedback point would be the bed. The mattress needs replacing asap , it slopes to one side and is not comfortable. On holiday a good nights sleep is a must so this needs sorting for future customers. Everything else was as expected.
