What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Hancock - Verified booking

Wow, what an incredible place! The Old Chapel is absolutely stunning, and one of the finest and most sympathetic chapel conversions I’ve ever seen (and great that it's been kept in the family). I love the way much of the interior/original layout and features have been so carefully and lovingly preserved, while creating a luxurious and modern holiday apartment with all the creature comforts you’d expect. Everything is provided for your convenience, including a delicious welcome hamper with locally sourced goodies. The chapel and garden are a heavenly sanctuary, so peaceful. The owner is wonderfully welcoming. The only thing we think could be improved is to fit a separate lock to the internal door in order to secure privacy and keep the holiday let entirely separate from the owners apartment below - but other than that it was absolutely perfect! The village of Nayland is a beautiful ‘chocolate box’ village and a great base to explore from. All in all we had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend it. Thank you Maggie!

Myself and my husband had a very enjoyable long weekend at the Old Chapel Annexe. The building's conversion has been sympathetically and ingeniously done. As others have eluded - the loo in the box pew is fabulously quirky. Maggie is a very welcoming and helpful host. It was my birthday weekend and her treats and birthday wishes were very much appreciated. The village of Nayland itself is stunning with over 100 listed buildings. Can recommend The Anchor Inn. We booked a dining pod as it was a special occasion. Set right beside the river. The friendly staff, the service and the food were faultless. If you're keen wildlife watchers like us, visit Manningtree for Avocets and Wrabness Nature Reserve for Curlews. If you want a seaside fix without the crowds, head to Dovercourt Bay for its Blue Flag beach, quaint beach huts and charming lighthouses. We were blessed with spring sunshine all weekend and the light flooding the Chapel's huge stained glass windows was just glorious!

    • Mr Bower - Verified booking

It was a privilege to stay in such a place of history, peace and space. Having discovered several books of photos of old Nayland in the property, we grew so fascinated in it that we spent our days seeking out the exact places where the photographers had stood and learning about residents of the past. We then toasted some of those very residents on the sunny bench in the graveyard! Every part of the property is tasteful, calming and comfortable. and Maggie a delightful hostess. We could have eaten out but didn't, as we loved cooking and eating our meals in the peace of the chapel. The surrounding village and area is beautiful and it was a real difficulty to drive away on our last morning.

    • Miss Rodgers - Verified booking

I booked The Folly so I could join family on holiday. I was staying here alone and it was perfect for one. The property is in a good location- very near the high street and a few minutes walk to the beach. The Folly is light & airy. Blinds keep the space private from another holiday property across the yard. There are two pull-out beds which are surprisingly comfortable and easy to use. The bathroom is small, but everything works well. The kitchen is fairly well equipped, I must admit I didn’t cook many meals. The sitting area is pleasant and the sofas are comfortable too. Everything I needed for a week’s stay.

    • Mr & Mrs Scally - Verified booking

My husband and I had a lovely relaxing week at the chapel annexe! We had a very friendly welcome from Maggie on arrival! I had the best sleep ever! The bed is huge and extremely comfortable with lovely cotton bedding! The towels were so soft & fluffy! Everything you need for a week stay is provided for with a lovely welcome basket too! I loved relaxing on the chaise in the apse in the afternoons! The whole place is so peaceful! Was sad to leave! Would definitely return! There are so many pretty places to visit nearby & we didn’t manage to do everything we wanted!
