What our customers say about their holidays

    • Emma - Verified booking

We liked the village location of Swan View cottage and its proximity to Lechade on Thames with its pubs, cafes and shops.

A pint of milk and a bottle of wine were left for us on arrival which was appreciated. The overall standard of accommodation at the cottage is good. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas are all a decent size and tastefully decorated. The cottage also benefits from a pleasant and a neat garden with seating. There’s also a conservatory which is a lovely place to relax. The cottage is reasonably well equipped, but there was no toast rack, or shaver socket in the bathroom. Only one hand towel was provided, luckily we brought a couple of our own. The freezer needed defrosting and the kettle needed descaling. On the negative side the bathroom was in dire need of a refresh, we were told that there are plans to do this. The shower riser rail is too low and the bathroom window is a poor fit and is draughty. Parking on the drive could be an issue for some as there is an awkward slope which makes it difficult to reverse onto; made worse by the cottage being on a bend restricting visibility. There was no information pack providing the usual useful information you would normally expect; details of local shops, GP, vet, hospital, local amenities, pubs, public transport etc. There was no fire escape plan either which is a serious omission and which needs to be remedied. Overall we felt the cottage was quite good but could be a lot better if the above issues were addressed.

A lovely quaint cottage situated in a quiet location but with a blind corner when pulling out of the driveway.

Overall we had a pleasant stay as we used this house as a base so we could visit the airshow. A little bemused when the owner turned up on the Monday the 22nd of July expecting the house to be empty as she had planned to stay there!!! An oversight on your part Sykes?? Not the best maintained property as the bathroom window handle was sheared off leaving a jagged edge. The master bedroom had a double socket hanging off the wall with exposed live wires!! We did contact the mobile number on the booking form to report these hazards. The freezer had to be defrosted as the drawers were frozen in place and couldn’t be moved and the top of the fridge hadn’t ever seen a duster as it was covered with dust. Generally the inside of the house could do with a freshen up as it is looking tired but on a positive note it was comfy and a nice place to stay.

Cottage ideally situated in a stunning village about 10 minutes drive from Bourton-on-the-Water.

Some essentials in the fridge on arrival which were much appreciated after a long drive. We stayed with our small toddler and dog. The garden was lovely and a BBQ is on site to use. A number of steps downstairs made things tricky with the baby, as did the open balustrades both downstairs and upstairs. A baby gate was provided but it was missing pieces to attach it to the wall(!). However, given this is a period property, this is somewhat to be expected but just something to note if you're planning to bring babies or toddlers. Cleanliness was also a bit of an issue: the surfaces in the cottage were dusty on arrival, the carpets hadn't been vacuumed upstairs and there was dirty cutlery in the kitchen drawers. We also found clothing from a previous guest in one of the bedroom cupboards..!

Jayne is awfully kind, the cottage was immaculately cleaned upon arrival, and the welcome packet is sublime.

And I find it hard to write the rest, as we found the cottage disappointing. The kitchen is tiny, the fridge is way too small if, like me, you order groceries for 5 days. It does just fit 2 days, at most. The kitchen lacks storage space, some shelves above the fridge would have made a positive difference. Downstairs in general is on the small side, upstairs is better, but without any proper wardrobes. Hooks on the wall instead. The windows throughout are difficult: some open, some don’t or miss the iron work to keep them open. The fire place doesn’t work properly, we ended up with the front door wide open to let the smoke get out of the front room. Not what you hope for on a chilly evening. All in all rather uncomfortable and disappointing.

A really enjoyable stay, blighted only by The Swan being shut (and no sign of it re-opening!

:( ) The cottage was very clean and welcoming. Lots of room downstairs especially for the 2 of us and our Labrador Molly. Shame there isn't a 3rd bedroom as this would be perfect for a larger group. Facilities are moire than adequate throughout the cottage. Dog walking in the village is so handy (across the road and into the massive fields beyond) and there is a useful back garden. In all the property is ideal, although local facilities are few and far between..... The area has lots to offer and the walks from Southrop to EastLeach Turville over the fields and from The Trout Inn to The Riverside Inn at Lechlade are super short and easy picturesque outings. A really enjoyable stay, thank you.
