What our customers say about their holidays

    • Simon - Verified booking

This cottage was right up our street, and was hoping it was as described in the listing, which it was.

The cottage was immaculately clean on arrival and even more spacious than viewed from the pictures online. There was only the three of us including dog, but we like our space. The rural location on a farm with horses and dogs was great. Our dog is really hit and miss with other dogs but once she was settled in, she loved the two farm dogs. The younger dog would love to play with our dog when I walked her up the road or down in the extended grounds. Jackie the owner was very friendly and could not have been more helpful. On the day after we arrived she even invited us over to join her and others for a very belated Christmas get together which she had had to postpone from last December, now September, pulled pork baps with salad followed by profiteroles!. We spent some time just chilling and relaxing at the property. The view over the extended grounds with its peaceful and tranquil location were just the job. With the door open to the conservatory it was just nice to sit and listen to the River Corran babbling away as it runs through the grounds. There was a distant thunder storm on the first night but with all the lights off and full view of the sky from the conservatory, we had a show of lightning for most of the evening. We are members of National Trust (NT), so most of our visits were to NT properties or places including Stackpole Quay (and circular walk to the spectacular Barrafundle Beach), Paxton's Tower, Newton House, Dinefwr Grounds and Castle, Calby Woodland Garden, Lawrenny Quay/Claddeau Woods. and Dyffryn Gardens (on our journey home). Other places we visited were the Dylan Thomas history trail in and round Laugharne itself and the Castle with spectacular vies accross the River Taf/estuary. Also for those interested in all types of vehicles and speed, the Museum of Land Speed at Pendine is worth a visit. We had some good food at Poon's in Laugharne (Thai/British street food and breakfasts). Also Indian takeaways both good from Elaichi's and Bombay Spice in St. Clears. Another good place for breakfast (on way to Pendine) is the Stone Range Cafe. Lovely food too at Lawrenny Quay Cafe. All in all a great stay and would definitely consider a returning. Overall the holiday was very good.

The accommodation is in a very convenient location to visit sites in the area. The building, grounds and derelict mansion are very impressive. The hosts were very pleasant. The home was exceptionally well equipped - probably the most glasses , cutlery etc that we have ever had on holiday and all were very good quality. There was a slight problem with cleanliness - we moved one sofa in the lounge to access the control for the radiator located behind the sofa as it had been turned off. On moving the sofa large clumps of dog hair were revealed together with a half eaten oat type bar/biscuit. On moving the other sofas more dog hair was present but not as much. A day or so later my daughter found a false eyelash on the floor in a bedroom. Other than this the remainder of the property was very clean. The initial problem with cleaning was reported to the owner who was very apologetic. The owner provided a large bag of charcoal and matches/firelighters to use the bbq but unfortunately the bbq was very dirty with some mould. It was not a problem as the age range of our group did not lend itself to holding a bbq. Cleaning the bbq at home is a job I detest and was certainly not going to do it whilst on holiday. Some constructive criticism I hope - three bedrooms had no wardrobes which was a surprise only a few hangers on the back of doors which meant that we used our cases to keep our clothes in. The lower drawer on the chest of drawers in the end bedroom ( with two steps) was almost impossible to open and close - decided best not to use it. Finally, it would be helpful if shelving were provided in the bathrooms again as there is no place for toiletries. Hope this does not sound too negative as overall we were pleased with the facilities and had a great family holiday.

Our family recently had the pleasure of staying at this charming cottage for a holiday, and it exceeded all our expectations!

From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. The cottage is beautifully decorated, luxurious, and immaculately clean, with spacious bedrooms and an open living room that’s perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. Every little detail has been thought of to make families feel comfortable and welcome. One of our favourite features of the cottage was the beautiful fireplace in the living room, which added such a cosy and warm atmosphere in the evenings. Outside, there’s a fantastic BBQ space where we enjoyed family meals in the fresh air. The kids absolutely loved the separate games room, which had fun activities like table football and table tennis—perfect for keeping everyone entertained! The surrounding area is stunning, and it was the ideal spot for our family to unwind and disconnect. There are plenty of lovely walking trails nearby, great for family strolls and exploring nature. Plus, the cottage is in a fantastic location with easy access to some of South Wales' beautiful castles and beaches, making it perfect for day trips to explore the rich history and stunning coastlines. Edwin, as our host, was fantastic—super friendly, helpful, and responsive to any questions we had. He even reached out before the holiday to provide easy navigation to the cottage and shared a thoughtful list of things to do and places to eat in the area, which made planning so much easier. A lovely welcome list of essentials was also left by Edwin at the cottage, which was such a thoughtful touch! If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing escape for the whole family, this is the perfect place. We all had an excellent stay and can’t wait to return!

We had a very disappointing stay at Corran Cottage, I'm sorry to say.

We really wanted to love this property as we were looking forward to a peaceful and relaxing holiday with our dog. The cottage was advertised as being in a "tranquil setting" with "quiet surroundings", however it was far from this. The cottage is semi-detached; there is a bed and breakfast adjoining the building and guests come and go. This would not ordinarily be a problem but for the owners 2 dogs barking at all arrivals. Also on site is the owners stables and this also resulted in many arrivals and departures, again causing car door slamming and dogs barking. The owner lives opposite the cottage and the lovely garden you see in the pictures of the trees and stream is beautiful, but is also shared with the owner and the B and B guests. There is, therefore, very little privacy in the so called "private" garden for residents of the cottage, as it is overlooked by the extended garden and all who visit it. To make matters worse the owners dogs took exception to anyone using the extended garden, and our dog was jumped on and growled at each time we left the cottage. We also witnessed the same thing happening to residents of the B and B who tried to walk their dog in the extended grounds, so it certainly was not a one-off situation. Each time we left the cottage we had to carry our dog to the car to prevent it being jumped on by the owners dogs. A far from relaxing stay at Corran Cottage and we decided to leave 4 days early, as 3 nights there was far too stressful for us and our dog.

Just returned from our wonderful holiday at The Mill and Stable.

This was our second visit to the barns, having stayed at The Old Cow Barn last year. The barns are well laid out, especially for a wheelchair user. The adjustable care bed and wet room are invaluable and so difficult to find in other properties. Andrew, the owner, was very friendly and able to provide commode and shower chairs if needed, as well as hiring a hoist if required at a very reasonable price. Andrew was in touch during the week to ensure all was well (which it was). The barn, though big is very homely and warm, with all the equipment you could want for a self catering holiday. The “welcome basket “ was greatly appreciated and the bara brith and welsh cakes went down a treat with the wine provided. The barns are in a small village, up a hill as previously mentioned but with a lovely view of the countryside and the sea from the upstairs double bedroom. A car is needed but within easy access to attractions and places of interest. By car: 5 minutes from Laugharne, in one direction (small shop and few pubs) and Pendine (10 minutes) in the other ( lovely Chinese restaurant and beach), and 25 minutes from Carmarthen (big Tesco and Morrison supermarkets). Amroth is 20 minutes away (beach, shop and pubs), Saundersfoot is 25 minutes away and Tenby is 30 minutes away. Within 60-90 minutes are Swansea and the Gower and the Pembroke National Coastal Park. I would highly recommend The Mill and Stable (and The Old Cow Barn). We are already planning our return next year.
