Winding country roads lead you into Laugharne along plenty of signs for the Dylan Thomas Boathouse – the poet being perhaps the locale’s most famous resident. He referred to Laugharne as “a timeliness, mild, beguiling island of a town”, and it’s clear to see why. It sits in picturesque surroundings and became a prime filming location for BBC drama ‘Keeping Faith’. The cast’s favourite spot in the town was the Brown’s Hotel, a watering hole that dates back to the 1750s that was also favoured by Dylan Thomas. Visitors can get a history lesson, a drink, and a chat with locals here, as well as through the town’s several well-renowned eateries and cafes – the cream teas here to die for!

This was/could be a beautiful property but is let down by its maintenance.

The positives: lots of space, two toilets, washer and dryer provided in out house, lovely quiet location in countryside, bbq provided with gas, outdoor covered seating area, price was reasonable for size of property and time of year but possibly due to the negatives below. The negatives: boiler is noisy and leaks all over the floor, previous visitors had left dog poo in the garden, garden not at all secure even for bigger dogs, no hand towels or tea towels provided, no hand wash or cleaning products at all, my bed sheet had stains on it, the beds and sofas were very uncomfortable, curtain pole fell down during our stay nearly hitting a child, not particularly clean - cobwebs everywhere, curtains very dusty and not hung properly, kitchen units very dirty. No wood burners present anymore and the welcome book is out of date. Missing smoke detector upstairs. Upstairs toilet didn't flush properly. Two microwaves in kitchen but one didn't work. To improve: suggest installing an oven as the Aga/Range is difficult to cook in for a large number of people. Fix the boiler. Needs a deep clean and for someone to do a walk through as if they were a paying guest. This place could be wonderful but it's missing some basic ingredients. People who rent holiday cottages expect a lot more nowadays and I'd say this falls short even on some of the basics. Also, if you allow dogs, make the place dog friendly - ensure the whole garden is secure, provide a hose for washing paws/boots, consider adding a gate on the drive, provide baby gates if you don't want dogs in certain areas/allow dogs on furniture and provide throws. If these were improved on I would actually book again.

When I saw the previous reviews I was nervous Iâd made a mistake, but I was blown away by the property.

The house was spotlessly clean, with not a cobweb in sight (and I looked because I hate spiders). The dining room as you enter was homely and a great place to eat and chat at the end of the day. The kitchen was beautiful, very well resourced, and though it took me a moment to figure out the range cooker, I fell in love with it by the end of the two weeks. The two living rooms are warm and inviting with oversized sofas, and the addition of electric stoves in the fireplace means no dirt or cleaning. For us it was warm, so we never needed them. The bedrooms were lovely, and in the winter would feel cosy, but my only issue was, it would be good to have lighter quilts and bedding for summer. The gardens were really nice, with a large dining table for eating out in the sun, and the covered over seating area, was lovely when sitting in the evening, or when the Welsh weather wasnât playing ball. We donât have children with us, but wow they are catered for with a full sized table tennis table in the garden, a pool table in the outhouse, and a game of table football as you do the laundry. The facilities were great, with access to the washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a rotary dryer if you prefer. The kitchen has a dishwasher too, so no manual labour required in this farmhouse. And of course David, the owner is wonderful and so knowledgeable about the area, and things that suit each guest. He was available whenever we needed help or advice. And he has ensured that there is lots of information, maps, and literature for you to find things to do. We will definitely be back, and canât thank David enough for letting us use his beautiful farmhouse.

The house was lovely and a really good size for a family stay.

The baby facilities were good (there were even baby bowls, which was good as I'd forgotten to pack ours) and the owner seemed nice when I spoke to him. Beds were lovely and comfy and the heating system was great - we've been to a few similar houses and they've been like fridges so that was a nice surprise. There's a lovely little orchard with apple and pear trees, which would have been brilliant if we'd come earlier in the year. The kids had fun with the pool and football tables. The TV's were set up with sky and there were options for Netflix and YouTube which was great to wind down at the end of the day, as well as Scrabble and Monopoly. The guides and leaflets were really useful, and there seemed to be a lot to do if we'd stayed for a bit longer. There were a few minor downsides though, the first being the garden fence was broken so the dog escaped out onto the road and into the farm next door the first time she went out (it was a low fence anyway, so I imagine she could have jumped over if she wanted to). There was nothing in the house in the way of cleaning products, which was frustrating when we arrived on the night - no hand soap, washing up liquid, etc. There was a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table, which is obviously not ideal for regular washing or children. We've been to a few places where they've left a little welcome basket with tea bags and things like that, so maybe we've been a bit spoilt

This could be a lovely holiday cottage, but is let down by it's cleanliness and features that are described / pictured but missing.

When we arrived, the first thing we did was visit the local co-op to buy bleach and cleaning cloths as the sink was brown with dirty stains. As the weather was lovely, we decided to have a BBQ - again needed to visit co-op to buy matches as it wouldn't light and there weren't any matches or lighter provided. The BBQ was also filthy, so had to clean that too. The chiminea and wood burner pictured have been removed. The laundry room is dirty, dusty and filled with junk so there's no place to sort clean washing - no laundry basket either. The windows and doors haven't been cleaned for ages - cobwebs, bird poo, dirt and fingerprints all over them. There's a hose point in the garden, but no hose, so impossible to clean muddy dogs after their walk. The mattresses are cheap, hard and uncomfortable and the bedding is old and un-ironed. The mop and bucket were rancid, I can't believe it had been used in the days prior to our stay! When I accidentally burnt the toast, and the kitchen filled with smoke, the smoke alarm did not go off. The tap in the bathroom is either full on or off, there's no halfway. There's a lot more I could say, but basically the place needs a full, professional clean and much more attention to detail. A basic welcome pack, even just tea, coffee and milk would have been appreciated. We've stayed in many cottages over the past few years, this one is well below the standard of others on the market.

A lovely apartment with fabulous views.

Worth noting that this is up a very step drive and the walk to the town is not to be underestimated! Many facilities were closed in Pendine due to the seasonal nature of the resort. The hot tub, sauna and other facilities in the apartment were a good addition and made for a very relaxing stay. The view is simply wonderful and despite some rainy days, the ever changing landscape never failed to impress. Earlier comments mentioned the decking was a little worn - it looks as if this has been replaced and was new. A few minor niggles:- 1) the underfloor heating was set to 20.5 and there was no instructions on how to alter this. The apartment got quite hot, particularly in the bedroom at night given the boiler was located here. We ended up opening many windows which seemed a waste of electricity. Some instructions in the welcome folder would be great. 2) The cleanliness of the apartment was not up to scratch. The dining and living room tables were sticky and just needed a good clean. There were many cobwebs in the corners of rooms and things generally needed a good deep clean. 3) unlike other Sykes and other holiday cottages, there were no essentials left - no washing liquid, no toilet roll, only three dishwasher tablets for a week. Whilst we accept we will top up, we would expect at least something to get you started.
