    Laugharne Holiday Cottages

Winding country roads lead you into Laugharne along plenty of signs for the Dylan Thomas Boathouse – the poet being perhaps the locale’s most famous resident. He referred to Laugharne as “a timeliness, mild, beguiling island of a town”, and it’s clear to see why. It sits in picturesque surroundings and became a prime filming location for BBC drama ‘Keeping Faith’. The cast’s favourite spot in the town was the Brown’s Hotel, a watering hole that dates back to the 1750s that was also favoured by Dylan Thomas. Visitors can get a history lesson, a drink, and a chat with locals here, as well as through the town’s several well-renowned eateries and cafes – the cream teas here to die for!

Holiday cottages in Laugharne include cottages with patio space, pet-friendly accommodations and open-plan, family-friendly homes. We're sure you'll find something to suit everyone, whether you're travelling just the two of you, or with the whole family crew.

A lovely apartment with fabulous views.

Worth noting that this is up a very step drive and the walk to the town is not to be underestimated! Many facilities were closed in Pendine due to the seasonal nature of the resort. The hot tub, sauna and other facilities in the apartment were a good addition and made for a very relaxing stay. The view is simply wonderful and despite some rainy days, the ever changing landscape never failed to impress. Earlier comments mentioned the decking was a little worn - it looks as if this has been replaced and was new. A few minor niggles:- 1) the underfloor heating was set to 20.5 and there was no instructions on how to alter this. The apartment got quite hot, particularly in the bedroom at night given the boiler was located here. We ended up opening many windows which seemed a waste of electricity. Some instructions in the welcome folder would be great. 2) The cleanliness of the apartment was not up to scratch. The dining and living room tables were sticky and just needed a good clean. There were many cobwebs in the corners of rooms and things generally needed a good deep clean. 3) unlike other Sykes and other holiday cottages, there were no essentials left - no washing liquid, no toilet roll, only three dishwasher tablets for a week. Whilst we accept we will top up, we would expect at least something to get you started.

The property, the view and the hot tub were absolutely fabulous.

Just a few niggling things noted, there was sand in the hot tub prior to us using it. There were lager bottle lids under the outside table, which is suggesting that the area had not been cleaned. The bathroom smelt and felt damp so we left the window to try and air it. I used the jacuzzi bath and ' a plastic, yellow wrapper ' floated in the bath. Thar really did make me feel very uncomfortable. On the right hand side of the bed frame whist I was sleeping my hand touched something sticky. I'm praying that this was just a spilt drink and nothing else, however again not pleasant. The rugs in the bedroom had seen better days. The bedding was quite drab and felt quite worn. Finally the racks inside the fridge were cracked. However, whereas I've highlighted some areas I would like to stress that the property is in an idyllic location. The owners were extremely kind allowing me to bring both of my small dogs with me. The hot tub was checked everyday. The overall theme was this was a relaxing haven. I've stayed in many 5 * properties and with a few tweeks this could step up from 4 to a 5 because of the location, view, hot tub and sauna. Would I stay again? Yes, but I think I would need fully check all areas prior to me merely accepting any hygiene issues. Many thanks

We loved our stay - the location was great and the views were amazing.

The weather was a bit hit and miss (good old British summers) so it was good that our apartment had a covered terrace which kept us dry when we wanted to sit out in the hot tub or just enjoy the sea view. The amenities and space were good in the apartment - the sauna was an added little bonus as we didn’t really know that was part of the package! The bed and the settees were comfortable. It suited two of us and a small pooch really well! Small things to note - It was very clean on arrival although after a week with a dog there it could be helpful to have a hand held/small hoover available for people to clean as they go. The bins were quite far down the hill and recycling options weren’t great, and with a sore back it meant I had to leave rubbish for the cleaners which I felt a bit bad about! These were really minor things though and if helpful to feedback for the site managers - they definitely didn’t affect our stay. The location is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet get away - the beach is stunning! We would and plan to come back again - great value for money and recommend.

All in all we had a lovely stay here.

The views were beautiful and the apartment was in an ideal location. However, there were just a few bits we were disappointed with. Firstly, the instructions for heating weren't clear, which lead to the apartment being so hot all the time. We ended up having to switch it off at the mains because it was unbareable at times! The hot tub was cleaned/refilled on the day we arrived meaning we couldn't use it, which was a bit of a shame as we were under the impression we could use it right away. Unfortunately in the bedroom, there was mould and dust down the back of the bedside table where we also found a few bottle caps too, which suggested it hadn't been cleaned thorougly enough. We only had access to one small towel and a hand towel each during the whole of our stay which wasn't enough for us, so would definitely recommend bringing your own towels. No necessities (dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, toilet roll etc) were left meaning we had to buy these out of our own pocket, which for a £400+ apartment we would expect to be included. Despite these things, a lovely stay in a lovely area.

We spent a week here and had the best time. The cottage is well equipped (with a Nespresso machine) and everything you could need during your stay. The rooms are large with high ceilings giving every room a lovely airy feel. Although there is no parking we never had any issues parking outside. It takes 10 minutes to walk down to the beach, which is amazing with very few people on it (have the fish and chips from the kiosk there, they are amazing). Also do eat at the Inn at the Sticks (you will need to book), the food is amazing as were the pizzas from the The Pizza Bar at the local shop. There is a great circular walk with lots of POI's which we split into 2 walks and also went on the Sunset Cruise (Carmarthen Bay Ferry) which was exilerating and informative but if you suffer from seasickness it may be best to leave that one! We also went on the Gwili Railway on a rainy day which was also good fun. All in all the house is perfect for 6 adults, lots to do and good communication with the owners. Would definitely recommend.
