What our customers say about their holidays

We loved our stay at this apartment, Gillian made us feel very welcome and at home.

If you like period features, huge sash windows, spectacular sea views, comfortable furnishings and quirky vintage decor, this is the place for you! There is a private path direct from the house that zig-zags down through the steep hillside garden, giving a three minute walk direct to Lynmouth harbour front and a great pub. Another walk, up a tarmac public path to Lynton, is possibly the steepest I've ever walked up, but give it a steady 10 minutes and you soon get to the shops and other pubs there. Don't be put off by the electricity meter, we only used about £7 in a week (including the £5 already in when we arrived) and we cooked most nights, although I imagine that heating in colder months would use quite a bit more. The apartment has its own private access as well as the shared access through the reception area. There's also a terraced seating area just outside the windows to sit out on warmer days. A great value stay.

Our 3rd stay at this property.

Great location, and everything you need for a weeks stay. However, this time we noticed the twin bedroom has developed a damp problem, rising up from the derelict building below. This can clearly be seen from inside and from the decking area. Bedding was musty by day 2, and clothing in the wardrobe smelt musty. My daughter had to move rooms. I didn’t want to write a negative review, as this issue isn’t the owners fault and must be tricky to solve. I contact Sykes twice before writing this, and haven’t had a reply. I’d be wary of booking again until the issue is addressed as it will get worse year on year. If this issue was resolved it would be full marks across the board.

Flat 4 is great for a stay all year round with a beautiful enclosed balcony.

The whole house is spectacular and the decor as you enter the property is just brilliant. Gillian was a great host and it was lovely to chat with her and hear of the history of the house snd local character. The guest book showing visits over the past 50 years had me hooked and it made for a great page turner. Such a good base to explore and able to leave the car for days to take in the local walks. I would definitely return if in the area. It is key people do their research as the property as well as Lynmouth/Lynton would be challenging for anyone with restricted mobility/fitness.

Great cottage in a very picturesque location, the cottage was immaculate and had high quality equipment and furnishings. A few minutes walk to the shops and pubs in lynmouth and the cliff railway or a 10 minute walk up the hill to Lynton. Parking was limited on our arrival “Saturday” but was a small car park at the end of the road if you cant park but would advise to unload the car before driving to end as it’s a bit of a walk with your bags back to the cottage. Would recommend staying here !!

Had a lovely stay at Summerville, thank you for the lovely cake and milk very much appreciated after a long journey. The property was lovely and quiet, very clean and spacious. The only negative we found was the overgrown trees in the front garden that made inside dark, and made it unable to have the evening sitting out. This has been raised to the housekeeper who has said she will speak with the owners. We would return to Summerville in future with no hesitation.
