What our customers say about their holidays

    • Laura - Verified booking

Myself and my husband stayed with our two year old son for five nights, Monday - Friday.

The apartment is much bigger than we expected, and provided everything that we needed for our stay. It was spotlessly clean, and had a shared balcony with the apartment next door. The views were stunning, perfect for watching the sunset (see my TripAdvisor review for some pics). Oven/microwave/cutlery ect. Were provided. We always take extra bits with us, as we like to cook as well as eat out. However, there is a local Tesco and other conscience shops in Ruthin if you forget things. The apartment is perfectly located for a number of national trust walks, and is a scenic drive to Chester zoo/Cheshire Oaks. We like to get out and about now we have a son, but in all honesty if we were here 'childfree' we probably wouldn't have left often... especially when the pub below is open! Nik and Julia the owners are lovely, welcoming and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Our son was let to roam around the pub, whilst my husband enjoyed a gluten free beer. After contacting Nik about my husbands coeliac disease before our arrival, gluten free beers were waiting for him in the pub. Which was perfect! The owners were easily contactable, but let you get on with your stay. That's how we like it! We enjoyed our stay, and would return 100%. As soon as I have given birth, we are going to look at our calendar and book again! Thanks Nik & Julia. Xx

      The apartment suited our purpose.

We were there for 2 nights and the hosts were amazing and so friendly. They go out of their way to help you and make you feel very welcome. Unfortunately we cannot comment on the food since the restaurant was closed due to staff shortages how ever I was aware of this before I booked since I had already had a telephone conversation with Nik the landlord. The landscape surrounding the public house is beautiful and it was so nice to be awoken by the sounds of birds chirping. If you wish to be in a noisy, loud music playing, pool tabled pub this is not for you. This is a lovely traditional pub where you can spend quality time. The apartment is well equipped for everything you would need. Please take enough supplies for a whole weekend since we found that the shops were shut from 12:00 noon on Saturday and that included Ruthin. You have to expect this in many areas of Wales. I will go again in the future even if just to taste the food once the restaurant is open again. Many thanks to the hosts. We wish you all the success for the future.

We had a lovely stay in the quirky cottage, was lovely to be right by the canal.

Was a comfy cottage with great facilities, and great location. As other reviewers have said, there are too many ornaments and trinkets meaning it's a worry (with a 6 year old) about potential breakages. Unfortunately I did break an ornament which was on a shelf right by the window, which I accidentally knocked when trying to reach the curtains. There's also a lack of space on surfaces to put our own things due to the trinkets, lovely as they are! The cottage would also benefit from some kind of manual covering basic things like when to put the recycling out. When we were there the bins were full to the brim likely because they weren't put out on collection day by previous guests, as they didn't know when to do this. Also other general information on the cottage and amenities would be helpful, eg we were keen to lock our bikes in one of the outhouses but no key. Also wasnt sure about use of the kayak. Overall though, a lovely stay and would recommend! These are just points to improve the experience for future guests.

This cottage truly is a hidden gem !

Rural , quiet , calming just a few things to help you forget everything and recuperate. From the sound of the stream all day long , to the sheep in the field , this cottage is just blissful ! What more do you need than the countryside on your doorstep , with the odd passer by. We read someone had mentioned that the internet wasn't up to scratch , It was fine for us with 3 children , and to be honest , who goes to a stunning cottage to sit on the internet all day?? Hems and Emma are absolutely amazing hosts , nothing is too much for them , if you need anything , they are always a phone call or email away. This cottage has everything you could possibly need , everything has been thought of that you may need for your stay. We really didn't want to leave , after being there for just a day we had already booked to come back next year , that's how amazing it is. Hopefully this review isn't as glowing as it reads so this can just be our hidden gem :) Thank you so much Hems and Emma.

We were reaching the cottage around midnight.

We could not find the house as it was bit confusing. We thought of calling the house owner Hems but it was too late and we did not. After five minutes yet we were searching we received text from the house owner saying “are you in” from that he guided us to the cottage. What a wonderful human being. Later I found that there is a satnav application called “WAZE” it is directing us to the correct location. When we wake up in the morning birds were chirping, sheep were bleating , cows were mooing and there is another sound which made my holiday - the babbling clean river flowing in front of the house. This river is very good for the children. Because they can play very well. The water was not very fast and it is not that deep. Highly recommended for children. We r going with luscious memories. In the hall there a lots of things which took us back to decades. Inside and outside it’s wonderful. Planning to come again soon .
