What our customers say about their holidays

    • Daria - Verified booking

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the enchanting Ivy Cottage in Winster, and it was truly a delightful experience from start to finish.

Nestled in the heart of this charming village, Ivy Cottage provided the perfect blend of comfort, tranquility, and rustic charm. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the cottage's idyllic atmosphere. Stepping inside, we found a warm and inviting interior that combined traditional features with modern comforts. The decor was thoughtfully curated, creating a cozy yet stylish ambiance that immediately made us feel at home. The cottage was impeccably clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One of the highlights of our stay was the little garden, a private oasis where we could unwind and enjoy the serene atmosphere. We spent several evenings lounging at the table in the garden, soaking up the sun, and taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. It was the perfect place for outdoor dining. The location of Ivy Cottage was ideal for exploring Winster and the surrounding areas. The village itself is charming, with its historic buildings and friendly locals, and there are plenty of scenic walks and trails to discover nearby. We loved being able to stroll to the local pub and shop, both just a short walk from the cottage. Overall, our stay at Ivy Cottage was nothing short of magical. It provided the perfect setting for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway, and we left with wonderful memories that we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend Ivy Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in a beautiful and welcoming setting. We can't wait to return!

The cottage was very nice and in a great location, parking was a bit of a squeeze on the road but the market square was 2 minutes away and had plenty of parking available so no issues there.

I've been to tideswell several times before and was really looking forward to my stay. Unfortunately there were a few things that weren't so great which really let the place down. The major issue was that the shower did not work. From reading the guest book found at the cottage it was obvious that this was an ongoing issue which had yet to be fixed, which begs the question why is the property still being let with a broken shower?? I did contact sykes customer service about about this to attempt to remedy the situation but after an initial phone call to them to explain the issue I heard nothing back from them or the owner. Other issues were minor annoyances but added up to a general feeling of poor management, especially when paying nearly £400 for a two night stay!.....dog poo in the garden (not great with a 3 year old running around), bare minimum of utensils for cooking, one single tea towel and no spare bin bags for a weekend stay..... Overall this could be a great cottage in a really nice part of the peak district but it definitely needs work to bring it up to standard.

The cottage is very comfortable, nicely decorated and warm.

We didn't have a problem with parking nearby. There were a few things which would have made our stay at the cottage even better though. There were no contact details for the cottage so when the TV remote control batteries died on the last night we couldn't let anyone know - there were no spares to be found in the cottage either. There is a Smart TV but no terrestrial aerial so as this was our first experience of a Smart TV we could only watch what we wanted to on the iPlayer! The TV played up a few times as well. There are very few utensils in the kitchen - removing poached eggs from boiling water with an egg slice was quite tricky! There were no egg cups (mentioned a few times in the Housekeeping Book), pan scourers, kitchen roll or the odd bit of foil and a spare toilet roll. Little things that just make life easier. We didn't use the back yard as the weather was a little damp - but there is shared access for the neighbours through the back of the houses - not that we saw anyone though. Overall a nice little cottage.

Impeccably clean, cosy and inviting cottage.

A lovely welcome pack which includes decent red wine! Thank you Tom and partner. The twin bedroom bit small, storage is mostly in main bedroom. Main bedroom is spacy and comfy. Kitchen very good and clean, a bit rustic. Bathroom is brand new and fantastic. Views amazing, the Nature is breath-taking. As a birder, I was blown away by the variety of birdsong ! Lovely compact garden, but well kept. The veranda was wonderful, spent lots of time in there relaxing. If you want a high octane, extreme sport, theme park type holiday, this isn't for you. If you just want some me-time, to reconnect and recharge in peace and quiet, to get back to Nature, this is most definitely for you! One small advisory note- try to park the car in village main street if possible. (5 mins walk. ) The hill (West Bank) is alarmingly steep and very busy! Not at all quiet from a traffic point of view. Something which surprised us somewhat. Everything else is full on sleepy, however.

We enjoyed our stay at Alma Road.

The cottage was cosy and comfortable and ideally located to visit all of the sites we planned to see including Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Lyme. We had everything we needed for our stay and found the cottage relaxing to return to after a long walk. We only managed to park in the layby at the top of the road twice in a week, but there were always spaces available further down the road and in the village as explained in the description. Over all we enjoyed our stay and found the cottage comfortable however we feel it was let down by the bathroom which has a mould problem (as did all rooms around the window ledges) and lack of deep cleaning- the essentials were clean and hygienic, but there were thick layers of dust elsewhere, e.g. around the bed and the bathroom extractor fan.
