What our customers say about their holidays

    • Wendy - Verified booking

We've used Sykes before and stayed in Stockbatch Granary also on the Pitchford Estate in 2022.

We therefore knew what to expect from the description of the farm track to the property. It was actually much better than we thought and perfectly OK if car has decent ground clearance and you take it slowly. Yes your car will get mucky but the roads around are mucky too. It was so fabulous to be somewhere so peaceful during 'firework week'. We didn't hear a single bang so great for our dogs. The garden was secure/enclosed enough for our dogs who are larger and don't tend to wander but smaller dogs or escape artists would get through the railings. We enjoyed being able to walk from the door although sadly one footbridge through the woods was damaged. Walking around the estate lake was a nice stroll with autumn colour. Sadly clouds meant no dark skies but with zero light pollution I'd imagine this is a great place for stargazing. Bit of a drive to any pubs but most seemed Dog Friendly. The Pound does fabulous pies. If I'm being super picky another sofa would be good if 4 adults in the property but we made do. Contrary to a previous review, there is a microwave (the top oven is a combi). Would definitely return, the garden would be a great suntrap in the summer. Easy to clean although a mop would have been useful (there was a head but no handle). Wifi was fast enough for me to do a couple of days work and for streaming catchup TV on the freesat.

      Lovely barn, basic but pretty.

The garden is beautiful and perfect for dogs and safe for children. The barn is also pretty. We struggled without clothes drying facilities as in a tumble dryer with a family of four. The double bed we found uncomfortable but the two single beds in the other room were lovely. We regularly stay in cottages and barns across England and Wales and think that a gesture of milk and bread is often much appreciated especially when accommodation is so far from local shops. The host Anna was lovely and helpful, there if you need advice. The area is lovely for walkers, for the children and more active days out such as theme parks and similar we often went back to Wales and enjoyed a day out in Bewilderwood in Chester as well. The local Ludlow Castle was lovely and Shrewsbury Town is pretty. There are lovely walks on the grounds of the barn. There is a pub within a 10 mins walk from the barn, it wasn't for us so we often went to the Nags Head in Pontesbury, food was lovely and drinks lovely. Lovely stay but with a few changes recommended as above.

What a lovely cosy, peaceful and spacious cottage this is.

We were met with chocolate brownies which went down well with the kids, milk and eggs, thank you! The cottage catered very well for our two dogs (Pepsi & Bree), the boot room was a must with the occasional shower we experienced most of the week. But putting the weather aside we enjoyed the walks around the cottage, some ending up at the local pub! Anna made us feel very welcome and whilst she went on a well deserved holiday the in-laws ade sure we were okay at all times. The cottage had everything we needed, the card table got a lot of use each evening. An enclosed garden for the dogs was a delight. We’ve always struggled to have a fully enclosed garden and we’re relieved this wasn’t something we had to watch out for for the full week. The log burner was also great a couple of cold evenings. All in all, we would recommend this cottage to anyone, it was a great relaxing week. Thank you

We had the most wonderful and relaxing week at Hope Hall Barn, Anna the owner was welcoming, with a straight forward check in and provided lots of local information, maps and suggestions for walks directly from the property.

The secure and enclosed garden was wonderful for our dog, being able to open the door for him, knowing he was safe at all times was such a treat The barn was clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay, including plenty of logs for the log burner and a delicious home made lemon drizzle cake, thank you Anna The property is very quiet and set remotely at the top of a long drive, the views of the surrounding countryside are amazing, even though it was a bit wet and windy we spent time sitting outside with a cuppa soaking up the tranquility. There is a local pub - The Stables which was a 10 minute walk from the property which is very cosy with an open fire and a varied menu, we would recommend the home made pies This was our first visit to Shropshire, Im sure without doubt we will return in the future

A wonderful stay in a well equipped barn conversion which is quite and away from the noise of everyday life.

The wifi is good and general facilities excellent (the bath in the bedroom is slightly odd but go with it and it's fine!). Garden is great is you have dogs. Would be nice to see some egg cups but that's a pretty minor, and personal preference. Close to Shrewsbury, which is lovely to explore and the surrounding areas are lovely for walking. The real issue that lets the barn down is the access road. Think moon level craters and a farm track that really requires a sturdy 4x4 and that gives you an idea of what to expect. We prayed for our suspension each time we arrived or left the barn. On the last day the farmer had made some repairs but a careful and slow drive was still required. Would we go back or recommend it? Yes. Just maybe with a tractor next time!
