What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caryn - Verified booking

This is a new (opened late December 2022) quirky, comfortable, warm, well equipped and clean pod in a quiet location.

It is a the last in line of 4 pods (the others are single story ones) and as it is at the end of the road no one has reason to come up to your pod. It is accessed up a well made farm track with very little around it and that makes for a lovely peaceful location. There is also very little light pollution in the immediate area so on a clear night you can see many stars, fantastic whilst sat in the hot tub. The owner was lovely and helpful on local things to do and left a well received welcome pack for us on arrival. The sunrise view through the front upstairs bedroom window (from the warmth and comfort of bed) across the valley on a clear sky morning was stunning. The hot tub was spotlessly clean and it was warm and ready to use immediately on arrival, it was also chemical checked by the owner daily. The walks directly from the pod on the hills behind it are endless and a fantastic benefit to have from the doorstep. The wifi at the pod was strong and stable and there is a good phone signal there too. The pod is not suitable to all due to the tight spiral staircase and the open plan and low ceiling bedrooms, but it was absolutely brilliant for us (2 adults and an 11 year old).

      You want peace and quiet.

This is the place. Wonderful! Central enough to enjoy the surrounding attraction areas in both England and Wales without driving excessive miles. Plenty of local walks from the door step, plenty of canal walks close by. Some good local places to eat. The Three Pigeons is a must. We arrived at the cottage to find it very clean as you would expect during the corvid 19 issue. The cottage was very comfortable. Once we were unpacked it was coffee and cake (Provided by our host) on the patio, taking advantage of the new garden swing chair and enjoying the afternoon sun. As we had our dog Isle with us. The host loaned us a dog crate which Isla was used to sleeping in at home so this was another bonus. A great idea more cottage owners may consider. Everything was as we have come to expect from Sykes owners but this cottage exceeded expectations. Thankyou.

What a gem of a find the Laurels Barn was!

We have stayed in numerous cottages from the Sykes website & this one is definitely the best.Ali,the owner, introduced herself shortly after we arrived-which was lovely as mostly you never meet the owner of the property. The barn has been beautifully done & has absolutely everything you need for your stay. There is a lovely conservatory-ideal to relax in after a day out & lots of nice touches throughout the property-Ali has thought of everything! It is in a lovely, peaceful area & we really recharged our batteries here.Baillie, our little dog was fascinated with the 2 cows in the field behind us!Lovely homemade cake for tea on our arrival-thank you Ali-you should be very proud of the barn-a real credit to you!A proper 'home from home' & we will definitely recommend it.

The Cottage was extremely comfortable, cosy, and very well equipped for a self-catering holiday.

It was immaculately clean upon our arrival, and the owner (Ali) was very welcoming & friendly throughout our stay We were very fortunate with the late-October weather, and only needed to use the Central Heating during the late evenings. We also had the added bonus of two very tame & friendly young Cows in the adjacent field who kept us highly entertained with their antics. As soon as they saw us in the rear garden they wandered over to us for a stroke and a friendly 'chat' ! What an enjoyable experience. We would not hesitate to recommend this Cottage and will certainly be returning in the future.

      We absolutely loved this pod.

It is set off the beaten track with no traffic noise and absolutely stunning views. The pod was immaculate and had everything we needed, and the bed was super comfy (very low ceilings upstairs but we found them very fun!) On our last night we lay in the hot tub and looked at the stars which were very clear, it was brilliant. Local walks were brilliant, especially through the gate up to the stone circle. Our dog loved the space around the pod, there was plenty of space. Although there are 4 pods together, we didn't hear our neighbours once. We fully didn't want to leave!! Highly recommended.
