What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lorraine - Verified booking

We stayed at Devine Lodge, Callington in Cornwall after finding a last minute deal.

This was great for us as our motorhome had broken down the week before in Scotland and we didn't want to waste the second week of our holidays. We arrived early and we were advised that we could enter the property by the cleaning team, it had been left very clean and we really liked how all the crockery and cutlery had been put through the dishwasher for us to empty. The lodge had everything we needed and the double room had a comfortable bed. We took our own towels which was just as well as the ones left in the property weren't particularly clean. The property was nicely layed out and the lights on the balcony looked lovely on an evening. The welcome pack was extremely informative although we had to Google how to get the TV working and it kept randomly switching off. The internet was poor quality along with the TV signal however we spent little time at the property and made the most of our visit to Cornwall. Plenty to see and do. Each evening when we returned we were left without a parking space, it is advertised as having two, perhaps it would be a good idea to have this highlighted in the parking area. Our first evening we visited the on site pub which served a good selection of drinks although a little expensive. We decided to stay for a meal where I opted for the halloumi burger which was pleasant enough and my husband had the chicken Kiev which was served to him raw!! We only discovered this once he'd eaten some of it. Fortunately he wasn't ill. They apologized and refunded the money for his meal only. Each evening when we arrived back at the property we noticed a very strong smell of damp, we noticed this got a little better after having the heating on however the double bedroom was particularly bad where we noticed damp patches on the ceiling, we also noticed that the curtain tie backs were loose as was the bath panel. We hoped that these issues were due to it being the end of the summer season. This is a good location however I'd have been extremely disappointed if I'd paid full price and wouldn't recommend this accommodation to family or friends

I enjoyed my stay in Flora’s Hut although, due to an unforeseen commitment, I unfortunately had to cut my week short.

Despite the appalling weather I experienced whilst I was there I found the hut cosy and quite sheltered from the elements. It was only myself and my little dog so we had enough room although, at 5’6” and petite, I wouldn’t recommend for very tall or bigger-built people as the bed, although very comfortable, might prove a little snug. And although the 8 cushions were aesthetically pleasing, they were quite impractical as there was nowhere, other than the floor, to put them when in bed. I did struggle somewhat with somewhere to hang my wet waterproofs and soggy clothes, and having gone through several pairs of boots, trying to get things dry was a challenge. I like to read in bed, too, so found the lack of bedside lamp rather unfortunate, as one had to get out of bed to turn off the overhead lights. And I would have benefited from a shelf over the shower room basin to put my toiletries and contact lens fluids. Ended up just rearranging the kitchen shelf and using the kitchen sink instead. The water was lovely and hot in the shower, which was great after all the cold rain. I was very glad of the secure garden as Jimmy is losing his sight and wasn’t able to get lost. Sadly, because the weather was so very bad, I wasn’t able to sit in the secluded little garden, but on a pleasant day I’m sure it would be wonderful. I liked the peaceful location with easy access to the main roads. And it was kind of the hosts to leave milk and biscuits. I would stay there again especially in a drier season. Thank you.

This holiday was the best UK holiday we've had.

The house was perfect for us, our family & little dog. The location of the house is brilliant, lots of days out within the hours drive. The site is fantastic.. we couldn't believe how relaxed and fab for the kids it was. Facilities are great.. really wish the pools we're open earlier and later as we had to cut out days out shorter if we wanted to go swimming between 9 and 5.. and the games room and tennis are only available whilst reception is open which I believe is 9 until 5. Pub was fab, great entertainment, staff were lovely and helpful, we enjoyed lots of meals out in the restaurant.. always fab food. Little shop for any essentials was great. The house was absolutely perfect, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay, patio out back great for our little BBQ, nice picnic bench and separate bench for extra seating.. the VIEW from the back of this house is to die for. Waking up to that every morning was a blessing.. house was well equipped and had a lot of things that we brought as we thought it wouldn't be there e.g kitchen scales, etc , but that's fab means you can pack less :) feels like home & we will all miss it. House owner is fantastic and would go the extra mile for anyone, very helpful (my car battery died the day I was due to leave & owner helped with jump leads she had in her car - very thankful as it got us back home safe.) Overall - amazing.. sad it went so fast ! X

The holiday park was so peaceful and quiet.

The lodge itself was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. It was a bit tricky getting my Mum’s wheelchair to the door, but that was my own fault for not checking the disability access. It was manageable but we had to go to go back on ourselves a bit to use the upper path. We loved the upside down arrangement of the accommodation; not only did it make it easy for my Mum to access the toilets and bedroom, but having the living room balcony on the first floor is great for views and alfresco dining. We didn’t really use the on-site facilities but the location was great, there’s an Asda garage just a mile or two down the road which is handy for supplies. We went to Tavistock which has an indoor market and some large supermarkets. Access to Dartmoor is close by, and Bude, Looe and Plymouth are all less than an hour’s drive from the holiday park. I couldn’t fault the accommodation, it was lovely. If I was really nitpicking, I would say that an info sheet or welcome pack might have been useful, just to point out that the Wifi router needs switching on, as does the hot water and to outline where the rubbish goes and what goes in recycling (some places don’t allow glass for example). Having said that, it wasn’t hard to work out. We would 100% stay here again, we were really impressed and were sad to leave!

Gull lodge, lovely setting , close to many places to visit.

Was cosy with 5 guests although not a huge issue. Visited in summer holidays so paid a high fee for the stay, bin was already full under the sink and could have done with a better clean but main issue was the sliding door on the front of the lodge was not working. Handle was partly cracked so I guess a previous guest has tried hard to open the door too. Obviously this door opening onto the patio area is a main feature of these lodges so was quite a disappointment especially at the prices charged. We couldn’t open it more than a couple of inches at a struggle. Moved the table form the front around the side nearer the other door so we could sit and eat outside. Expect better. Sure it’s an easy fix. The fixtures and fittings should be in working order. Wouldn’t hurt for somone to smarten the garden area up a bit and deal with weeds growing through the access track. With circa 50k of income over the 6 weeks holiday from the lodges non of the above should be any issue to deal with.
