Oakwood 2. Pictures make it seem larger than it actually is so it’s a bit of a shock when you first walk in however it was lovely and clean.

Paper blinds on all windows some of which are ripped and have been for a while according to previous reviews. Would appreciate curtains in main and twin bedroom windows to allow you to open the windows without the bugs or light getting in. Kitchen - utensils need an overhaul , would appreciate silicon spatula as metal fish slice does not get chips off tinfoil or any other food for that matter! (Previous reviews suggested similar) The bottom 2 drawers underneath the hundreds of mugs supplied also needs sorting out. Would be best to have all instruction booklets in a folder rather than in the drawer and sorted out. Lack of storage space for food in the kitchen so had to move all the crockery to the bottom shelf of the cupboard to be able to use the top shelf next to microwave to store stuff. Decking - No seat cushions could be found for the outdoor furniture despite it being in the pictures. The coverings on one of the chairs was all ripped so presume it’s been like that for a while. Living room- Sofa was comfy and found after 4 days we had headrests !! That was a pleasant surprise. Window behind sofa had the lock removed meaning it couldn’t be opened. I presume it was either broken or done like that to avoid it being hit from the outside ? Bunkbed room- Compact room with small beds , bottom bunk actually on the floor, 5 drawer chest and slim wardrobe but clock supplied kept beeping so had to take batteries out. Twin room- nicely decorated but no need for additional chair in there other than to hang things on. Slim wardrobe and 5 drawer chest supplied along with mirror Main bedroom- lack of storage. Only got 2 bedside cabinets and a 5 drawer chest. No wardrobe. Appreciate lack of room as small space. Mirror mounted on the wall either needs to be hung portrait or lower down so if sitting in bed to do hair etc you can actually see yourself otherwise everything has to be done standing up. Bathroom- lovely shower but need to supply bath mat as had to use a hand towel on the floor which isn’t ideal. Sink is way too shallow and more like trying to wash in a saucer. Heated towel rail has the main switch in master bedroom but this tripped the fuse and blew all the lights in lounge and kitchen. Reported this to Lyme Bay and the state electrician is needed so not to use the towel rail. Things missing - there are no coat hooks anywhere in the property (albeit 2 over the door hooks were provided in the main bedroom after another review suggested the same ) but you can’t shut the door with them on so they remained in the floor all the time. Would be worth putting coat hooks on the wall that forms the “hallway” which is basically the back wall of the bathroom. There is no indication of the parking space for the lodge til one of the neighbours told us. Might be worth putting a sign out like Oakwood 1 has ?? Over all it was a lovely place to stay and with a few tweaks would be even better. A bit pricey for 7 days but appreciate its peak time. We’ve stayed here before but in a different lodge so have compared it against the other place and despite our first stay only sleeping 4, it was bigger, had 2 bathrooms, lots of storage , welcome pack and was the same price. Owner just needs to ensure damaged blinds are replaced and add in coat hooks, curtains , kitchen utensils and clear out the junk drawers and you will have a lovely cosy stay. It’s the details that don’t cost much but that make all the difference to those who stay.

I have booked with Sykes for many years and never before been disappointed or given a negative review.

The directions to find this property were useless. It is described as a lodge on a farm but is really a static caravan. It stood on gravel at the end of a long drive, through a caravan & motorhome park (no mention of this from Sykes). We arrived in a storm to find that nothing was provided, not even milk to make a cup of tea. The owners had assumed that we only wanted to use one bedroom & only one bed was made up. The owner rectified this. The gas cooker ignition did not work so we were supplied with a lighter. I didn't want to risk a naked flame on an unfamiliar gas oven so found instructions for the particular model on line. On the positive side it was clean (apart from heavily soiled and stained lounge carpets) and the lounge furniture and beds were quite comfortable & the bedding was clean. The kitchen was reasonably equipped. There were no instructions as to how to use anything in the accommodation; there was no information about the local area and what to do there. The living area was adequate & comfortable. The bedrooms were extremely difficult to use. Large double beds were stuffed into very small spaces with no room at all to move. Getting out of bed in the dark with only inches of space was dangerous & resulted in several bangs and bruises. They were very claustrophobic. The wardrobe sliding door did not close & the shower cubicle door was very difficult to use. The bathroom was tiny with very little space to move. We did not approach the owner. The whole place felt unfriendly with notices telling people not to go to the farmhouse but to text to make contact. I texted to tell her we were leaving early - it took her 15 hours to respond. I would not recommend this property, especially to older people. It was a very disappointing holiday and we returned home early. Certainly not what I have come to expect from Sykes over the years.

Long but needs to be said What a hidden gem!

There are literally no words to describe how lovely and pleasantly surprised we were with this place. Clean and maintained with updated modern decor, kitchen, and bathroom. Amazing bathtub and shower room! There was a great welcome folder with all the information you needed: local beaches, things to do, places to eat out, etc. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the biggest of all places. As for 5 people, the seating area did get a little tight, but that did not effect our stay at all! Key fob didn't work to access swimming pool area when we first tried it on arrival, but issue was resolved by lady looking after the place. Great quiet/peaceful resort, lovely and friendly people owners on site too. Great to have an indoor swimming pool accessible for all, plus a laundry area nearby. 2 swings on site for young children to play with, small grass areas around where the kids can run around or kick a ball around without disturbing anyone. Shame we could not make use of the outside seating area as there were covers on seats that looked quite worn out and could do with little maintenance or updating and not sure but could be a wasp problem which may need to be looked at nearby. We had a lot coming through when the door was opened on our stay, but it didn't bother us too much other than scare the kids a little. Great location, in-between Lyme Regis and Seaton. So much to do and see nearby. You would need a car to make travelling easy to and from places, although local transport is available too. If all the holiday homes in Pinewood Retreat are of a similar standard, then this will definitely be our go-to place to stay with family and friends when travelling in this area, without a doubt.

Really nice, and spacious holiday accommodation, right next to the sea, as the name suggests.

Access by a typically narrow Dorset lane, so be prepared to find passing places etc.! Well equipped generally, with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave etc. Some more drinking glasses would be useful, as all that is provided are pint beer glasses, wine glasses and champagne flutes - a set of tumblers would really help. Comfortable beds, and plenty of storage space, especially in the back bedroom. The cottage is very warm, with thick quilts - it was actually too warm when we went, during a hot spell!! There were a few issues, mainly due to inadequate cleaning. The fridge was so badly frozen that the ice box was unusable - the ice was so badly built up that the icebox door wouldn't close, and nothing could be put inside. I had to defrost the fridge to use it. Another problem was the shower. The first evening shower nearly flooded the room, as the drain was blocked, and I had to remove and clean the hair trap - Nothing says 'happy holidays' like cleaning strangers hair out of a shower!! The kettle was so badly scaled up that every drink resulted in limescale in the mugs - so I had to clean that out too! One of the serving ladles had chunks of dried food on it - not hidden in a drawer, but in the holder on the worktop. How was that not spotted? Fluffy dust build up around the bedside cabinets, a previous guest's belt left in a wardrobe . . . . . It's a shame about these niggles, because the cottage is lovely, but cleaning and checking between guests really needs addressing, especially given the 6 hour window between departure and arrival.

      Absolutely filthy.

The only clean thing in the kitchen was the dishwasher. We had to hoover when we got there and went to mop the floor but the mop was so disgusting we went to the supermarket to buy a new one. I had bought home cooked frozen meals for my 1 year old and when I went to put them in the freezer I was horrified as the freezer had so much ice which had hairs and other debris in. The mattress was disgusting and covered in stains. The bathroom was not suitable to bath a small child as we could only use one side due to the bath screen being siliconed to the bath. The water pressure was also shockingly awful. The remote for the tv was absolutely covered in goodness knows what so had to scrub the thing as was worried if my daughter touched it. The sofa was extremely uncomfortable. There are no facilities. Yes can wash clothes in the dingy outhouse. The ‘garden’ is totally uneven with a huge drop and completely overgrown so would have been extremely dangerous to take our 1 year old. Honestly the worst place I’ve ever stayed. We couldn’t cancel or try to get money back as was such a busy weekend there was no where to go so would have had to if driven home. We did leave early as it was raining all day on the second to last day and nothing to do at the cottage so had no choice but to leave
