What our customers say about their holidays

    • Michael - Verified booking

Our party of 6 (and a puppy) had a wonderful 3 night stay at Sunset Lodge over the Easter Weekend.

The location of the lodge is perfect, being next to a beautiful lake and nice grassy area for the children to play (football in our case!) We were extremely lucky with the weather so the hot tub was popular. We used the barbecue and caught a few fish too (returned to the water, didn't barbecue!). The lodge itself is very clean, well stocked with DVD's, a couple of board games, bedding and towels and the welcome basket with wine, chocolate eggs, crisps and dog treats immediately made us feel at home and put us in a great mood after our drive from Essex. The response to our request/query was almost immediate and very informative. We didn't manage to get the WiFi going (used our own phone data fine) but in our case, it did us a massive favour making the children want to be more active! You need to purchase the entertainment pass (£35 total for all guests in our lodge) as you are asked to show them for pretty much everything if you want to venture over to the clubhouse/restaurants/shops/arcade/etc. We had a couple of lovely meals there and our children enjoyed the football court and arcade especially. There is only one guarded entry/exit point (unless you want to climb over pretty high gates), so we felt very comfortable leaving our eldest to have a bit of freedom within the boundary (if that's freedom!). Our favourite place was the lodge though. We would definitely love to return one day. Lincolnshire is a beautiful place going by the drives we went on. We highly recommend a trip to Wild Pines (35/40 mins North) if you have any budding climbers in the family/party. It's a high ropes experience which we (ages 7 to 40) loved. It's very well explained and organised and the staff are first class. Again the weather helped. All in all, we had such a great time and I'm sure you will too. Michael and family. Heron Lodge is superb.

The lodge is modern, comfortable and beautifully presented - a real credit to the owners. Its about a 10 minute drive from Spilsby and sits in open countryside. The lodge itself is about 150m away from the road down a gravel driveway. The open plan layout works well and the lodge felt very spacious although the single bedroom lacks much hanging space and could maybe benefit from some blackout curtains unless you appreciate early starts. The lodge is very well equipped and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into what guests might need, especially the little 'extra' things such as a picnic basket and binoculars to borrow, spare batteries for the TV remote, notepaper, magnifying glass, plenty of information about the area and its attractions as well as a good selection of books, magazines, DVDs and games for any wet days. It just creates a feeling that everything you might need for a self-catering break is there, including all the things you have forgotten. There was also tea, coffee, milk and cake to greet us with, much appreciated. The real attraction are the 20+ acres of grounds the Lodge sits in and in which guests are able to wander along the mown paths maintained by the owner. The grounds are a little steep in places (but no problem for an 84 year old) and consist of woodland, meadow and four small lakes. A stroll through these grounds observing the wildlife (deer, rabbit, partridge, pheasant, owls and of course Heron amongst others) is a great way to end a Spring day. All in all, can't recommend Heron Lodge highly enough and hope to return one day. Many thanks to the owners for helping to provide a very memorable break

Heron Lodge is in a secluded spot where only the occupants and the owners have access to the lakes and the woodland.

There is a wide, gently sloping grassed area at the front of the lodge where my teenage boys loved playing foorball and cricket. We had access to fish in the closest lake which pleased my 15 year old son. In the house, there is a good selection of outdoor games equipment in the boot room,, and a good selection of board games, books, and DVDs. The lodge is immaculate, in both cleanliness and decor. It is light and spacious, and the kitchen is very well equipped. The owners have provided plenty of good information about the area and although the property feels secluded, it is in close proximity to the small market town of Spilsby. Milk, sugar, teabags and coffee, plus a Plum Loaf, were thoughtfully provided on our arrival. The owners Andy and Denise were very approachable and friendly. I don't have any critical comments to make at all - other than keep your eyes peeled for the entrance, which is off quite a busy, speedy B-Road - there are a few properties with a similar address and the entrance to the gravel drive is upon you very quickly. Perhaps maybe a metal heron at the top of the drive?

My husband and I spent a week at Heron Lodge at the beginning of October 2021.

The property was perfect for us in every way. Beautifully situated away from the road, along a long gravel drive, very quiet and private, with lovely views over the grounds. Every effort to ensure our comfort had been considered with great attention to detail. Despite being spacious and open- plan it was very warm and cosy. It was extremely well-equipped and very clean, with all necessary Covid sanitation precautions taken. We used the Lodge mainly as a base for walking in the area to gain access to the start of our daily countryside and coastal walks without having to drive too far. Denise and Andy, the owners who lived on site further up the drive, were lovely - very helpful yet considerate of our privacy. We very much appreciated their welcome pack containing tea, coffee, milk and plum bread loaf. The fact that we plan to return in the future says it all. In a word ... superb!

On first impressions the lodge appeared very nice.

You need to point out to future guests that the fishing peg is at the other side of the lake and NOT in front of the cabin which is what it implies on the description of the cabin. My husband is recovering from major trauma injuries and had to ask a neighbouring lodge if he could use their peg which luckily he could as otherwise he would have been unable to fish. The oven was left with the previous occupiers remnants of a meal which I had to clean before I could use it. The bedding needs replacing ie. quilts as they are very cheap and just slide about in the cover resulting in a balled quilt when trying to sleep. The outside of the cabin was nice although the garden table could have done with a good scrub as it was filthy as were the windows. If the points above could be addressed I would consider staying here again..
