North Lodge is a charming cottage in Grasmere, praised for its excellent location and beautiful gardens. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms with ensuites, and the cosy living room with a wood-burning stove. While some guests mention the need for updates and better cleaning, the property's character and proximity to local amenities make it a popular choice for a Lake District holiday.
Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property clean and tidy, while others reported issues with cobwebs, dust, and general maintenance. The inconsistency leads to a slightly above average score.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to Grasmere village, local pubs, and walking routes. The convenience and scenic setting contribute to a high score in this category.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the living spaces cosy, particularly noting the wood-burning stove. However, some reviews mention that the furniture and mattresses could be updated, which affects the overall comfort score.
The cottage is well-equipped with kitchen appliances, laundry facilities, and a secure garden. Nonetheless, guests have suggested improvements in shower functionality, heating efficiency, and kitchen layout, indicating room for enhancement in facilities and maintenance.
There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as it pertains to gifts or welcome packs. While some guests expressed disappointment at the lack of basic kitchen products, there is no mention of gifts to warrant a score.
This delightful, Victorian lodge is set back from the Ambleside to Keswick road under Butter Crags, on the outskirts of Grasmere. Enjoying good views and a lovely garden, North Lodge offers a fabulous escape for families or two couples eager to explore this magnificent National Park in Cumbria. It is wonderfully presented throughout, with bright colour schemes and plush furnishings, making the most of an ideal setting. Enter through the front door into the cosy sitting room, where beamed ceilings and a green slate fireplace provide a welcoming atmosphere, along with plush settees and a flatscreen TV for entertainment. Move into the cottage-style kitchen where the chef of the group can relish in some home-cooking, with all the appliances, cooking utensils and crockery you could need for a self-catered break. Head upstairs to find two wonderfully presented bedrooms, including a double and twin, both with crisp white bed linen and en-suite facilities, so there is no queueing in the morning! Begin your morning in the well-maintained garden, before strolling into Grasmere village to source the ingredients for a hearty breakfast. Get to know your surroundings further by following the footpaths from the door which will take you up the little fells of Helm Crag and Loughrigg, or you can embark on a journey through Dora’s Field, a delightfully open woodland which was once owned by William Wordsworth. Travel south to Ambleside to find a great selection of amenities and attractions including the scenic waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force and the Ambleside Roman Fort, before visiting the town of Bowness-on-Windermere, home to the popular World of Beatrix Potter attraction where you can see her children’s stories come to life. Lake Windermere is also a must-visit, which is best explored on board the iconic cruiser. North Lodge is a charming dwelling, offering a homely base for all types of Lake District excursions.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Short walk to Swan Inn, comfy bed, plenty of storage space, hangers, cutlery, crockery. tv, electric shower, hot water all fine. Bin bags, j cloth, sponge, dishwash tablets, hand wash, 2 loo rolls provided. Take everything else yourself. It is a very old place with beams, nooks, crannies and naturally attending cobwebs. Constructive feedback: needs new cooker immediately. Itâs rusty and filthy. Large chunks of black carbonised food in it, not been cleaned for a while. The dark green colour in the sitting room could do with being much lighter to reflect what bit of natural light gets in to brighten the room. Cleaning lets this property down. Reported cooker when there.

Good size. Comfortable clean beds and bathrooms. Nice garden, secure for dogs. Unfortunately though the cleaner let it down, in sitting room spiders and cobwebs on show and taking a closer look behind furniture it was very dusty and cobwebs. Behind the headboard in double room the same, didnât look behind the singles, enough! The doorway leading out from kitchen to garden I swept as grubby and cobwebs. Loose stones in garden which could have been dangerous, I moved one to a standing position. The weather was so poor we only used the garden once. On to the very old TV, given the British weather a smart TV would have been good, not many channels available and small screen, poor connection most days due to rain. No washing up liquid. The mop to clean floors was filthy and old. The negative comments are a shame but easily rectified.

We visit the Lakes every summer. This was our first stay in Grasmere, it has quickly become one of our favourites spots. We pretty much parked the car up and walked out from North Lodge each day, the town had lots of choice for places to eat following a days walking. We found North Lodge as described, very comfortable and clean. A very charming Lakeland cottage, we found it a perfect set up for an enjoyable weeks break. An easy short walk from the town. Felt very private and relaxing, with a secure garden area, very well maintained and beautifully in bloom when we visited. We look forward to being able to return, so much more left for us to explore in this area.
