A short drive will take you to the historic Alnwick Castle, a filming location for the Harry Potter series, followed by a stroll through the beautiful Alnwick Gardens, home to one of the world's largest wooden tree houses, Lilidorei. Continue your journey back in time with a short walk to the magnificent Warkworth Castle, a walk along the river or to eat at one of the pubs, cafes or restaurants before heading down to the sandy oasis of Warkworth Beach for an afternoon of sun-soaked relaxation. There a number of other sandy beaches within a short drive including Alnmouth, Amble, Embleton, Bamburgh and Druridge Bay - this also features a play park and lake with water sports. Lying in the loop of the River Coquet on the Heritage Coast, Warkworth is a picturesque village, dominated by the dramatic ruins of its 12th century castle. The history of the village and the castle are intertwined with the Percy Family who took over the castle in 1332. The Percys’ other home is nearby Alnwick Castle, most recently associated with Harry Potter as the film location of Hogwarts School. The main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses and there is an exceptional range of galleries, antiques shops, a village shop/Post Office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops to suit all tastes. Warkworth has its own stretch of sandy beach and a 9 hole pay and play golf course. Also within easy touring distance are Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, several wonderful beaches and Alnwick Garden with its remarkable water cascade and Tree House Restaurant.
