Guests say

The White House in Cartmel is a spacious property with a large, secure garden, ideal for dogs and children. Guests appreciate its central location, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen, particularly enjoying the AGA cooker. The property's character and ample parking are also praised. While some guests feel the decor could be refreshed and the check-in/check-out times adjusted, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

The property is generally found to be clean and well-presented, with guests commenting positively on its tidiness. However, a few minor issues such as a broken casserole dish upon arrival and a lack of hand soap in one bathroom were noted.

The location is highly praised for its convenience and proximity to local amenities in Cartmel. The village's charm and the property's easy access to the Lake District's attractions contribute to the high rating.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the house spacious, offering both communal and private spaces. Some guests mention that certain furniture could be more comfortable for the number of guests the property accommodates.

The property is well-equipped, with a particularly appreciated AGA cooker and ample parking. However, guests suggest that some aspects of the property would benefit from refurbishment and maintenance, such as the heating system and Wi-Fi connectivity.

While guests mention the provision of essential items and appreciate the practicality of the property, there is no specific mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

Nestled in the heart of Cartmel, which is famed for being one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District, this beautiful, detached house overlooks glorious grounds and the priory, just over two-miles from Grange-over-Sands. The White House is one of the oldest properties in the village, boasting many of its original features and elegant furnishings taking you back in time, including a beautiful stained glass window on the staircase. It is well-suited to families and large groups looking to make the most of Cumbria's fabulous walking country and England's longest lake, Lake Windermere. Spend your down time in the spacious sitting room and take in your surroundings where you'll find lots of interesting objects catching your eye as you relax in front of the open fire on a cool winter's night. The living room wraps around to the snug area, where you can choose to take yourself away from the group for a quiet read, and French windows open out onto the sunny patio. Cook up a storm for the whole family in the well-equipped kitchen. There is a breakfast table in the kitchen for enjoying your first coffee of the day whilst you read the newspaper, with a more formal dining room resting next door. Find the snug/library room a handy addition for the kids to entertain themselves for a few hours, while you catch up with the adults and discuss plans for the day ahead. Upstairs, you have four well-presented bedrooms, with the master bedroom offering a super king-size bed, its own en-suite bathroom and beautiful views over the garden to wake up to. Outside, the well-maintained garden offers an extensive lawn for the children to run around with their four-legged friends, while you enjoy the delights of the fruit orchard or games on the lawn. You can even indulge with a refreshing glass of wine on the patio followed by alfresco dining on a long summer's evening. Visit one of the local pubs for a pint of real ale, explore the gift shops and don't forget to try a taste of the famous sticky toffee pudding at the Cartmel Village shop. Find yourself enjoying the seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands and take advantage of all the fun-packed attractions close by, such as the Lakeland Motor Museum and Holker Hall and Gardens. Further afield, you have the stunning lake at Windermere with boat cruises and plenty of amenities within the town itself, as well as plenty of walking and cycling opportunities. The White House is a fantastic retreat to be enjoyed all year-round.

Very enjoyable stay - the house was warm and welcoming.

Big property so when the kids and grandkids came to stay for the weekend we had plenty of space. Glorious garden - the best ever. Brill parking which is great in Cartmel. The only odd thing was some stuff felt short for such a big house. On the weekend we didn’t have enough mugs to have one lot in the dishwasher and one in use, only 3 teaspoons, no milk or a welcome pack on arrival and small towels. Plus I hate being made to strip beds before you leave even worse when you’ve got to be out by 9 am. All that said we would very happily return. It’s beautiful and we had a wonderful short break. Great location. Loved it!
