Guests say

Shepherds Retreat is consistently praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and idyllic location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the thoughtful touches from the hosts, including welcome gifts. The cottage's proximity to walking trails and scenic views adds to its charm, making it a highly recommended stay in the Peak District.

Reviewers frequently mention the spotless condition of the cottage, indicating a high standard of cleanliness that contributes to the overall comfort and appeal of the property.

The property's location is celebrated for its tranquillity and convenience, with easy access to local attractions, walking trails, and market towns, making it an ideal base for exploring the Peak District.

Guests describe the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with underfloor heating and a wood burner adding to the homely atmosphere. The comfortable furnishings and peaceful setting ensure a relaxing stay.

The cottage is well-appointed with a fully equipped kitchen, quality bedding, and entertainment options like Netflix. While most guests are satisfied, a few minor issues with maintenance and preferences, such as the desire for a dishwasher or a larger bed, slightly affect the score.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident in the provision of welcome gifts such as wine and eggs, as well as the helpful welcome book. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it is noted that such gifts are a kind bonus and not a guaranteed amenity.

Ideal for walking and cycling straight out of the door.

  • Margaret

Fully equipped and exceptionally clean. The underfloor heating was an added bonus. Ideally situated for walks directly from the cottage and just a short drive to Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and nearby picturesque villages. We can highly recommend this cottage, one of the best we have stayed in over the years.

  • Kathy

Its in an excellent setting so close to many of the beautiful Derbyshire hills and dales. Alison is a friendly and helpful host who is happy to chat about their farm life, and the local walks and eating places. We have stayed in Owl Barn and Hay Barn with our family but Shepherd's Retreat was perfect for just the two of us.
