Swallows Nest in Cornwall receives praise for its modern, cosy style, well-equipped kitchen, and underfloor heating, making it a warm winter retreat. The garden is appreciated by pet owners, and the property's proximity to coastal paths and local amenities is a highlight. Some guests mention thoughtful touches like a welcome pack, though these are not guaranteed for every stay.
Most guests found Swallows Nest to be clean and well-maintained, though there were a few instances where cleanliness did not meet expectations, such as unemptied bins and dusty surfaces. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.
The location is highly regarded for its tranquillity, proximity to the beach, and local walks. It's a short drive to popular destinations like St Ives and Penzance, making it an ideal base for exploring West Cornwall.
Guests generally find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of the luxury of underfloor heating and the cosiness of the living spaces. However, some guests noted the beds were too firm and the downstairs bedroom was chilly.
The property is well-furnished with a particularly well-equipped kitchen. However, there are comments about the need for additional coat racks, better heating instructions, and some maintenance issues like non-working light bulbs and shower hoses needing replacement.
While some guests appreciated welcome packs and the provision of throws, these gestures are not consistently mentioned across reviews to confidently assess the category of thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score.

Unfortunately, this time, we noticed a decline in cleanliness and maintenance of the property. On arrival, although the floors had been washed, there was a lot of wet puddles, resulting in soggy socksâ¦..as we always remove our outdoor shoes on entering. We had to mop up in the lounge and kitchen. There wasnât any clean tea towels, only three wet dirty ones, which I had to wash before use. There was hardly any toilet paper on the roll holders to use before we did a shop. Weâve always had a full unused one previously, and itâs not hygienic to use someone elseâs leftovers. There wasnât any antibacterial hand wash in the downstairs bedroom shower room. The bedroom also had cobwebs and lots of dirt and dust behind the bedside tables and on skirting boards. It looks like it hasnât been cleaned for months. Also, more importantly, the outside bedroom wall has black mould spores going quite a long way up. I know that can be contributed to people not using the shower room fan or opening windows, but it does need treatment. Itâs not healthy to sleep in these conditions. The dining room carpet has quite a few stains, which could easily be cleaned. Also, the door into the garden was very difficult to open, we had to oil the lock after several attempts. I think both bathrooms need the tiles re-grouting as theyâre looking quite grubby. There also needs to be a privacy blind in the upstairs bathroom. We had to cover the bottom half of the window with a towel! We also missed the usual complimentary cream tea on arrival, which was a godsend after a long journey. Would rather have gone without the huge bag of sugar, handful of tea bags, coffee and biscuits.

Very well equipped, clean and warm. The enclosed garden was great for our dog. Weâve already booked to return next summer. Thank you.

Itâs really peaceful, very well maintained and with a really well equipped kitchen, making cooking at home really easy. The back garden was great, just a pity it doesnât have a barbecue. Communication with Sykes was easy and they were very efficient at replying to any questions/queries. Previous comments about the hardness of the upstairs bed was not something we encountered at all and in fact the beds were extremely comfortable. Only things to be aware of is that the house is a fair bit darker than what one sees on the website and also to note that there really isnât any view to talk about from the windows but other than that a great property!
