What our customers say about their holidays

    • Richard - Verified booking

We had car trouble on the journey down and all week while we were there but that's enough of that .

When we arrived we were met by Robin and Fred his dog he made friends with our dog toby when we entered the cottage it was brilliant it had everything we needed Robin made us welcome from the start . we found it just as advertised immaculate with all mod cons as the week went on we had car troubles all week eventually having to hire car to come home. as a result my wife Glenis had to spend most of our holiday at the cottage with our dog toby whilst I was tripping off to spend half my day in garages . But this didn't stop us enjoying our stay, Robin was very helpful and helped us as much as possible, As a result we didn't see much of Cornwall it was because the cottage with all its grounds being such a good place to stay we still enjoyed what could have been a holiday nightmare. It will certainly be a holiday to remember we will certainly recommend this cottage as one of the best places we have visited . Our thanks to Robin and Fred for making us welcome . Richard and Glenis and Toby from Huddersfield.

Rustic and cosy cottage off the beaten track and perfect for couples wanting peace and quiet.

We stayed for a week over Christmas and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay as well as our dog. Huge outdoor space and enclosed garden to let our dog explore off lead. Well equipped, wood and kindling for log burner supplied for the week. There is also central heating and radiators in each room. Cleaning products supplied, toilet rolls etc as well as towels. There was also a pint of milk in the fridge, biscuits, tea & coffee and fresh flowers. Water was hot and plentiful and hot for washing up and for showering. There is also a table top dishwasher but we washed the dinner plates and saucepans by hand. Robin was helpful and gave us a tour of the cottage on arrival but was not intrusive (he lives next door). There was plenty of room to park our vehicle on a gravelled hardstand. We would recommend The Old Engine House and certainly re-visit.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the cottage with our 7 month old puppy and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old Engine House.

Robin was the perfect host and his dog Fred, was super friendly. The large garden surrounding the property was perfect for our dog - he was able to run around and explore freely which meant we could feel relaxed, and it was great for him to have an older and wiser dog to be friends with! The cottage kitchen was very well equipped and everything was really clean - we cooked every evening as lots of places were still closed due to Covid restrictions and found everything in the kitchen that we needed. The bedroom was very comfortable with a good king sized bed. The location was a perfect based for exploring local walks but also easy access to head off on longer day drips all round Cornwall. After nearly 6 months in lockdown 3 - the Old Engine House was the perfect change of scenery.

We didn't really know what to expect from a cottage which was formally an Engine room, but it was amazing.

We've stayed in lots of cottages over the last 40 years and this has to be one of the best equipped cottages we stayed in, even to being able to make my sister a surprise birthday 'cake'. It was comfortable, with little personal touches like the bedside lights made by Robin (the owner). Fred the dog was very friendly and funny, greeting us each day like one of the family. The location of the cottage is ideal for visiting so many of Cornwall's land marks as well as some not so well known places. At the end of our stay we purchased some of Robin's home made goodies - jams, jellies, sausages etc which we thoroughly recommend! All in all we had a great holiday, even the weather was lovely, and we look forward to going back.

We loved the property we stayed at, very dog friendly and ideally located for seeing all that Cornwall has to offer, whilst being sufficiently off the beaten track t feel like we were in an oasis of tranquility.

Robin and Fred were welcoming but never intrusive and made our dog (and us) incredibly welcome. Loved the finishing touches - milk and biscuits for our arrival along with some lovely flowers. Robin also passed us some of the goodies from his garden which were delicious. Someone has commented previously there is a dust track to the property, however we found no issues by simply driving slowly and staying to one side in our Punto. The drive to Bodmin and the main road network was about 10 minutes. We would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting an escape from the rat race, especially with the ideal location.
