    Holiday Cottages in Mousehole

Once donned 'the loveliest village in England' by poet Dylan Thomas, Mousehole (pronounced 'Mowzel') offers a quintessentially Cornish holiday break. Situated right on West Cornwall's South West Coast Path, the rollercoaster of rugged clifftop paths will suit dog owners and keen walkers. Meanwhile, Mousehole Harbour has to be one of the most beautiful in the county, with its smattering of colourful fishing boats, and narrow streets lined with white-washed cottages.

Our holiday homes in Mousehole, Cornwall, are ideally situated for a perfect seaside getaway. If you're looking for a romantic break, why not browse our snug lodges and stone-built cottages, and relax in your own private hot tub. Or if you're bringing your furry friend, our dog-friendly Mousehole cottages come complete with enclosed gardens and access to plenty of long walks along sandy beaches. From large family farmhouses to couples retreats, our Cornish holiday cottages cover it all.

The best thing about our Mousehole holiday cottages is that they all come with a best price guarantee, as well as special discounts and offers. We have availability throughout the year, so as well as enjoying Mousehole's balmy summer sea views, you can also experience a gorgeous Cornish Christmas. The multi-coloured Christmas lights that illuminate Mousehole's harbour wall are renowned for their gaudy elegance, and are well worth a winter seaside break.

    More locations in Cornwall

From the heart of Mousehole, it doesn't take long to reach some of Cornwall's most iconic locations. The spectacular Minack Theatre and rugged Lizard Point are two of our favourites, or you could try these holiday spots for a bit of variety.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Confirmed Guest - Verified booking

Not upto the standards usually expected from Rural Retreats. Mousehole is a pretty Cornish fishing village, which makes it a good base for a holiday. Access to the cottage is via a very tight road, into which one has to reverse carefully to avoid the cars parked by residents at the top of the road. We had to park a quarter of a mile up the road, because it is not possible to park in front of the cottage, and the quayside car parks were full. We visited during a hot week in July, but the night storage heaters in the cottage were on full blast, with the controls in a locked cupboard. We asked the housekeeper for a fan, which could not be provided, and rang Rural Retreats who asked us to go and buy one, so we had to get it from Argos in Penzance. We were able to get the housekeeper to turn off the night storage heaters two and a half days into the holiday (not disturbing them over the weekend). The door from the bedroom into the living room opens inwards, and on three occasions, we inadvertently opened it outwards, jamming the door and trapping us in the bedroom. It required some force to unjam the door- this definitely needs to be re-hung. In addition to this, one evening the front door lock broke, so we had to wait in two hours for the locksmith, when instead we could have gone out. The kitchen and bathroom are well appointed, but there is no microwave - so take this into account when planning your meals. The lack of a garden and an outdoor sitting space are slight drawbacks, as is the tendency of vans from the telephone company, water company and builders to park directly in front of the front window for hours at a stretch, completely blocking the view. There is no recycling bin, so by the second half of the week, half of the kitchen floor was full of cardboard, cans and bottles. Come on Rural Retreats, you can do much better. For the same price, we have, in the past, rented much better properties.

This charming cottage in the picturesque village of Mousehole had everything we needed. Although it’s quite small, it suited us very well. It’s handily located for access to all amenities. We found the kitchen to be extremely well equipped and we particularly appreciated the Ipod docking station, as well as the welcome food hamper, together with details such as the fresh flowers and a selection of toiletries. This is a lovely cottage for two people who want to get away from it all. The front door opens directly on to the lane and so there was some traffic noise but the window blinds afforded the necessary privacy. The streets of Mousehole are very narrow in places and parking space is at a premium. There is room to unload your car at the property but the lane itself is a cul de sac and there was no turning space for our large saloon. Lots of walking opportunities nearby but no chip shop!

We stayed at kemyel Mill House from 13th-20th September 2024 Beautiful country side building which could be stunning. Let down by the cleanliness and neglect (cleaner came in after complaining but we unfortunately we found more after she had left). Mold around bath, dust, dirt and cobwebbs everywhere, dirty freezer, smelly fridge, dirty and stained floors etc. Could do with new sofa's. The beds are lovely and comfortable although slats are not fixed on single beds. Garden table unusable as needs a lot of tlc and has plants growing out of it. The "stunning 360 summerhouse" as advertised is dangerous and also unusable as wood is rotting and is covered in green mildew and does not turn. We complained twice during our stay regarding the garden furniture but had NO response at all regarding this. It is such a shame because this is really a beautiful but neglected property.

Lovely little cottage, very well equipped and great, generous welcome hamper. The only thing we would add is that, being all on the ground floor and giving straight onto the street, both the lounge and bedroom windows are in need of either slatted blinds, split shutters or even just voile panels, as people are constantly looking in as they pass and we like to lie in bed with a cuppa reading on holiday but had to do this with the main blind down and lights on because there was no privacy. Also getting changed to go out in the evening etc required putting the main blind down and lights on. Not ideal! Apart from that it was perfect! Great location and some great restaurants/eateries within a few minutes walk. Parking in Mousehole is a constant nightmare though.

Advertising: no mention of washing machine and microwave. We even bought a microwave from Argos on our way through Penzance - which we took back the next day!!! Condition: 2 rugs on shabby side compared with rest of house which was spotless. Equipment: night storage heaters - not easy to anticipate settings for following days weather - especially bedroom. Apart from these, the location is perfect and it was lovely to have a real fire. The bathroom was very clean with good shower and very good flushing toilet. The housekeeper was very helpful and quick to send out a plumber when we had a 'slight problem with the washing machine'!!!!!!!! We would stay here again and recommend it to family and friends.
