What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ian - Verified booking

We really enjoyed staying at Mole Cottage and thought that it offered good value for money for the week in February that we chose.

It is furnished nicely and described quite accurately on most counts and well provided with kitchen equipment. It had evidently had a decor refresh through the preceding weeks and was in great condition and very clean. Quite small and possibly could be challenging space-wise having 4 people in the property. A few thoughts; 1. The welcome pack with Scones and Shortbread was a nice gesture and much appreciated. 2. It might be worth having someone switch on the heating (or at the very least leave it on 14 celsius tickover) ahead of guests arriving in the Winter mpnths - it took two days to get the place reasonably warm, thereafter it was fine and warm. 3. Parking - We think the issues around car parking in Mousehole should be made more conspicuous in the listing as even in Winter we had trouble getting parked some evenings. In Summer it must be an absolute nightmare and we would have been very disappointed if this had not been made clear beforehand. The prospect of having to use the Mousehole bus and park in Penzance would not have been well received. 4. Stairs - I think greater emphasis in the listing should also be given to the steps, the lower stairs and their steepness. The listing does mention this but it needs greater emphasis. The stairs from the living area down to the kitchen / bathroom are very narrow and steep, as are the entrance steps. We are both very fit, able bodied people yet we felt that anyone who was in any way limited in their physical confidence or mobility would really struggle to cope with these stairs and front steps, this should be very clearly highlighted. There is no way to avoid the lower stairs as they are the only access to the kitchen and bathroom. Likewise if we had had young children these stairs would have presented a considerable risk. This needs to be explicitly clear in the listing. However, Mole Cottage is in a great location in Mousehole, quiet, comfortable and very clean. Taking the above points into consideration we would recommend but only to able bodied guests or those with children aged perhaps 8 upwards. It is not suitable for anyone with any mobility issues or who is not confident about using steep stairs or steps.

An immaculate, characterful property a stone's throw from Mousehole harbour.

The double bedroom is bright and airy, with a comfy bed and a lovely view (from the quaint diddy side window) over to the craggy rocks of St Clement's Isle. The living room somehow managed to find the balance between cosy and pleasantly spacious too. There was a very thoughtful welcome package with a pint of milk and sweet treats left for me. Sadly, since I'm vegan, I wasn't able to enjoy these -- but the gesture was appreciated! There's a great deli and cafe just over the street from the property, and the village offers a small but mighty selection of venues for dining and drinks. Newlyn, just up the road via the regular Mouse bus, also has some great little foodie spots too. Potential guests with mobility issues should bear in mind the steepness of the stairs up to the front door and the stair journey that's needed to access the kitchen and bathroom. One small niggle was having to turn the hot water and heating on/off manually every time it was needed. The electric bin lid in the kitchen didn't seem to be working also, though these things can happen of course. However, my overall stay was a pleasure and I'd most definitely head back in a heartbeat!

The cottage, location was as expected and we had a lovely time.

Our only 'gripe' was not with the accommodation but with the building work being carried out on the roof of the next cottage. Monday through to Friday at 08.00 each day, BBC radio 6 music was aired to all and sundry in Cherry Garden Street (and beyond) and was audible in every room at Mole Cottage. Luckily we had planned to get up around this time and did so with a nice cup of tea in bed in readiness for the day ahead. That said the music was also occasionally accompanied by the builder regularly clearing the phlegm from his lungs onto what we hoped would be some vessel of sorts (and not the roof). As you can imagine, having being woken at 8 am and then drinking our tea to the accompaniment of these sounds was, in our opinion rather inconsiderate and we wondered what other guests might have made of this if they were looking forward to getting up later or planned to stay at the accommodation during the day.

Unfortunately there was a serious leak under the kitchen sink caused by a burst expansion chamber which meant that we had to shut the water valve off and deal with the initial emergency ourselves by disconnecting plugs which had been soaked through.

This left us without drinking water overnight and the fridge had to be disconnected. The property owner arranged for a plumber as quickly as possible for the next day but in the meantime we had to clean up the flooded units and kitchen floor our selves in the meantime and hot water couldn’t be restored until two days later as the plumber told us he had to order in the right part first. We allowed the sockets time to dry out before reconnecting but even then we werent confident from a safety point of view. Unfortunately this did effect our experience and given what the plumber told us about the condition of the part that had blown and the hot water unit we wouldnt feel confident returning to the cottage as nice as it is in terms of location cleanliness and comfort.

We had a wonderful week at Trungle cottage.

The cottage was beautiful, very tastefully decorated, comfortable and inviting. It had a very well equipped kitchen and it was lovely to light the coal fire on an evening. The location was perfect for a walk down to Mousehole and within easy reach to other places of interest. The hosts left milk and some biscuits and a fresh flowers were a nice touch. Thank you. The stunning cove of Porthcurno is only 8 miles away and well worth a visit. The walk over the cliff tops from Porthcurno Beach to Porthgwarra It’s breathtaking and takes you past it’s secluded Cove Porth Chapel. This is definitely a place we will go back to.
