We stayed here as a couple wanting a relaxing, get away from it all weekend, we couldn’t have asked for more.

Firstly the location of the Cottage was perfect, it’s set in the grounds of the owners home and offers a multitude of walks from right outside your door, and much to our feet,IG hot we had the privilege of walking with sheep! Within a short driving distance is probably our most favourite Market Town, Shrewsbury with its amazing indoor Market and an abundance of independent shops and eateries. Closer to home there are quite a few pretty villages with pubs too, but during COVID restrictions, recommend booking. Most importantly the Cottage itself was beautifully appointed, modern, contemporary, and cleaned to a very high standard, it has all you’d need for a cosy night in. Every convenience to prepare a meal, a very nice coffee maker and wine fridge. It made for a perfect evening snuggled up next to the log burner, watching the smart TV or listening to the blue tooth music system. Alternatively, it’s a couple of steps from the door into the bubbling hot tub, completely private and set in a very prettily decorated outdoor area with an overhead pergola and lights, perfect even on a cold winter night, we relaxed in it to our hearts content. The host was exceptionally welcoming, the Cottage festively decorated, there was a delicious welcome pack, the bread was still warm and delicious! and the fire was lit. He was on hand with very helpful advice of local area, and for any queries we had, nothing was too much trouble. For us it was a 10/10 experience and if we are planning to return, it will be the first place we look for availability.

We've used Sykes before and stayed in Stockbatch Granary also on the Pitchford Estate in 2022.

We therefore knew what to expect from the description of the farm track to the property. It was actually much better than we thought and perfectly OK if car has decent ground clearance and you take it slowly. Yes your car will get mucky but the roads around are mucky too. It was so fabulous to be somewhere so peaceful during 'firework week'. We didn't hear a single bang so great for our dogs. The garden was secure/enclosed enough for our dogs who are larger and don't tend to wander but smaller dogs or escape artists would get through the railings. We enjoyed being able to walk from the door although sadly one footbridge through the woods was damaged. Walking around the estate lake was a nice stroll with autumn colour. Sadly clouds meant no dark skies but with zero light pollution I'd imagine this is a great place for stargazing. Bit of a drive to any pubs but most seemed Dog Friendly. The Pound does fabulous pies. If I'm being super picky another sofa would be good if 4 adults in the property but we made do. Contrary to a previous review, there is a microwave (the top oven is a combi). Would definitely return, the garden would be a great suntrap in the summer. Easy to clean although a mop would have been useful (there was a head but no handle). Wifi was fast enough for me to do a couple of days work and for streaming catchup TV on the freesat.

In general I felt that the property was very well equipped and I enjoyed my stay here.

Pros: - Nice little detached property, very quiet at night and peaceful, perfect for someone on their own or a couple. - Bedding and bed were fantastic and super comfortable, I slept like a log for my entire stay. - Lovely treats etc. when arriving - wine, snacks etc. were all very welcome! - Hot tub was great, very warm, private and great after a day out of walking. - Location is really good and close to Shrewsbury as well as lots of good walks in the Shropshire Hills. - House is very eco friendly and lots of thought has been given to making the property kind to the environment. - Owners were friendly, welcoming and easy to contact if there were any issues during the stay. - Easily accessible walks directly from the property. - Good takeaway and food options nearby. Lea Cross Tandoori (5m drive) and Little Efes at Minsterley (15m) were both excellent. Cons: - Sofas smelt a little damp - not a huge issue at all, probably a bit of Febreze would sort them out right away. - Parking felt a bit stretched - owners have 2-3 cars on the same drive which made turning around quite tight for a longer car, a small hatch would be easy but I struggled in a saloon. I think the owners said in a previous review they are creating more parking which would resolve the issue.

Another memorable stay at Bank House Barn.

Cosy, warm and very comfortable, we made good use of the wood burner and hot tub in the evenings. Chris and Sonya made us welcome and made sure we had everything we could possibly need. The weather was extremely kind to us during our stay so we had days out visiting Shrewsbury, wandering the picturesque streets and visiting the outdoor Market. A great place to eat is CSONS on Milk Street, the food was delicious and the young people who work there were lovely. We enjoyed visiting Tipples just long the road from Bank House Barn. A small business selling locally made spirits, wines, beers etc, plus local cheeses and all manor of delicious treats to tempt everyone who visits. Every morning we would walk along the river bank with the two dogs who live at Bank House. But first we took great delight in giving the four friendly teddy bear sheep a Rich Tea biscuit. Another fabulous stay at Bank House Barn, looking forward to the next time. I highly recommend staying at Bank House Barn, it's a wonderful place. Thank you, Chris and Sonja xx

Second time at the barn, love the remoteness and silence, no road noise is lovely.

Views around the barn are outstanding and no one bothers you. Shops are only a 20 minute drive away. The barn could do with a deep clean and a bit of paint, there was a lot of cobwebs and dead (& alive) spiders. Walls were a bit marked and window was still cracked 4 years after the first visit. Outside doors could do with a paint, guttering leaks and there are wasps in the soffits. Garden gate does not latch and blew open, garden is not secure for smaller dogs. Shower tray needs re siliconing as it has gone black. Lack of comfortable garden furniture. We bought some locally, made such a difference to be able to sit outside and read in comfort. This is not to say we didn’t have a nice time, but the property could do with a little spruce up. Maybe a new smart tv where guests could log into their own Netflix account? Don’t be put off by what I’ve written, it’s a lovely place, it just needs a bit of maintenance to get it back to 100%.
