What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caroline - Verified booking

Lovely apartment, clean, comfortable and good location.

I would have given it 5 stars but the situation re parking needs urgent addressing so I'm onky giving 3 in the hope it will help get that sorted. When we booked the adjacent pay and display car park (owned by the Harbour Authority, who also own this apartment and the others in the complex) was advertised as costing around £5 or £6 for 24 hours. We have previously used the car park when visiting Caernarvon and budgeted accordingly. However on arrival we found the car park now costs more than triple that expected cost - almost 4 times that actually. Anyone booking until this issue is sorted should bear in mind that to park in the car park daily could add almost £150 to the price of the weeks rental. There are other parking options a reasonably short walk away but we found that quite inconvenient. Really there needs to be a parking permit included in the rental cost - owners should either up the price of rental and include a parking permit or declare this hidden cost. Overall the apartment is lovely but it is very overpriced when you factor in the extortionate parking costs. The Restaurant in the complex, La Marina was really good. We thoroughly enjoyed eating there and definitely recommend. It was very quiet most nights, probably the car park pricing is having an effect there too. The caretaker at the complex was very helpful. Told us all we needed to know, a very nice man. As other reviews have stated there is no information about how to use the appliances in the apartment. We worked it out OK, buy clearly previous residents hadn't as the dishwasher was clogged up having had the detergent tablet forced into the rinse aid compartment so maybe placing some information about how to operate things will help them last longer! Would we return? Yes - if parking issue is addressed, otherwise there are better options that are more luxurious and cost less.

Chosen because of location to Welsh Highland Railway & stand alone shower.

Also walking distance to local Tesco for supplies & town centre. No hot water on arrival (we arrived late evening). Was eventually sorted out next day but not without me having to chase up Skye on (only) one phone number available. Previous occupiers had switched boiler off as per instructions in flat accommodation. Service man told us to keep it on (??). Spent first one hour and next day 1 hour cleaning (Dyson in flat smelt disgusting when used so had to open up all doors! & stopped using it). On leaving we explained to cleaner, who we met perchance. She knew aoubt Dyson & showed us her own hoover she uses! TV wouldn't work - so rebooted. Remote slow so bought replacement batteries. Clock on kitchen wall stopped so bought new batteries. Extractor fan in shower filthy & hazard - blowing out more bacteria than extracting! Fitted bedsheet too small for bed & kept coming off- so bought new flat bedsheet extra large. No blankets & cold at night so bought some cheap blankets. Sofa was very uncomfortable - lean back to watch super large tv. Couldn't use coffee table to put drinks on, as table top moves(!) leading to potential spills. Kitchen worktop space was very limited. V.difficult to even organise microwave meals. Dinner table was at least functional. No luggage racks & indeed no small tables, sideboards, no shelves in bathroom to put our toiletries & bags etc. Living off floor for a week! Was glad to leave.

Sykes Holiday Cottages has NO customer service.

We asked for the twin beds to be made as a double and it wasn’t. There was NO way to contact them and the WhatsApp messages were answered by a computer. Why is there no human being to speak to? The internet site just went round in circles and no phone number was answered. Dreadful experience. The information book was out of date and there was no paper for visitors to add comments or recommendations. There were no leaflets or where to go and what to do as we have had in other rentals. There is no shaver point: no coffee pot of any kind: no kitchen scissors: no chairs in the bedroom so nowhere to put some clothes: no hooks. We saw comments on line with the same issues and they had not been rectified. Poor! The so called garden was just some very scrubby uncut grass. The TV needed rebooting every time we used it! The outside light at the back of the property was faulty and we had to waste time waiting for a maintenance man to come and fix it. It was permanently on and the thin blinds in the bedroom were useless. The response from the maintenance team was quick and very efficient. The car park needs clear labelling as this caused issues with 3 cars for the occupants of the penthouse flat. However, the location was good and an easy walk into Caernarfon for pubs and restaurants as well as Tescos just up the road. The flat is light and spacious but basically equipped.

Excellent ground floor property, very clean and tidy with everythng needed.

No noise came through from other flats. Nicely situated for Caernarfon attractions, all within easy walking distance. Ideal also for setting off to places further afield. Road outside not busy or too noisy most of the time. Couple of very minor points whch did not affect my break: The TV refused to come on at first and there were no instructions. The information booklet mentions a Samsung TV but it is a Logik. Problem solved by unplugging and leaving off for a whle. Worked first time when plugged back in and everytime afterwards. Also good wi-fi throughout, good enough to watch football on Laptop in HD. The road was generally quiet but occasionally a car with a loud exhaust would speed past in the early hours. No great problem to me. A kitchen waste caddy was mentioned in the information but I could not find one. Anyyway, apart from such very minor things, I reall enjoyed myself, Thank you very much.

      The property is exceptional!

Modern, spacious and comfortable. An absolute bargain for the price. We couldn’t believe how cheap it was for such an amazing place. Everything was spotlessly clean. Bed was massive and so comfortable. The kitchen was more than well-equipped with real quality items. Wi-Fi was fast and reached all areas that we needed it to. There were a few small issues however they didn’t detract from our enjoyment of staying. Please don’t take this as criticism. The property is obviously new and there will always be teething problems. The shower needs looking at as we could only get it to be either freezing cold or boiling hot. We would have liked a few more towels. Also the 2 blue bath towels were not were absorbent at all. May be because they are new. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. We absolutely loved it and will definitely stay again.
