What our customers say about their holidays

    • Julie - Verified booking

      Never Again.

We have been holidaying in Cornwall for over 20 years and this is the first time we have been so badly treated. We booked the Kerensa as it looks so lovely, and reviews good. However my wife’s father was taken seriously ill and we asked, 6 weeks ago (giving plenty of time to re-let) whether we could cancel or move the booking to any time next year and obviously pay any extra. The answer was ‘no’ on both counts. So we left it. Then my father in law became critical , so we tried again, this time we heard nothing, charming. My wife’s father died less than a week before Xmas. However we continued to get emails from Sykes saying ‘hope you have a good time’, and then, ‘did you have a good time’. When we contacted Sykes, during this heart breaking time, we were told the emails were automated but would not have been sent had the owners notified Sykes that they were unwilling to be the slightest bit customer friendly. So we lost over £600, and had our noses rubbed in it by these emails at the saddest time in my wife’s life. Thank you. We have over the years had to move very few holiday dates, however owners on each occasion have been willing to change the date. We will not be using Sykes again, so you are losing a 3 holiday a year customer , and will be warning our many friends we have met over the years holidaying in Cornwall of this experience . Other holiday let owners we have got to know have been shocked at this situation generated by the owners and the lack of empathy from Sykes, not even an offer of the booking fee being returned. The owners have done very well out of this, as they have the full fee and yet won’t have to pay cleaner / heating etc. So well done for that, maybe the season of goodwill hasn’t reached your part of Cornwall yet. We will be looking at Cottages.com and Beach Retreats amongst others for future holidays. Neil & Julie.

Beautiful location, well equipped apartment with stunning views across St Ives.

Felt the walk down to the beaches were easy reachable and myself doing early walks around really help me get my bearings. St Ives is hilly with lots of steps but worth the visit just take your time. So many shops (my wife and twin boys have cealiac gluten allergies) which caters so well for everyone. Best fish and chips, gluten and normal is Becks in Carbis bay, worth the 5 minute drive and 20 minute wait in que…trust me. The apartment has fantastic view across St Ives and as mentioned is well equipped with fluffy towels and a set of beach towels. Kitchen is also well equipped however we took our coffee maker and this would be a nice touch to add to the facilities. Apartment is well maintained and very clean and classy. Downside. I had 2 13 yrs boys, WiFi was very ropey when we were all on, again worth owners upgrading for a small cost. As a glass frontage can get very hot and balmy at night, take fans, was a challenge sleeping even with fans provided. Likely an isolated incident but the en-suite was stinking, we hardly used it, reported it so hopefully it will get fixed. Also there is a machine that recognises condensation in both bathrooms. One was broke ruined our night (all night) with irruption of clicking for about 30 seconds at a time at Radom times, kept us awake all night one night which was too much. Again killed about a day and a half but once reported staff were superb. So any issues please report. Found it easy to find, and parking was okay. Tesco is Caribs bay about 1mile away 5 minutes in car or larger Asda in Hayle 10 minutes. Loved the stay. Shame about some issues but wouldn’t put us of coming back to St Ives and this penthouse.

      This apartment was absolutely perfect.

The amenities included really made it feel like a home from home and we could not have asked for a more well equipped property. The location was excellent for visiting St Ives either by car or train. Self check in was easy. The comfort in the property was outstanding from the very comfortable bed, pillows and lovely soft linen to the lovely big sofa in the living room. Unfortunately it rained the entire week so we couldn't use the balcony but could still enjoy the sea views from the living room. We had very bad weather whilst staying here which meant it was a bit noisy at night but nothing our ear plugs couldn't fix - if it had been sunny I doubt we would have had any issues! Shower head does spray out a bit all over the place which can leave the bathroom floor a bit wet but this could be easily resolved and certainly didn't affect our stay. Definitely recommend a stay here and we are looking to come back to the area just so we can stay in this property.

The apartment was brilliant with all the home comforts you could need and we would definitely stay again.

The location of the station was a bonus with regular trains running to connect to the mainline at St Earth. Also, it was only a 20 minute walk in to St Ives along the coast path. The views from the lounge over to Godrevy lighthouse were amazing. We felt very relaxed and comfortable during our weeks stay and didn’t really want to leave. There are only a couple of criticisms as follows:- 1. Following on from previous guests comments, there was intermittent noise from outside the bedroom window or possibly on/in the roof on a number of evenings especially when it was breezy. This is definitely a problem that needs to be resolved because it was disturbing on several occasions but wouldn’t stop us staying again. 2. The bathroom cabinet in front of the sink was in the way when having a shave or washing your face. It’s great to have the cabinet but it would be better placed else where in the bathroom. Minor criticism but I thought it was worth a mention.
