What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr John Kenyon - Verified booking

The property, Flat 4 is sold on the website, as coming with a parking place. The parking places, at the back of the property are a joke. Before arriving an email saying that the parking spot will take a small average family car, is of no use, when you've forked out over a £1000 for a flat with a parking spot. I would have struggled to park my daughters Toyota Aygo in that spot. The people in flat 5, that you rent, deliberately parked in the wrong spot, meaning no access to parking all week. When I walked up to the office to discuss the matter, I was met with complete apathy. Not interested one iota. Just go and park on the street somewhere, does not compensate for the fact that I had booked a property with a parking spot. I came away to try and de-stress and lower my blood pressure, not have to deal with the stress of finding somewhere to leave my car overnight, whilst inconsiderate clients of yours, do not follow the rules at the flats, park an oversize car, and refuse to cooperate. And before you say that the parking spot next to 4 is 7, the person in 5 blocked the car park, then later parked in 7's spot, blocking reasonable access to bay 4. There are niggles with the property that other people have mentioned in the visitors book, a hot water system that can not cope with 2 people having a shower, without running out of hot water, broken towel rails, a tv that doesn't work in the bedroom etc. The only good thing was the view, and the quick walk into town. Not the relaxing break that I was looking forward to.

This apartment is in an awful state and not worth the rental rate or the star rating from the company. Owing to the two en-suites venting any excess condensation not vented by the extractor fans into the bedrooms, both bedrooms are full of damp. All our clothes were damp all week and the smell is overpowering. There is black mould on the furnishings downstairs and black damp dust on the skirting boards. The bed has a very worn foam mattress (not memory foam) and rock hard pillows, neither of us slept well all week. The kitchen is falling apart, as is most of the furniture in the apartment, the sofas are heavily faded, fraying and covered in stains, like the carpets throughout the apartment. There are cheap and old appliances in the kitchen, the kettle was disgusting, toaster rusty, and a scrubbing brush that looked like a used toilet brush. Even the “clean” towels provided smelt of chip fat. Added to all these issues, the landlady (who lives upstairs) tried to convince us the apartment is fine as it’s in a functional state, and more concerned there might be a leak in the bathroom to fix before her friends arrived rather than the awful week we had staying in this disgusting apartment. Original cottages have failed to respond to my complaint.

Having stayed in the apartment a couple of years ago, my husband and I were hoping that it would be just as lovely as before. Thankfully the property was again spotlessly clean and the furnishings looked just as good as before. Given the fact that I was to be cooking main meals most days, I was appreciative of there being a good selection of utensils and pans. The knives were very sharp too. Although we never sat in the separate seating area, we found it very useful for storing our luggage so giving us more space in the bedroom. Of course, one of the main things that should attract anyone to the property is the view. It was wonderful being able to see the sea and the area closed to Old Harry rocks from the dining area - a much better view than you would get from most of the local eateries! The apartment would be in a great location for those holidaymakers who prefer to eat out though, as it was a short walk from the centre of town, where there was a good selection of restaurants, pubs and bars - the pier, beach and shops too. What's not to like about Flat 4 Penlu?!

Location was perfect, views over the bay & Pier was beautiful. The property is over 3 floors by the time I got to the top first time it wasn’t the steps that made me breathless it was the view, the pictures don’t do this home the justice it deserves. It was a perfect pre Christmas hide away. My other half enjoyed sketching the view & I loved cooking up a storm in the kitchen, we finished most nights at the dining table playing the games on the games shelf we had a great laugh & made many memories. The town has lots open even in November & if you have kids the Polar Express & the Christmas lights turn on was a lovely end to the holiday. We took a day trip to Corfe Castle & we went on the bus & the ride was great value some lovely shops & a couple of Art workshops if you wanted to buy from some very talented local artists. On Friday we went to the local market & Saturday the Chocolate Shop & the Art market in the beach huts. We had a lovely time & the owners check in with us on arrival by text which was appreciated.

After being initially a bit disappointed on arrival at the flat, mainly due to the location (the view from the window is a barbers and a Chinese takeaway), we realised that it actually isn't in a bad position if you don't mind walking up a steep hill. We tended to take out everything that we might need for the day and evening so we didn't have to go back too often. We aren't used to traffic noise though, so had to keep the windows closed at night which was a bit uncomfortable. The flat was well equipped with a comfortable bed and large shower. Parking was quite a problem. After managing to get a spot opposite the flat, we didn't move the car for four days. The good thing about Swanage (which we really loved) is that there are so many beautiful walks with stunning views, nice restaurants and a regular local bus service, so that once we were there, a car really wasn't needed. We missed having an outdoor area more than we thought we would, but the excellent pub, just two minutes walk away, has a garden.
