The cottage itself was absolutely beautiful - undoubtedly the most attractive cottage weâve ever stayed in - including several National Trust properties.
We very much appreciated the welcome gift of wine, milk and biscuits. There were only a couple of tiny niggles that prevented an all round âtop marksâ score - and not all are in the owners gift to remedy e.g. the fact that the Queenâs Head no longer does meals ( however the bar staff and locals were all very friendly and the recommended alternatives were excellent - but a drive away!) The outdoor seating area of the cottage was tiny (extremely curious arrangement of garden space with neighbours) and only got the sun in the morning, so fine for breakfast - but also no space for comfortable seating. We would have loved to have sat out in the evening especially since the weather gorgeous that week - also because the stone walled cottage itself was rather chilly - necessitating putting on the log burner each evening. We use a log burner at home and found the one at the cottage hard to fathom out and it felt pretty inefficient despite it being enormous. Both of us would have preferred a slightly firmer mattress but fully appreciate that peopleâs tastes differ and you canât suit everyone. Lastly we were slightly concerned by the presence of some odd spore like material on the underside of the shelves in the main bedroom wardrobe. No idea what it was but somewhat unnerving. Sorry to be so picky - especially since we were, on the whole, absolutely bowled over by the cottage - and the village. We would certainly recommend it - and have done - (albeit with the above mentioned provisos) and we wouldnât hesitate to book it again should we ever need a place to stay in the area - weâd just pack more jumpers! Thank you.

On first thoughts this cottage was clean and tidy and looks very comfortable.
I had messaged the owners for some information and they very quick to get back to me. I am sure they are lovely people. However, being woken up every morning as early as 5am by Cockerels was not pleasant! They were then being let out at about 7ish as my son would be woken up between 7-730 with one shouting at his window. The main bed was like a concrete pad with cracks in the frame, so everytime you moved it would make a noise. Also, the boil sounded like a train in the night behind the bedroom wall. If you didn't leave the boiler on, very little hot water in the morning! There generally wasn't enough hot water for 4 people to shower in the morning or night anyway. It was my fault for not reading. However, there is no washing machine at this cottage. So for us as a family of 4 and a dog for 7 nights was not practical. We have stayed in lots of cottages and this is the first one without a washing machine. The rest of the kitchen is fairly well equipped. We are from North Yorkshire and also have our own chickens and spend alot of time in the moors, so we are very much suited to country life. We are aware of current problems with wild rabbits with myxomatosis, we saw a couple while there. There was also a few dead rabbits rotting away within a few meters of the cottage. So had to be careful with the dog. (Need to be moved really) Also, not from the dead rabbits, but the first few days there was a smell of death hanging around which is very unpleasant. With all this said, we checked out 2 days early as we were all very tired from lack of sleep. For a family this cottage would be ok for a weekend, but that is it.

We stayed at Pond Cottage for a week in early August.
The Cottage was everything we wanted, comfortable, clean and the owners were very friendly and kind. The location was beautiful, we enjoyed walks down the lane, along the footpaths either to the dunes by the sea or to Alnmouth along the path to the bridge. Our two dogs loved their runs on the beach and walks along the lanes and footpaths near the farm. We miss sitting on the bench in front of the cottage in the sun admiring the view with a morning coffee. Yes it is a working farm, for us that is part of its charm. So many castles and other places to visit as well as Alnmouth within easy reach. A day trip to Edinburgh, about an hour by train from Alnmouth station was an added treat.. Pond Cottage is on our ârevisit listâ .. so much more to do and see in Northumberland. Thank you from Sara and Martyn

We had a great time staying in the Mistal for our holiday and hope to be booking it again for next year.
The cottage is exceptionally clean and comfortable and has everything you could possibly need even poobags for our dog if needed. The owner kindly left biscuits and milk as well as a vase of flowers for our arrival which was nice. The property is central for coast and country and you can get to the border of Scotland too within a short drive. We were lucky with the weather too but the cottage is a real home from home should you require it in a village which is so quiet the children can play in the street. If you wish to get away from it all and live life in the countryside this is perfect but Alnwick is only a few miles away for all you might need. There is no garden at all here though so take note should you require dog space but plenty walks from the door.
