What our customers say about their holidays

The Vault house is in a great location with all local amenities on your doorstep.

The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and even our dog was treated. The property was spotless and the decor and furniture was of a high standard. The beds were very comfortable with good quality linen and pillows. The outside area was a great addition and fantastic for families, BBQ’s and guests with dogs. We have a couple of negative points being when we stayed the weather was very good and the property gets warm. The bedroom window opens up onto a gangway at the side of the house which we was not happy leaving it open while sleeping. A couple of fans in the property would probably resolve this issue. The last point was more of an inconvenience than a negative as the outside area cannot be accessed directly from the property so you have to go out the back door onto the side street to enter from the side gate. This meant locking up every time we went to the garden. Like I said it’s an inconvenience more than anything else. I would definitely recommend the Vault House to anyone looking for a relaxing break that is in a great location to explore the wonders of Northumberland.

We had a wonderful week here.

The cottage are grade 2 listed converted stables so don’t expect a square box with double glazing. Yes it was a tad cold till heating kicked in, yes there are bits that have seen better days but undertaking any work in a listed building is not a quick or simple job. So if you want all mod cons and square edges this may not be for you. If you love rustic charm, character and the most fabulous setting anywhere then don’t hesitate y to book. The owners and Susan the housekeeper were lovely and sorted a couple issues out for us with no fuss or quibble. The woodlands around are great and if you have dogs they will love it. There is also a little resident flock of Guinea Fowl which we have never come across before and they are such charming birds and very quirky. Bellingham is a great village with really really good food and the residents are genuinely nice and friendly. Nothing to not like. ❤️

A nice property, but some issues that could be easily addressed.

The unusual room layout means that light from the kitchen floods in to the Vault bedroom due to a high window on the shared wall. Not good if you go to bed before others. Blackout blinds would help. The vault door itself lets through a surprising amount of sound, some carefully placed insulation would help here. The initial impression is of a decent level of cleanliness, but if you pull out a bedside unit to retrieve a dropped ring as I did this level does not extend far. This issue was apparent elsewhere in the house, a deep clean is needed. The dining chairs are in a poor condition, basically starting to fall apart. This needs attention, for safety reasons if nothing else. Although it didn't impact us, the radiators in the living room urgently need securing. The wall brackets for them have been incorrectly fitted and they would come away from the wall easily.

The listing was very accurate in most respects but failed to add that there was a tumble dryer, which was great bonus.

The cottage was lovely, comfortable and clean and the welcome pack of a cake, milk and wine was a real treat. There were fresh flowers in the kitchen and living room and the views were glorious. The pretty garden highlight was a path up to an old railway bridge and a short walk to a little spinney with a bench overlooking the Rede valley. Bellingham was a short drive away, handy for shopping, a post office and a cash machine at the Co-Op. It is a twenty minute drive to Kielder and about an hour to the coast, so ideal for getting about. There is a riverside walk if you have dogs, as we do, but otherwise it is not ideal due to the narrow road outside which leads to Bellingham. You need to listen out for oncoming traffic when crossing. That was the only downside. Thoroughly recommend this cottage and would go again.

The cottage was beautifully appointed, comfortable and felt immediately very welcoming (there were also teas, coffee, milk, cake and a bottle of fizz awaiting us on arrival) with everything we needed for the three of us to have a very relaxing holiday.

The garden was interesting to explore, on several levels, with it's own bridge over a disused railway leading from the back garden to a little wooded area, places to sit and admire the views from the front garden, and you could walk in the adjacent fields from the cottage and across the road down to the river. The owners left great information about the local area, saying that they lived just a short distance away if we needed anything, which we didn't as from our point of view they had pretty much thought of everything! The village just a mile away was very convenient for shopping with a small supermarket, bakers, cafes, takeaway etc and the location we found to be generally excellent as a base to explore, with plenty to do within easy reach - we would certainly like to return, both to the area and the cottage.
