What our customers say about their holidays

    • David - Verified booking

The accommodation had both pros and cons.

The pros. The beds were all very comfortable. The downstairs en-suite shower was spacious and powerful. The location was very handy for the local pubs and village shop. The kitchen was adequately provisioned and the welcome pack was very good and appreciated. The provision of wood for the wood burner was generous. The cons. The place did not do justice to its photographs. It was in truth rather shabby and tired. The place was in need of decorating. The curtains and blinds were quite scruffy and difficult to operate. A lot of the light bulbs had failed throughout the property. The cooker hob light and extractor fan were not working. The sink was badly discoloured and the worktops and kitchen unit fronts stained. For some reason the property had a lot of flies and the window sills had a lot of dead ones. On our first night the central heating boiler, WiFi router and a number of power sockets failed because of an electrical problem. This was sorted out by the owner who, although on holiday himself, got someone round quickly to sort out. The other issue with the electrics was a constant hum from the main ceiling light in the living room that was very off putting. Because the standard lamp in the living room also didn’t work the only light in the evening was from the spotlight in the kitchen and some very dull wall lights. The outside parking was adequate for 2 vehicles at a push but no way for the three advertised. Finally, we could find very few or any instructions regarding any of the appliances or white goods. For the money paid the property would have been worth it if it’s standard was as it appears in the photographs on your website and the issues outlined hadn’t been present. As it was we were disappointed and unlikely to rebook this particular property. This is a property in need of some TLC after which it would be excellent.

Cottage was very nice and welcome pack was one of the best we have encountered.

The owner was very nice. What was very important to us at time of booking was a peaceful location and secluded garden to enjoy. Following an earlier review from one of your customers about undisclosed building works going on Sykes sent an email warning that there were some building works going on and to contact them if I had concerns. I did have concerns about any building works and was considering cancelling the booking. I contacted Sykes and they said they would find out more about what the building works were and they would get back to me. They didn't !. I therefore contacted them and they said they had checked with the owner and that the building works were minimal and down the road. On arrival at the property we found that a large house was being built right next to the cottage boundary with extensive scaffolding and works being carried out at the gable end overlooking the cottages garden which meant the builders could look straight down into the garden of the cottage with no privacy. The builders commenced work at 8 am during the weekdays with associated machinery noise. It was far from the peaceful holiday we had been seeking and most disappointed as we felt as we had been misled and we would have certainly have cancelled the booking if we had known how near the building work was to the cottage and lack of privacy.

We had a lovely relaxing holiday in February at The Coach House, and could not fault the accommodation.

The house was warm and welcoming and very comfortable, and we were amazed at the substantial welcome pack! The garden was perfect for our labrador - safe to let her mooch about on her own.The kitchen was pretty well equipped with everything we needed (though i admit we were more reheating rather than actually cooking) including a medium sized insulated cafetiere in which to brew some of the local Berwick roast coffee. Our host popped by a couple of times to check all was well and advised us on dog friendly beaches and eating out. Lowick is a great little village with two dog-friendly pubs and a well stocked shop with lovely fresh baked products, savouries and sweet. Very central and nowhere seemed very far away. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The only word of warning would be that February is before a lot of the local attractions open eg Alnwick Castle, so if you plan to go somewhere specific, check opening dates! We had a perfect week of relaxation and pottering around the area, and this whole holiday suited our 3 generations of ladies (and Lilly the dog!) perfectly. Thank you.

The Coach House was perfect for our stay.

My elderly parents were perfectly accommodated in the downstairs bedroom with en-suite. The layout of the downstairs area was perfect for us as we could decide wether to sit and watch TV, play games at the table or sit reading or chatting in the sunny entrance hall ‘sun room’. We chuckled about getting my elderly father on a ladder to clear the few cobwebs from the very top of the stove-pipe in the double height living area .. he’d have given it a go ( and we’d then we’d probably be reviewing A&E ,too!). The upstairs rooms were spacious and light with fabulous views. The Juliette balcony doors didn’t open - so it was a little hot as we were blessed with superb weather. Lowick is perfectly placed for Northumberland’s tourist attractions, ccastles, and beaches - and the border of Scotland is easily reached (within 20mins) for more activity ideas. The garden was lovely and the patio is a sun trap. Plenty of off street parking for at leas three cars. All in all, a fabulous find!

We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children and we had a wonderful stay in the coach house.

It was perfect for us and Russell was excellent at communicating with us. They live next door and assured us that if we needed anything, to pop round and tell them. We stayed the week of storms Dudley and Eunice! But the coach house stayed lovely and warm with the wood burner being a real focal point in the lovely double height sitting area. There was always loads of hot water for piping hot baths and showers which we really appreciated after a day out and about. The pub across the road ( The Black Bull inn) is wonderful with fab food. To sum everything up….. the coach house is in a beautiful part of England, and has everything you need for a holiday. The owners left a very well stocked welcome pack full of locally sourced products and there was a big bunch of daffodils to welcome us too. We would love to return one day!
