This is a beautiful propery with spacious rooms.
It is tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well equiped and we cooked several meals in the large kitchen. The owners left a lovely bunch of flowers to welcome us to Lower Culvermead. There is plenty of hot water. There is a small enclosed courtyard garden which our pet enjoyed. The cottage is sited in a quiet location very close to Tavistock, which is our favourite side of the moor. So that was brilliant! Our visit was in October and we noted that the central heating and bathroom towel rail is controlled by the owner, so you cannot just put it on if you feel chilly, or showering outside of the programmed settings. The owners advise that you text them if you wish the heating to be put on outside of its usual settings. During our stay the heating was on for 2hrs in the morning and 4hrs in the evening. The range was not in use. We thought that the range would make the property really warm during the winter months. There were no instructions on how to use it and it looked as though it had not been used for a long time. There were a couple of oil filled radiators for use if you felt chilly. We managed fine, as the central heating once on, was very warming. Our preference is to be able to control the heating, especially if you holiday during colder months. Although in the summer this would not be a consideration. We missed not having a brush and dustpan to easily sweep up crumbs etc from the kitchen, rather than having to use the vacuum. We enjoyed our stay and Rupert was very friendly and accommodating.

This was our second time in Heron Cottage.
We enjoyed our stay just as much as the first. The cottage is very cosy, spotlessly clean from top to bottom, and it enjoys a central position in the village. Everything you could possibly need was on hand in the fully equipped kitchen. Also lots of DVDs for both adults and children (DVD player provided) in the cottage and linked into the new HDTV. WiFi is also provided, as was a number of board games and books to keep everyone occupied. All amenities are within a short walking distance. Including two pubs, fifty yards in either direction. We ate most nights at The Kingfisher where the food was great and the portions big. Lots of fresh locally caught sea food was on the 'Specials' menu. Best to book beforehand especially on weekends. Take a walk around the village where you'll find many interesting old streets with lots of history. We found everyone we met to be very friendly and always ready to have a chat. We would definitely recommend Heron Cottage. It's a great place to stay, as is the village of Coltyon, as a base to explore the wider region. We will definitely be back and will now be looking out for dates in 2025 to return.

Iâve never left a review before, but Iâve never felt like I needed too.
This was one of the dirtiest places I have stayed in a long time! I took photos upon arrival and sent them straight over because it was unacceptable, animal hair all over the bed, pillows, throws; tables still having stains on from whomever stayed before us. It looked like because it was just after Christmas Day that the owners forgot to âfullyâ clean and so we had to do it upon arrival after a 6 hour drive. The bedding had hair all inside so that had to be washed before we could even sleep, there was also a very strange smell in the en-suite which we couldnât debunk which lasted the whole stay. The beautiful flowers people spoke about in the reviews were half dead when we arrived, and it felt like no care was given before our stay. The place is also extremely dusty and needs a deep clean! Itâs such a shame because Iâm sure the place could be amazing if the thought was there for everyoneâs stay.

We have just spent a glorious week at Lower Culvermead, a property that dates back to the 1400's.
Set in rural Devon countryside it is an escapists dream, no planes, no over-bearing road noise, just perfect peace. We took our dog, Fergus, who took full advantage of the field, permitted access with the booking The property itself is capacious consisting of large lounge, well-fitted kitchen , a beautiful bedroom with a good sized en-suite. The decor of the whole property is of a high standard. Our feeling was of a trip back in time with all the luxury of modern conveniences. Our favourite part of the property was the secluded courtyard, which is a real sun-trap in the afternoon. The garden room is cool and comfortable, a great place to sit and read. The owners, Claire and Ru are friendly and approachable, they have created a wonderful holiday let, situated off the beaten track, nevertheless it is a property well worth the visit. We are already making plans to return

We had a lovely stay at Lower Culvermede, thank you.
The rooms were well proportioned and the decoration was modern in a historic setting. We have ordered the same duvet for our own bed earlier today. The property had everything we needed for the week with the added bonus of the field opposite to throw a ball for our dog. The weather was changeable so we didnât make use of the private courtyard, but I imagine it would be good for breakfast. The cottage is well placed to visit various places in Devon and Cornwall. There were lots of leaflets and we particularly enjoyed Buckfast Abbey, walks on Dartmoor, dog friendly beaches, Boscastle harbour (we visited Tintagel Castle previously), and we had a good lunch at Royal Williamâs Yard. Tavistock has a few dog friendly cafes and was very handy for shops. Next time I visit I hope to visit all the lovely churches in the area.
