What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sue - Verified booking

We've visited several times before and absolutely love Watersplash - it's a perfect retreat with bags of character even when the weather lets us down, and the location is idyllic.

But there were issues on this occasion. We'd complained before about the razor sharp edges on the drawer handles especially in the kitchen after slicing my finger on one last year, but no-one has done anything about it. The quality of washing up by previous occupants was poor - dirty saucepans (I had to rush out to buy scouring pads) and food stuck to cutlery and plates and there was an unpleasant smell in the kitchen which took days to clear. The bin bags had all bio-degraded so we had an issue putting out the rubbish. The garden furniture, which was broken and dangerous last year, has been removed but not replaced. So no chance of breakfast at the garden table. The decking was terribly slippery when it rained and the garden needs a tidy up. We love the cottage and feel very sad when standards start to slip. It's not at all cheap (especially as only 2 of us) and I stress that these are small issues but do need attention. We don't want to complain when we're on holiday - it sours something we've been looking forward to for so long but hope that polite feedback will now be acted on. If photos show garden furniture it should be available, even in March. On the plus side, cleaning was generally to a high standard - we met the cleaner and she was delightful - a credit to the company. The bedroom is super-comfortable and the heating (in a very cold wet week) was blissfully reliable. So, in spite of a few gripes, a great little place to stay.

On arrival we were met with a damp smell in the living room, settee felt damp, also didn’t look the cleanest or comfiest and arm covers were dirty.

You could see the damp in the wall leading to the kitchen. It’s a good job weather was beautiful and we spent most of our time out, the living room furniture didn’t really cater for 4 people to sit in comfort!. The kitchen was in need of a face lift, dishwasher was dirty and rusty, we had to wash everything before we could use it. The garden needed attention with some dog poo left behind. We found cobwebs on the kitchen walls above the cooker and between the dresser and cupboard. The blind in one of the bedrooms had actually come down and was left on the windowsill, Lyme Bay offered to come and put it back up but as we were there for only 3 days we had our time planned and didn’t want to have to wait in for them to do it. Upstairs was acceptable our double bedroom had a nice comfy bed although I’m not sure if the bedding was supposed to be white as they looked discoloured. The photos were misleading on the website as the property looks pristine in them, though in reality this isn’t the case, website definitely needs updating. Disappointed that we didn’t receive a call back from Lyme Bay management after our concerns had been highlighted, we have booked numerous times with this company and never had a problem before.

My wife and I stayed at Hiilview Bungalow some eleven years ago and compared to that visit we were very disappointed.

We recently found Hillview a very bare place with lots of empty cupboards and no ornaments to make the bungalow feel more like a home. To be a little more specific about some of the more negative points relating to our visit, in no particular order: The bell push at the side of the front door had been removed which left two bare wires sticking out. We found the the television most difficult to operate. No manual containing useful information on the bungalow was available. The toilet seat needed fixing and moved every time it was sat on. The radiator in the toilet needed a good clean. The oven needed a good clean. More than one curtain was hanging down at it's end where it had come off the track. On the plus side, when I contacted the owner about the television he did come to the bungalow to fix it very quickly. He also brought a folder with him containing useful information about the bungalow. Hive Close is a pleasant cul-de-sac which is nicely located close to Hive Beach.

It was very disappointing that there was no information folder, meaning we had to contact the number provided to gain information relevant to a) the WIFI password and then b) access to garage and location of freezer.

There were no instruction manuals for any other appliances including the Freesat TV and the gas fire. We had no idea regarding refuse and recycling collections days consequently the refuse bin was already nearly full on arrival and even fuller when we left. Cleaning materials were not provided e.g for mopping the floor etc The rotary line was not in situ Garden furniture was not out for use. The bungalow smelled very musty A welcome pack of milk etc would have been appreciated. No information provided re where to leave used bedlinen Scarcity of electrical sockets to allow use of bedside lamps..providing an extension lead in the double bedded room was hardly appropriate. Photos need to be updated as the lounge area furniture was not as shown. Overall this is very basic accommodation The side gate needs to be more secure to prevent dogs escaping

Beds comfy and overall house was clean and tidy.

A good location to walk down into Weymouth. Not so good were the following. The two beige chairs in the lounge were too big, low, soft and uncomfy, need replacing. Bin under sink was found smelly and a bit dirty. Four light bulbs in the lounge were broken and the clock in the kitchen stopped working on Wednesday morning. The shower screens, bathroom titles and ceiling needs a good deep clean as black mold around. No anti slip mat for the slippery shower tray. Main things was heating we found was turned off at the boiler. Noisy neighbours, to the left of house from the front, disruptive one night from 1am to 2.30am, then an ambulance was called. Obviously the neighbour situation is beyond owners control but sadly it would put us off using Rockpools holiday house again.
